I need to write up unit plans for two different classes. Technically, I already have one written, but it's set for 65 minute periods, not 50 minute periods, and I need to revise that. It shouldn't be too difficult, but because it's a task that is unpleasant administrative work, totally boring, and should only take about 15 minutes, I am going to procrastinate as if my life depended on it...and go do all the other things that need to be done.

    Urgh.

It's freezing outside, I'm pretty sure that I have a sinus infection, and my damn car is dead in my garage....

....other than that, it's been a fine day......

Moment of Geek Science: Don't worry, you won't get the flu from the shot.

When you're fighting off a bug like the flu, many of the symptoms you have are not coming from the bug. They come from your body's immune response to the bug. So, in some cases, people will get mild flu-like symptoms about a week or so after the shot. It's not harmful and it will pass.

I once had a doctor insist during an exam that I had the flu, even though I felt fine. It was because I showed some of the physical symptoms, but I didn't have the bug. And, yes, it was around a week or so after I got the shot, too.

Hang in there @RedSneaker. Be well.

Missed a chance to work today, but I feel like my body is deciding whether to be sick or well, so *shrug*.

  4. im sick and fucking tired of the way drug users of any sort are viewed by the general population. theyre not criminals(by choice), most are not harming or bothering anyone but themselves, its really not as bad for you as its made out to be, id say most hard drugs are safer/healthier for your body than alcohol(which for some god forsaken reason is legal, when during prohibition opiates were available to everyone right out of a catalogue while alcohol forbidden), drugs expand your mind and perception(especially psychedelics), they give you an immense amount of pleasure and enjoyment while still being more in control of yourself than when in a drunken stupor. like anything else, of course drugs should be treated with respect and not abused and taken advantage of, but with a little self control, in my opinion, drugs can be an extremely beneficial and life enhancing part of those who choose to partake. happy highs my friends!

Codeine, IIRC, was available in many forms as an OTC drug into the early '60s (I'd need to research the exact timeline). I have an aunt who abused it, legally, until it was declared a controlled substance.

  6. codeine is still legal and over the counter in Canada and other countries. I just don't believe that our government or any government who claims to be a free country should be able to legislate what I do to or choose to put in my body, as long as im not hurting or bothering someone else. even suicide shouldn't be able to be legislated. I was born with free will, my body and mind are my possessions and I should not be able to be told what I can or cannot do to my body or mind. freedom has been regulated and legislated in this country, and now we have to thin harder about what we cannot do instead of enjoying the things we can do. America needs a cleansing and a change in consciousness. we are not free, just willing slaves.

I should've specified the US, I sometimes forget that the net is international.

Maybe the legal codiene explains why many Canadians are so nice (excluding a certain editor/martial arts enthusiast/frustrated poet :D).

  8. well they have one more freedom than we do so they might as well smile while they can (but im sure where they get one freedom we don't, they have one taken from them that we have. or maybe its not equal, maybe our government really is as wrong and power thirsty as I fear.) no matter where at on the earth no ones body or mind should be legislated, and theyre covertly and effectively do just that, and the cattle are more willing than ever to be sent to market with a fake smile on there face.

    It never fails.

    Seriously.

Whenever my wife gets a break at work (spring break, TG, Christmas, etc.) one of her parents winds up in the hospital. Her father passed away in July (RIP), but now it's her mom.

Details in the Not so pointless announcements thread.

I have a to-do list a mile long, zero motivation, and little energy. Fever's gone, but I feel like it sapped everything I had left in reserve.

We had a week—a full week. Now the pressure is on me to deal with this last-minute bullshit regarding things beyond my control.

    This isn't a new story.

Moreover, these reports aren't stopping! Most months, I get a report every three or four days. This month? Every two. This "oh, this should be an easy week—finally!" has turned into a big pain in the ass. The "big deadline" is tomorrow, and I'm fucking ready to be done. At least I now have evenings and weekends off (mostly).

I just want to clean my home. I just want my home back so I can rest.

I'm always impressed by how so many things can get mangled up when one thing takes too long.
