    Excuse me for snatching this bit from another thread:

    The Finnish version of a tv-show called 'Have I got News for You' claimed that women with big butts are more intelligent than women with smaller butts. :eek:

    According to their sources (study made in US) this is true and the explanation lies in thighs and butts, which preserve the omega-3 oils, which are good for your brain and wellbeing, while the bad omega-6 gathers around your waist. :mad:

    I recognize myself belonging to the latter group. What should I eat to become smarter? :confused: Nuts?

    Do you dare to compliment women from now on about their smartness or size of their butt?

    Now that you put that thought in my head, I take no responsibility. If I ever meet a female stranger, or new business colleague, and remark "Your ass is nice and big, you must be smart.", it's all on you.

    I'm not sure about the claim regarding butts and waists, but there are benefits to looking into your omega balance.

    In terms of "smarts," I'm pretty sure it matters more that the fats are in your brain, which is rich in fat to begin with. If you have too much omega-6 and not enough omega-3, then inflammation may occur, which can cause cognitive problems.

    Omega-3 acids such as EPA and DHA are now being studied intensively with regard to their effect on brain health (in case you haven't noticed :)). The omega-3 acid ALA (found in plants) is converted from anywhere between 3% and 30% into EPA and DHA, and EPA can convert to DHA as needed.

    They say DHA is beneficial to the brain's structure, while EPA helps with mood. DHA is now found to be an integral ingredient to a growing baby's brain, which is why it's a bit overhyped right now. Breast milk supposedly has quite a bit of DHA in it.

    So if you want something to help your brain (concentration, clarity, focus, etc.), then, yes, omega-3s can help. But it's not a magic pill. It can take weeks or months before anything will happen, and you usually need a minimum daily intake of, say, 200 mg+ of DHA to have an effect.

    Otherwise, eating cold-water fish three times a week will give you plenty of both EPA and DHA.

    Results will vary. And it may also help to reduce foods that may cause inflammation, which is what the omega-6 thing is about.

    Omega-6 plays an role in the body, but getting too much can cause problems. Eating a lot of certain vegetable oils (the bad ones) and certain meats (i.e. not seafood) will certainly give you more omega-6 than you need.

    I tried Piracetam + Choline for a while about two years ago, at the time research was inconclusive as to benefits for healthy individuals, but it showed no side effects (unless you take it without choline, which depletes something, I forget what, and can cause headaches.) I felt like it was helping make me more alert, but I really can't say for sure whether or not it was anything more than the placebo effect. More recent research indicates that it improves verbal memory in healthy college-aged students, although it's all preliminary at this point. It's cheap and harmless, so you might want to try it.
