Worst of the Worst - Worldwide

What is the worst of the worst that is happening in the world right now?
    Tell me about...
    Genocides
    Devastating Wars
    Famines
    Human rights violations
    Crimes against humanity
    Dictatorships gone wrong
    and so on.

Break it to me now. Just throw it all here. Make my mind blown every morning as I look at this thread. Make me cry for the world.

    --------------------------------------------------
I have been intentionally avoiding the news for the past couple of months because I'm afraid to hear these stories. But recently they've been showing up in conversations and I admit I'm just too far out of the loop. This thread exists so I can see it all right here when I'm emotionally prepared to deal with the heart-ache. Thank you in advance for contributing to this thread.

Ebola outbreak has expanded to Nigeria...officially.

    Who knows where unofficially...

When I saw this story on the evening news, I cried. But I cry at the evening news a lot these days. Sometimes even the heartfelt story that NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams likes to close out with is not enough to cheer me, and I have to watch cat videos. What people do to each other is far worse than what Mother Nature attempts to do to us. That said, my thoughts are with the people of Hawaii today as they weather the storm there.

The ceasefire in Gaza is over.

I fully expect to cry some more tonight.

While this is about the most horrible thing I can imagine, I am concerned this is US Psyops.

I know this sounds like a conspiracy theory, but we've been down this path before to sell Gulf War 1 to the US public.

Keeping on the same topic as before.

And another question...on the Middle East battles, specifically ISIS gains.
Who the hell is TRAINING these guys on the equipment they are capturing???
It's one thing to capture it.
It's another to learn how to use it...and do it so fast.
    "Someone" is training them.

I wonder if it's the Russians & Putin? Doing the same thing the US did to them originally in Afghanistan.
It would make sense...they have the knowledge.
And it would distract the US, help leverage Russia oil prices and need...and allow Putin to get back at the US for their "pushy" ways in his business.

But no matter who, this is exaggerating and expediting the extremists efforts and gains.
Making the Middle East more unstable and unpredictable...much less the death & pain of many.

    Robin Williams is dead.
But that's nowhere near as sad to me as the Christian genocide.

Sorry, RW is closer to my worldview...intellectually I get what you're saying...but still.
Near and dear to my past years and how I define myself. Sincerely, he was a role model for me.
One is someone I grew up connecting with...the other is a far-away concept...no matter how big.

Funny how it's the little things that hit you...but other things, they're just a bit too difficult to grasp in your emotions.
No wonder humans have a hard time with detachment.
Perhaps the world would be a better place if we could connect better with the disconnected.

Maybe it will hit me later.
When I heard about the genocide, I couldn't stop crying.
My thoughts when I heard of Mr. William's death: "What a shame. His family must really be hurting right now. He was a talented man. He left an incredible legacy with his films. I wonder if I know anyone who is depressed and needs a little outpouring of love."

To add to the increasing and accelerating Ebola outbreak.

This is human misery at its worst.
    Current 5000+ cases...2600+ deaths...and growing.
Conservative estimates are projecting 20,000+ cases with a 65% mortality rate.
    • An additional and unrelated outbreak is now in the Congo.
    • Nigeria is growing...now where Sierra Leone was in May...and we saw where that went.
    • Senegal has now has cases...no deaths, yet (then again, Nigeria was that way too at the start)
    • This given figures are likely unreported. (wiki has some good info and fairly up to date - Link)
    • Many locations & citizens don't listen or trust the helpers...govt or medical or otherwise...
And to add to last note...they are starting to attack & kill those trying to help.
Eight dead in attack on Ebola team in Guinea. ‘Killed in cold blood.’

Our Texas politicians, the majority of them attorneys (FWTW), can't even properly write a law banning upskirt photos. Some committee will come up with a law worded in a way that will hold up under legal scrutiny, but they should've gotten it right the first time.

Apparantly if you're out in public there is no difference between someone snapping your photo in general, and someone placing a camera up yout skirt to get a photo. If I understand the law correctly, you can't even beat the shit out of the pervert because they have the legal right to take the photo!

And as a bonus...this will likely distract the govt, media, etc... attention and effort from
    • Putin's aggressions
    • ISIL aggressions
    • North Korea's leader's status (and potential aggression)
    • Ebola efforts elsewhere
    • And other random fun & games...
I wonder what the cascading affects will be??
Fiscal, political, military, policy, health and otherwise...

Infant and toddler victims of human trafficking.
Why are the children in the arms of beggars sleeping?
    Why aren't they playing?
Why will the same beggar who is there for years always have a child in their arms that is about the same age?
The truth behind this is horrific reality.

You know it's sad, I've read plenty of books about the beggars in past.
How the kids were treated, how the bosses would break their limbs to make them appear more pathetic.
There's a tendency to think that's over and done with, even when you know it's not.

    I'm depressed now.

Careful on the stealing the child plan.
They often have look outs or pay the police for protection.
I so wouldn't want you to get hurt because of your kindness.
    Maybe bring @Plan9 with you.

Yeah... I sincerely doubt that I would have the guts to make it happen. But I would be tempted to get close and ask to hold the baby and make sure it's breathing.
