Yes, that is more than most beginning teachers in the United States make. I think the average with a BA is around 35k.

It sounds as though you don't think that teachers should be paid for the summer holidays. I can speak for my wife, and most of the teachers that I know: They earn and deserve the summer holidays. The hours my wife puts in during the school year more than covers her summer "vacation."

My wife is on annual contract at a private religious school. She has the option of having her annual salary paid over the 9.3 month school year, or over 12 months.

Noteworthy--They can decline to offer her a new contract and don't have to explain a fucking thing. That seriously adds to her stress level. Adding to the stress is the very real possibility that the school might decide to reduce/remove "elective" programs, as many schools have done.

The large school districts around here offer competative starting salaries (because they have to!). A friend was hired by Pearland ISD as a music teacher starting at about $42,000.00. The problem is the starting salaries offered by the ISDs is the bait; the subsequent raises are crap.

With that said, another friend received her masters degree while teaching in Pasadena ISD, which gave her a fat raise. She also knows how to take advantage of PISDs elaborate 'additional pay' policy, i.e. she doesn't do anything that doesn't involve extra pay.

Yeah, my Master's means that my starting salary will be significantly higher; on the other hand, it also means that since Oregon requires teachers to have a Master's that my future school district won't have to pay for me to go back to school.

I booked a 1-hour shiatsu massage for next week, which is a day after one of my major deadlines. I really need it.

Enjoy your time at the massage parlo(u)r :D!
Or (at the risk of ruining my own joke) do they come to you?

Do they also offer you good tea?

I would love a shiatsu followed by chanoyu, but I'm not aware of a place that has both. Hmm....

  9. DaddySquirrel gets rewarded with sex if he gives me a massage. :D

That reminds me...there was a "mishap" with the condom last night. Let's see what happens in the next 40 weeks. ;)

I'm basically batting a thousand when it comes to turning massages into sex.

This is why I handle condoms with surgical attentiveness.

Ok...would like to say I have figured out the Answer to Life, The Universe & Everything.
    And it's NOT 42... ;)

(**I'll put this in American English so you Earthlings can distribute it through your most effective medium, Hollywood)

    The answer IS...

    everything that matters, doesn't matter
    everything that doesn't matter, matters

Or is that the question??? Nope...nope, that IS definitely the answer...I'll throw it down here.

However, I will say this...it is appropriate and ironic...that this been stated in "pointless announcements".
And also, this has been likely noted before...but everyone keeps forgetting it. (BTW, the Earth's gravity also produces a "Somebody Else's Problem" SEP field)
And they didn't copyright it...I have the papers right here. (besides posting it on a board on the Internet makes the copyright implicit...right?)

Now tell me where the funding is for Deep Thought...or even the Earth...I'm not picky.
But I have lots of things I want to buy...thinking this much makes me want material things. (and sex)

Damn!! I forgot the front caps and the periods in the sentence...that makes it meaningless now.
    Where's my editor???
Quick, before someone else copy & pastes it.

I have a Giving a Shit continuum. It inherently skews towards the positive.

Oh, hey, you're trying to get on my nerves. I don't give a shit.
Oh, hey, you did a great job after really struggling to get this work done. That's awesome. I give a shit.

One of the things people often tell me about my chosen career is that they couldn't do it because all teenagers are shitheads (completely untrue observation, btw). Some of them are, in fact, shitheads. How do you deal with the shitheads? Well, I actively close out negative thoughts about students outside of school unless I need to get something off my chest or really problem-solve. If that's the case, after that's done, I pack it away. I try to focus on what the kids do right instead of what they do wrong. Plus, if you're really skewing towards the negative end of the spectrum, the kids KNOW they can get under your skin and annoy you--you give them power over you. As much as I love and miss my students, they don't have power over me in any negative way.

KL = Kuala Lumpur? Whoa, that seems wildly exotic. And apparently not massively obtuse. :)

It always seemed exotic when I lived in Canada, but now it's just another 50 minute flight. It's funny what you get used to.
