I'm replying to charlatan, take it up with him, I don't have a delorean. Interesting how even when I'm strictly following feminist theories you're still not satisfied.

    Uh uh.

I'm pretty sure that I'm not the only one who sees where you're trying to take this.

Please continue. I'd be quite happy to have you prove me wrong.

Guys, this thread was intended to be from the perspective of guys harassing females, as is depicted in the video.

While I truly appreciate that it is not the only type of harassment by a long shot, my main goal was to get a female perspective in the responses, which I clearly stated in the OP.

I'd appreciate it if we could keep this thread along those lines and not divert it elsewhere.

If others have experience with a different type of harassment and would like to share, perhaps that could be taken to another thread instead of derailing mine.

    Please and thank you.

Sorry? Where did I suggest this is "special and extraordinary"? Where did I suggest that she "needs to be treated like spun glass"?

I made a simple statement of fact. I updated the story.

I know you like to do this sort of thing, but please don't make assumptions about my intentions.

And now at any point you can say "See? Shadowex3 proved me right" even if I'm responding to someone else, just like you're already poopooing on me for responding to something Charlatan brought up.

I direct you to Charlatan's post about making assumptions about people's intentions, I'll make a more friendly assumption that he isn't being disingenuous and would apply his standards to you as well:

And I made a simple application of theory and commented on a double standard that is used against women, staying on the subject of women's experiences from the perspective of women as victims as viewed through the lens of feminist theory. I really don't know what will satisfy you at this point.

I know you (and Chris) like to do this sort of thing, but please don't make assumptions about my intentions.

You also clearly asked "guys feel free to chime in your perspective" and then asked if anyone had been harassed in the street. I'm sorry if I misunderstood that as asking guys to chime in with their experiences being harassed but it seemed really straightforwards.

I'll go back and delete that from my post if you want, but I'll have to ask you to edit your OP to clarify what you do mean.

    Fine.

I think it was clear what I meant, but I edited it even further. So go ahead and delete those posts as offered. Thanks.

This need not devolve into your usual "I know you are but what am I" method of "discussion".

I made no assumption about what your post was saying. I simply pointed out that you were implying about me.

All I am asking is that you state *your* intentions clearly and don't imply that *I* am suggesting something else.

If I am not clear, ask me to clarify. Please don't put words in my mouth. I will endeavour to do the same. Thanks.

Then allow me to make the first step here, I didn't intend to say you WERE holding those views, I just quoted your post because it was bringing the subject up and relevant to the double standard where only the "right" women are given the almost hyperbolic sympathy and outrage treatment. If anything it reminds me of how only the "right" victims of assault are given sympathy while the rest are accused of "asking for it" in some way.

Watching the the video the worst offenders were the minorities, by far. Black men are the only ones to do something like that to my wife while we were in Chicago, and it didn't matter if I was with her.

Just want to point out that if the woman was walking through neighborhoods occupied primarily by minorities, then it should be expected that the harassers would be mostly minorities and the apparent prevalence of minorities in the video would be a result of where the woman walked, rather than any minority-specific propensity for harassment. A stroll down Wall Street might yield results of a different hue. Also that the video was edited down from 10 hours by someone who may or may not be aware of their own cultural biases. Maybe a lot of white people ended up on the cutting room floor.

In other words, the video doesn't necessarily serve as good evidence for a "fukin minorities"-type statement.

Given historical context, it seems totally weird to me to believe that nonWhite people disrespect women more than white people.
