I'm not even 30 and I have a rather considerable amount of gray hair. On me, it looks like highlights. Obviously, your peers missed the memo that gray hair is fashionable right now. Gray is being used for highlights in hair by professional stylists for people under 30, especially for blondes. I don't dye my hair purposefully to cover my gray. If I dye my hair, I do so because I want a color change. I've also stopped using chemical dye. I used henna for the first time last month and really liked the results.

If I'm like my mom, I'll be almost totally white by my early 40s. She dyes her hair. I don't plan on dyeing mine.

Medi, the fact that only your female co-workers are suggesting that you color your hair tells me that they're insecure. You are beautiful - gray or no gray.

As a redhead, I am losing my hair rather than going gray... I have no intention of wearing a wig.

My wife is starting to grey. I didn't even notice until she pointed it out to me. I dislike dyed hair; it takes too much upkeep to avoid the uncolored roots.

    Aww, thanks.

I totally agree--which is why I liked using henna. It kind of faded over time. It's still pretty well-adhered to the gray, but the rest of my hair has slowly turned back to its regular color in the month since I did it.

I'm turning 41 this week. There are a few greys and when I grow a beard there are quite a few in there. I don't care. It amazes me the amount of effort that people go to hide the fact that they aren't 18 any more. Colouring your hair to hide the greys is akin to a facelift to me - i.e. a complete waste of time.

Gray hair on my head and face doesn't bother me, so I don't bother coloring. For some reason the gray on my chest bugs me, but I don't color it either. My woman says she likes the gray.

Took a bit to find but finally found almost decent sized examples of why I would never dye my hair:

I have a handful of gray hairs.. and I don't intend to color my hair again. Ever, probably. My mother did comment on my gray, though.. saying that she hopes I gray like my dad (who was gray all over by 40ish) rather than in a "skunk stripe" like her.. she said she started coloring her hair because of said stripe and just hasn't stopped.

My dad's nickname is the Silver Fox because he was almost completely grey by 40. He has hair like mine - very dark brown. My mom has blond hair and her grey/whites have grown in and just look fantastic on her.

I stopped dying my hair 2 years ago, and got it cut earlier this year to donate. When it was cut, all the hair that remained on my head was my natural hair and "virgin" hair. I plan on keeping it that way, as its just so much more healthy. Lots of people would LOVE to have thick hair like I do, and I would rather do what it takes to keep it healthy.

I do have some greys that make an appearance but against the dark brown they are actually more silvery shiny.

I first found grey hair when I was 13. Eek! My great grandmother was completely grey by the time she was 25, and I MIGHT be now, if I hadn't started coloring when I was 16.

Right now, I have that "skunky stripe." Sometimes, I think it looks cool. Sometimes, not so much. I like to color my hair, though, to play around with different colors more than just covering the grey. Blonde in the summer, red in the fall, brownish during the winter, with differing shades of all three. Well, that's when I keep up with it, anyway. :) One of these days, I'll do something outrageous like bright pink or blue...even though I worry I'm getting too old for that :(

At any rate, a big PSSHAW to other people saying you should color. That's kinda rude. Plus, you're all pretty & stuff no matter what :)

My hair started turning gray when I was 16, and it got to the point that once I was 18 people would comment on it. It bothered me a lot back then, and I used to think I would dye it before it got as bad as my dad, who was completely gray by his mid 30's. I dyed it a couple of times a few years ago, too much hassle to dye it every couple of weeks. Plus it seems to have stabilized, the temples are about 50/50 between gray and color, but I still have more color than gray everywhere else. Plus now I'm 32 and I see guys my age that are bald I don't feel so bad.

My hairstylist and I often makes jokes about that in regards to myself: I will probably go gray, but my hair will never be thin.

I've got exactly one grey hair. I'm 29, so I guess I shouldn't worry about it too much. I really couldn't care less...I cut my hair as short as possible as often as I can/remember to.

I believe that as long as you're happy with the skin (or in this case, hair) you're in, nobody else's opinion matters. So screw 'em.

Yeah, yeah, I know, yet another thread raised from the dead by Chris Noyb.

Better grey than nay. I'm in my early 50s, have plenty of grey hair which is very evident since I normally keep my hair cut pretty short. I've never dyed my hair, have no intention of starting.

I can understand why some men would want to, especially if maintaining a younger look is important to their profession. The same thinking can apply to those looking for a job. If looking younger gives one an edge, or at least levels the playing field, why not?

As for vanity dyeing, that's a personal decision.

Still going gray. Still embracing it. Actually, I think it's slowed down. I have a nice stripe and some highlights scattered throughout my hair from silver to white. They're sparkly. Last year I had students ask if I'd done it on purpose, as it does look quite attractive.

I have discovered that stress seemed to play a major factor in my hair going grey. I was finding them left and right for a while while I was super super stressed. Since it was single strands, I honestly just plucked them even though the saying goes take one out, 3 come to the party.

Over the last year, I've seen significantly less. Now I've probably jinxed myself by saying this, but it was an interesting discovery to find.

I don't have to worry about my hair, since I'm fully bald.
Although, my goatee is getting salt & pepper.

I tried a grey shade out formula for it and it wasn't bad.
But remembering to do it every few weeks is a pain, so I'll likely not continue due to my own lack of discipline.

But my face is youngish anyway, so a greyish beard isn't going to affect me.
Maybe when I start dating regularly I'll change my mind...who knows.

But when you've already lost your hair in your mid-20's, you're already over the "getting older" woes.
I'm more interested in my efforts of getting in shape.

I will say this, getting grey on your chest hairs is strange.
I don't want to think about what happens when even lower starts going.

Y'all are lucky. I just turned 36 and am probably 75% grey on top and sides. I can remember it starting to turn in high school or right after.

    I hate it.

I also hate coloring it. It's so high-maintenance. Maybe I'm just super aware of it, but I feel the color needs touching up every 3 weeks to look good. That's a LOT of time spent either doing it at home or going to a salon.

If I wasn't so young I'd just say eff it and let it go But on me, it just doesn't look right. I love grey on other people though. Do what makes you comfortable. For me, it's coloring. I just feel more like myself with freshly colored hair. Maybe one day I won't. We'll see.

I guess this is a gentle nudge from the Universe reminding me it's time to head into the salon!
