If you created the problem, it's bad form to throw your hands up halfway through fixing it and say you've already tried hard enough to clean up the mess now someone else should finish.

R hurts everyone, unfortunately my department decided they're abandoning SPSS/Stata in favor of R despite the fact even the professors in charge of teaching R don't know how to use it completely.

    Fucking hell, people!

If you know that my MIL shit all over her clothes, would it kill you to attach a note to the bag containig her dirty laundry? I damn near gagged when I opened the bag this afternoon.

And to make matters worse she has a CDIF infection, which makes her shit seriously stink even more. Mentioniong that, shouldn't we have received some kind of warning & precautionary instructions for doing her laundry since the infection is basically spread through contact with feces?

I am very pissed-off about this.

Judging from the smell, C.diff will rot your large intestines.

Seriously, I'm going to bitch long & loud at the rehab facility. This is NOT something that my wife or I want to "catch." IMO we definately should've received a warning and some instructions. In fact, under the circumstances, I feel that the the facility should've dealt with her laundry.

I'm about to wash my MIL's clothes a second time. If they don't come clean, I'm throwing them away. I'm already being hypercautious dealing with the bags that contained the clothes.

    Did I mention that I'm seriously pissed-off?

I don't blame you one bit.
They should of at least rinsed them out and warned you.

    Give em hell.

They rinsed the clothes, but didn't give us any warning about dealing with them. We didn't even know she had a contagious infection until one of the physical therapist--not one of the nurses--told us. And when I met with the case manager, she didn't provide any warnings. All of this took place before they put the warning sign on her door, which took them 2-3 days.

I'm also going to have some serious questions for the people at the assisted living facility where she lives. If her bowel movements were this fucking nasty, someone should've immediately known that something was majorly wrong.

Maybe after I eat some dinner and have a smoke I'll calm down. A few of vodka & diet tonic waters would be nice, but that would be a really stupid thing for me to do.

Well, that completely explains her behavior and the issues she was having.
Which clearly makes the point of why the facility didn't realize that might have been the issue from the beginning or at the very least a hint.

You're right though, get some dinner and maybe even a nap before you deal with them.
It's always better to have your cool when dealing with bureaucracies.

I spent almost 2 hours in the car today just commuting, and another 1.5 hours of my day in meetings.

    Ugh.

I caught it in college, @ChrisNoyb... 20lbs, 6 weeks of oral vancomyacin, and 21 days of diflucan later, I never looked at my roommates the same. I worked with kids who had Swamp Ass years later (and years ago) and I can identify the smell immediately. You may want to talk to the health department if anything doesn't change. Florida is required to report cases after a certain number... At least they used to.

Looks like my Tivo has died.
I've got a lot of shows on there including the past two Walking Deads that I haven't watched yet.
So now I have to call the cable company and get a box from them that I will have to pay for every month, like I don't pay them an arm and a leg every month already.

So according to this semester's professor the regression model our methods class teaches (and the stock behavior of R) doesn't make sense and there's no reason to ever use it, which is a problem since we'd already agreed I was going to use that model for my final paper. Of course that got pre-empted by R's refusal to run linear models with a factor dependent variable, despite the professor's assurances people bend the rules of OLS and do that all the time. Then on top of all of that the normal function for Ordered Logit (which our methods class and text don't cover at all) doesn't work for weighted survey data and the variant that does has no documentation anywhere, doesn't work with the pseudo r-squared functions, and doesn't seem to be working right. I'm lucky it gave enough information that I could find code online to calculate P values.

TLDR: My department switched to R but nobody knows how to use it, our methods class doesn't cover even some of the most basic shit we need to know like fixing reverse coded variables, and I'm probably going to fail a class because of this fuckery. I know it's worth exactly dick but I'll be turning in a formal recommendation to immediately switch back to SPSS or STATA because like me when I was born R ain't fuckin done cooking yet.

Yesterday my wife received a call from the director of the rehab facility (as I previously mentioned she knows him personally, & he had given her his private cell phone #). This' is unusual in that he is giving my MILs case his direct attention. He wants my wife to come in to see her mom working during therapy. My feeling is he is going to tell my wife that her mom is past the point of full recovery.

This is something we already know. I'm already thinking of speaking with a social worker at the facility about helping find a full care nursing home for my MIL. Chances are good the assisted living facility won't be able to take her back because of they can't provide the level of skilled nursing that she'll need (some snideness based on what we went through with my FIL--they only want easy-to-handle residents).

Here's the usual procedure under Medicare guidelines, we went through this twice with my FIL. I might not have the number of days exactly correct:
Patient is released from the regular hospital to a rehab hospital/center (where is my MIL is now) for 21 days of care.
Patient then goes to another facility for 14 days for more rehab. I've never quite understood this step.
Patient then goes to a facility for 7 days of skilled nursing.

I'm now considering taking my complaint re the lack of instructions for dealing with C.diff directly to him. With the understanding that I'm not trying to get any particular persons in trouble, but to let him know that they need to take a look at their procedures for instructing family members. Yes, I've calmed now a bit from yesterday.
