    Why is it that pretty much every pair of stereo headphones is made with a "left" speaker and a "right" speaker, intended for those ears, but is coyly subtle about letting you know which is which?

    Somewhere on the complex surface of the earpiece is an intentionally tiny "L" or "R", clearly visible only under a magnifying glass, and often done as very slightly raised letters in the exact same color as the surrounding plastic. Or, painted on in such a way that the least little bit of wear obliterates them.

    Moreover, why is my right ear so formed that no in-the-ear speaker or bud I have ever tried will remain in it without falling out and/or causing discomfort?

    Have you ever tried the Koss ones like this? Koss Black Earbuds with In-Line Volume Control | dbdq3418 | Fedtronix Store (U.S.)

    Very few work and are comfortable for me. These work great, and are reasonably priced.

    I don't have those headphones, but rather a pair of Philips that have a similar squishy material that conforms to my ear shape, like an earplug. They came with a whole set of interchangeable earbuds to try on the headphones; the ones I'm speaking of are in the lower right hand corner of the picture.

    One of my personal training clients years ago was from Canada. She worked for the IMF and her husband worked for the CBC. She brought me a bottle of maple syrup once. Totally different. It was so light and clear, golden straw colored, and almost clear. I have never seen it's match. Every syrup after that looks like used paint thinner.

    It's a large high school in the eastern suburbs of Portland, and the second largest high school in the state with approximately 2700 students. Thankfully, it was towards the end of the school year, lots of kids weren't at school due to staggered start times during finals week, and the seniors were already finished.

    As a teacher, I can't even imagine the logistics of after--we do lockdown drills regularly, followed by evacuations, but drills are entirely different from real life, and watching that play out on local television this morning has been a bit surreal.
