NCAA Bowl/Playoff season discussion

This time of year is so bittersweet. Great college match-ups, big games every week, the bowl/playoff situations are working out, conference championships are upon us.........but only one more month of football.

Huge game tonight for Oregon, against a dangerous opponent, no matter what Vegas says. I am confident they can handle their business though. If so, they are in the Playoff. Assuming no huge upsets, it'll probably be them and TCU. I think they match up well with TCU, and then it would likely be off to the Championship game with Alabama. Alabama could be tough, but if the Ducks are going to get it done any year, this is the one. Here's hoping.

Aside from that, lots of interesting stuff going on at season's end. Will FSU really finish another undefeated season? Puke. Can't stand Winston or Jimbo. Hopefully Georgia Tech can upset them tomorrow.

Mike Riley leaving his hometown to go to Nebraska. He seems like a good dude, but I'm not sure that is a great fit, or that the expectations are realistic in Lincoln. We'll see. Also lots of Michigan coach discussion. Another program with a great history but years of disappointment lately.

What story lines have your interest? How is your team doing? Who are you rooting for if your team isn't in the thick of it?

Well, so far so good for the Ducks. Big win last night, no doubt they are in the 4-team playoff.

I'd be absolutely thrilled if Bama lost today (doubtful). But at the end of the day all the Ducks have to do is win two more games.

It's Oregon... the always find a way to snatch defeat out of the jaws of victory. Used to happen anytime they were on national TV. My guess is they don't show up in the playoff, least not at the same level they've been playing.

I hope Bama gets toasted too but if I had to put my money on it...

I'm guessing it'll be Alabama, Oregon, Ohio State, and FSU, in that order.

Maybe flip-flop Ohio State and FSU. But I think the committee will like it that way, so they can put both the teams that are geographically in the southeast in the bowl that is held in the southeast (New Orleans). This would also put Oregon in the west coast bowl, and Ohio State should travel well.

I say Ohio State jumps based on a massive win against a very good Wisconsin team, and TCU drop based on the shared conf champ with Baylor plus no Championship Game in the Big 12.

FSU gets destroyed by Bama, and Oregon and Bama go to the Championship game. My $.02.

Tcu's win wasnt nearly as impressive as the other teams. I agree with the teams,
    1. Alabama ( my pick to win it all espically since i am a sec fan. Uga)
    2 . fsu
    3 oregon
    4. Ohio state.

On a side note, with the way this year has turned out, They might want to consider making it 6 teams

Well, the teams are what we thought.

Oregon and FSU in the Rose Bowl. Ohio State and Bama in the Sugar Bowl.

I think both will be fairly lopsided games. I'm guessing it'll be Oregon and Bama in the Championship game, though I'd love if Ohio State could find a way to win the Sugar Bowl.

They are definitely the favorite. I'd like to see them and Oregon play.

As much as I dislike Oregon and will never cheer them on, I do like Marcus Mariota and am hoping he takes home the Heisman. He strikes me as a classy dude.

I agree. When the worst thing that comes out after three years of college, all of it in the spotlight as the star QB of a major football power, is that you got a speeding ticket and the cop says you were super respectful, that's pretty good. Especially in this day and age where everything is recorded and tweeted. I'm not sure exactly how his game will translate to the NFL, but I'm hopeful that it does. Even though most of the running QBs end up as a disappointment, I think he's more in the style of Russell Wilson where he actually is trying to pass first, and he's gotten way better about protecting his body and/or sliding instead of getting blown up when he does run. We'll see, hopefully there are two more games to enjoy with him in a Ducks' jersey. :)

Are there enough NCAAF fans here to do a Bowl Pick Em contest?

If 6+ people are interested, I could set one up.

I'm impressed they snared someone from Wisconsin. Though the Big Ten has been down recently, Wisconsin would seem to be more of an elite program than Oregon State. And Anderson has had Wisconsin competitive, so someone at Oregon State must've shown they were serious about football to get him to move.
