I know a handful of us do some lifting in the gym.. as a motivational comparison to real life, someone developed this little app to determine what animal you can lift. I can regularly lift a baby giraffe, bitches!

What Animal Do You Even Lift?

How about you? Do you find this information useful at all in daily life?

I'm of the opinion that using your gym-created strength and fitness to do useful things (in my case, farm/lawn work, lifting and jumping with my nephew, climbing things) is always a good thing. I like this comparison, even though I likely won't encounter a baby giraffe up close anytime soon (if ever).

    Same here.
My golden retriever still gets lifted and sits on my lap every evening. Started as a puppy and 11 years later that's still how she thinks of herself.

I'd make the pain in my lower back much worse if I tried to lift our yellow lab (85+ pounds) from the floor.

I don't really like gyms and nothing I lift routinely has numbers on it. I do even lift myself when I do pull ups, and I weigh 85 kilos, which according to that site is equivalent to a black bear. I don't know if that counts though.

I don't lift weights anymore, but now I wonder what animal I could punch out or kick over.

I actually did pretty good the other day on the presses...lifted more than I thought I could after so long a hiatus.
But it's not just muscles that do the trick...your bones come into play too.
And my forearm bones were aching...need to be careful. (physics does not fuck around or forget to work, even if you do)

It will be some time before I get to pressing Manatee level.
    Good job though.

Sorry, I squatted the Manatee. I pressed the baby orca. Supposedly based on my 10 rep max I'm supposed to be able to press the manatee, but I don't have the guts to try. Old bones need even more care.

Yep, and meanwhile we look more and more like the @Baraka_Guru no-neck gentlemen above... ;)

Honestly, I might have wanted to be big when I was younger (25-35)...but now that I'm 46, I'm getting into potential messed-up stages.
The body can only take so much over so long. Heart-attacks are a very real factor.
Now, I don't think I'll have one while working out...but if I get big, the heart doesn't give a flying hoot, there's just more to pump against.
    Much less my joints too.

I'm actually trying to do a lean workout now instead of a power workout, but sinewy instead of bulky.
I've got the size and bulk already, so no need to try to impress...I just want become streamlined and cut.
Instead of being a 6.2 QB build...I think I'd like a Michael Phelps on the off-season look.

Heh...squatting a Manatee (me too BTW)...sounds like we're tea-bagging it. Oi, bad visual.

In my 40's I don't feel much need anymore to push myself to an extreme. If I'm strong, and uninjured its good. I'll pass on 1RM's.

I don't push as hard as I used to, but oddly the reduction in workload has allowed me to progress, albeit slowly. I certainly listen when my body is telling me to put it down for a while.

I am also leaning down, slowly, and trying to take care of the ticker with cardio, and a better diet.

I started with the slimming so you are stronger than me, and I really don't want to bulk much at this point. I'm feeling that bulking/cutting is just not a good thing for me at this point nor something I want to do lifestyle wise.

Edit: Heh we are probably getting redundant since we covered this in the fitness thread :)
