So, I've been addicted to this goofy 80s radio station on Spotify and to YouTubing some older music lately. I know what appeals to me, but I'm wondering what voices or vocalists you could listen to any day... not necessarily the music all the time, but that voice... the one that gives you goose bumps or makes your day. Auditory orgasms or just wonderful feels. I'm looking for some more to add to my listening pleasures, maybe we can share some awesomeness.
Here are just some of mine, in no particular order... I'll add more as I think of them.

    • Annie Lennox - good lord, the power in that woman's voice gives me chills
    • Andrea Bocelli - he and Pavarotti bring me to tears at times, I love blasting opera at home
    • Peter Gabriel - like Tori Amos, he has a quality to his voice that is instantly recognizable and I find him all the time, though some of the music drives me nuts... except the collaborations with Afro Celt Sound System
    • Marvin, Otis, Barry and Curtis get their own category, because they give me delicious shivers
    • Gayle McCormick of Smith - "Baby, It's You" is one of my all-time favorites, I can't even put my finger on why I love her voice so much
    • Adele - her songs often get repetitive, but the timbre and quality of her voice is really appealing to my ears
    • Nina Simone and Ella Fitzgerald - two of my favorite female vocalists... because they're just so damn powerful and provoke a lot of emotion in me
    Whatcha got for me, TFP?

fflowley Don't just do something, stand there!

I have this fantasy that involves Shirley Manson whispering/singing sweet nothings in one ear while Gwen Stefani takes the other ear.
Of course there's other stuff going on in this fantasy but that's not what this thread is about!

Kate Bush -- Suspended In Gaffa still gets me.
Amy Lee from Evanescence -- power and control
Sinead O'Connor -- Just about anything but The Foggy Dew brings chills every time
Sharon den adel from Within Temptation -- opera, metal, goth, everything
Shirley Manson from Garbage -- nobody sounds like her
Simone Simons from Epica -- pipes that kill
Cristina Scabbia from Lacuna Coil -- dark, wicked and angry
Angela Gossow formally of Arch Enemy -- nobody can growl like that
Annie Lennox -- Sweet dreams are made of this
Ani DeFranco -- Dilate is an amazing album even if she doesn't play the songs off it anymore.

Hmm, looking at this list I notice a trend.

    Alison Kraus.
Not only is she an accomplished musician, she also has a fantastic voice. Not the widest range (like I would know  ), but damn she knows how to work with what she has.

    Jewel.
I prefer her folk music and original songs, but when you're Jewel you can veer off the path if you want to.

    Joan Osborne.
She can sing it all--rock, country, standards, etc. Without screeching on the tough songs, such as Son of a Preacher Man.

    Steve Earle.
A very 'earthy' singer IMO. And a hell of a songwriter.

    Joe Cocker.
Not many white guys can convincingly pull off singing soul, Joe can. Keep trying, Bolton & McDonald, keep trying.

    Stevie Wonder.
Singer, songwriter, composer, multi instrumentalis, producer, etc.

    Tony Bennett.
Yes, Tony Bennett. And I'll include Sinatra, Steve Lawrence, Harry Connick Jr., & even Michael Buble.

Janis Joplin. A voice with character, that seemed to tell a story no matter what the lyrics were.

I got the chills from Eva Cassidy, especially when seeing her live when I had the opportunity

I agree with Joan Osborn , Janice Joplin and Joe Cocker.

I like the laid back mellowness of James Taylor and the jazzy mellowness of Sade

Boz Scaggs is smooth, whether upbeat or slowed down

    Suzanne Vega is just unique.

Trying not to post any repeats is harder than I thought...

    Steve Walsh (Kansas)
    Steve Perry (Journey & solo)
    Dolly Parton
    Kenny Rogers
    Frankie Valli
    Davy Jones
    Skeeter Davis
    Karen Carpenter
    Marty Robbins
    Buddy Holly
    Hank Williams
    Dwight Yoakam

and to take a different tack...

Eminem - not a great fan of rap, but I like listening to his voice, and the rhythm and cadence of his songs

The "perfect lineup" the Statesman Quartet had from 1952-1957 until Denver Crumpler died of complications caused by his diabetes being badly mis-diagnosed as a heart attack.
That would be Be Jake Hess, "Big Chief", Doy Ott, and Denver Crumpler.
