    God DAMN that is one fine suit. Wow, I would buy that shit in a hot minute. That suit jacket is amazing, and the vest/waistcoat is super slick too.

    Well, in my personal life, I'm fairly relaxed.
    So the situation determines whether it's Rocker Garage or Casual Yuppie.
    If I need to presentable in the off-hours...it's Casual Yuppie...if I'm on my own, it's Rocker Garage.

    In the office, I want to look authoritative.
    So, it's a suit, with the right cut...I tend to wear those that look decent no matter tie or not.
    And they can go with any shirt and/or slacks/pants.

    Never a button down collar, those don't translate well into power.
    Even a relaxed look needs to project influence. (one of my fav "relaxed" office looks is jeans, white shirt, tan belt and dockers, navy suit coat)

    With my height and build, it cannot stand out too much. I already stand out. (being bald doesn't help either)
    Ties cannot be too apparent either, pattern if any needs to be subtle.
    I also cannot wear the slim look that's the trend in the younger celebs these days.

    Cut needs to be good, decent thickness to cloth, not too thin.
    3 button usually is best for me.
    Ties are worn with a pin to secure it...and enhance the look with the suit. (about chest level...not lower)
    Tie needs to be notched...end up just over the buckle.

    Here's a good demo...just needs a tie pin. (& remove hair...)

    I'm very picky about my suits...drive the vendors crazy, trying them on.
    Plus I'm not just going to dump any type of money on it...want to find a decent bargain.
    It has to "look" designer...doesn't need to be designer.

    One more thing...I run hot.
    So the layered look isn't going to work for me...nor is any undershirt.
    Any shirt needs to be quality enough to not see though.
    But I don't like to iron too much...so ones that come out of the dryer, ready to wear...non-iron.
    (I like Eagle from Macy's...for standard colors...I experiment for others)

    You, uh, know that Toronto is in Canada, right? At least, I think it is. If it's not then I'll need to figure out why the Queen is on all my money.

    On topic, I like the idea of dressing snappy but in reality I fit pretty much the stereotypical image of an IT worker. Ponytail, two day scruff, tshirt and jeans to every occasion. Yup.

    I don't have any nice suits. Every once and a while I think about it but my weight changes so much and so often that there's no point. I don't want to drop the kind of cash it takes to get a decent suit when I'm fairly sure it won't fit me in six months. Maybe if I can maintain a consistent weight for a year I'll consider it.

    Hrm... You seem to be beefy (not meaning fat, just bulky and not all shredded with veins and sinew sticking out everywhere), but with your nose, jawline, and skull shape if you did the 90-day Insanity workout or joined CrossFit, or maybe just took up a low-calorie diet and a bunch of cardio and got shredded down, you'd look an awful lot like Jason Statham in The Transporter series when you wore a suit...

    Thank you, I appreciate it. Actually, what you're seeing are the after-affects of PTSD with life with my Ex.
    And if you think I'm exaggerating...no, not at all. I had to deal with many life or death choices in the 7 years I was with her. (3 auto-immune diseases, etc.)

    So, I'm getting back on track to what you're describing.
    I was 30-40 lbs lighter, cut and in good shape doing Martial Arts just like Mr. Statham (except mine was American Kenpo)
    And I "did" do the 90-day Insanity workout. (or at least Guns, Buns & Abs) and finished it too...just didn't keep it up.

    So I'm slowly getting there...mother nature doesn't happen overnight.
    And I'm dealing with my stresses...so that translates into food...at least in the Winter.

    But even if I got back into fighting form and then some...my frame is still what it is...still big shoulders, big neck, big torso.
    And unlike most men...my height is in my torso...so I dress for the exception.
    I'll still wear the same style...perhaps a size or two down.

    Where I'll lose my weight/size when I get fit again, is in my neck, abdominal area...and shoulders (in the back)
    But I'll grow bigger in chest and arms
    And My thighs, calves will stay big, they'll just be firmer.
    I'll have to adjust my cut to a bit more athletic, but not much...my pants will reduce in waist from 45 to 40.

    So, if we use "Suits" as an analogy...I'd be more styling like Harvey, not Mike.

    BTW...you're not the first to note the relationship to Kratos.
    And actually, when I was playing with my new avatar switching from ye old encrusted skull,
    I tried out a fully armored version of him...but it either didn't translate well or seemed a bit too "real"
    and that's what I'd have to do cos-play in full armor, I'm not quite that muscular...but it's a really good goal. (sans scars & tats) ;)

    The clothes make the man, and confidence is king. Both true.

    I had a neighbor one time who was morbidly obese (a genetic flub, and when I knew him his health was very good) and had scars on his face & neck from being severely burned in a fire that almost killed him. He came from family money, made plenty of money, and knew to spend it wisely on well-made custom suits, and top quality casual wear. He didn't let his weight and scars hold him back.

    A thought regarding dress shirts..

    A lot of guys are like me, they've put on more than a few pounds over the years, yet still try to get by with their old dress shirts. My justification used to be "It's still like new, I only wore it a few times." Your dress shirts might still fit your body, depending on the cut of the shirt and if the sleeves are still long enough. What I notice is many guys will wear dress shirts that are way too tight in the collar. This is especially noticeable if your neck is fleshy. Spend the money on some dress shirts that actually fit your neck comfortably. Just because you can still get the top button closed doesn't mean the shirt still "fits."

    Since I'm in a chatty mood, another tip:

    Invest in hangers that actually fit your suit coats and jackets. Yes, you can find hangers that match the shoulder width. Consider them to be a worthwhile up-front investment. A good shop/store/tailor should make sure that you have the correct hanger, but not always.

    I have two nice suits that I haven't worn in years. One of them now has a noticeable 'crease' in the shoulders because the hanger wasn't wide enough for the shoulders. It might be possible for a professional tailor with the right equipment to get rid of the creases, I haven't yet checked.

    I told my wife a while ago, that with a "good" body, everything looks good. This thread sort of demonstrates that for mens fashion too. If you are good looking and fit, clothes look better on you.

    If you are not, what you are wearing becomes an after thought to others. I realized this when I realized that subconsciously as I got fit, suddenly what I was wearing became more important to me. I found myself shopping in more trendy or expensive places instead of Khols which is where about all my clothes came from, from 2000-2010.

    A fat man in a suit, the first thing most people think is fat guy, THEN nice suit. When you are in shape, they just think "nice suit".
