From Gardez to Ghazi, Wazi Khwa to Khayr Kot, Sharana to Jalalabad...

    Afghanistan is a shithole.

/no, really... the public toilets are overflowing into the streets

/wants his tax dollars to go to his own country sometime in his lifetime

/kids that were 11 years old during 11 Sept 2001 are dying in Afghanistan

You mean the fuck up, where after throwing in billions of dollars worth of weapons and resources to turn Afghanistan into a continuous exploding barrel you failed to even spend the tiniest amount to build schools and hospitals to not let all those war orphans turn into fundamentalist loonies who then went on to pillage the country for 10 years?

    That fuck up, right?

Thankfully, Germany didn't have a Bush president presiding over its reconstruction and development money.

Germany was working for Afghanistan's reconstruction since the early 90's, and they did a hell of a job with the funding they had available.

And I have a hunch (not just a hunch), Germany will be involved in helping Afghanistan long after the US finally concedes and gives up.

Damn right it's your money. Which you spent enriching mostly American corporations and contractors than actually do something productive with it.

Hey, you work for one of those contractors. Have you seen what an absolute farce your country's procurement process is?

In any case, back in 2003 you had Afghanistan at the perfect spot to start proper reconstruction. And had you actually done an even remotely-acceptable job, "A-stan" would look quite different today. Guaranteed.

If you can spend trillions fucking around, why can't you spend half that actually doing things properly?

I'm an American. You're not. Notice how we're never going to agree on this.

We went full retard on the Killing Dem Terrorists thing, then messed it up.

You're preaching to the choir. I've been over there. I get your points.

It was stupid. It was wasteful. It was a fuck-up. Blah, blah, blah.

I'm sure you realize that there are people that just don't agree.

Thanks for the history lesson, though. We all needed that.

/off to build empty schools in other third world shitholes

/I think we should blame Russia for Afghanistan's issues

/no, really, because they're Russian and care even less

Oh yeah, I realized that after my last comment and simply tuned out for a while.

And hey, at least those asshole Russians managed to build a good amount of schools, hospitals and government infrastructure within 10 years. :D

Have to say the day we dropped in Afghanistan I had really mixed feelings.
The part of me that wanted to help all those girls who couldn't go to school and the teachers getting shot for teaching them was happy.
The part of me that knew my history was scared.
I told a friend who is a adjunct professor of history, "If we aren't out of there in a year, we're going to be there for five or six years."
He pushed his Guinness though his big red beard and said, "If we aren't out of there in a year, we won't be able to get out."
    So far he's been right.

All we had to do was look at what happened to the Russians, the English, Alexander the Great, and just about every other army that has tried to go beyond the major cities in that damned country.

It's Final Fantasy 14, jackass :p (I keep it on pretty much 24/7 and the PC reconnects every now and then.)

We should totally get that L4D2 thing organized. Sometime this week?

    Suck it, Snowy.

I dislike the Spurs because of the tank job they pulled to get the draft pick for Tim Dincan (yeah, yeah, ancient history, every team does it, blah, blah, blah), but I dislike the Mavericks even more (Cuban, the dallas cowgirls, Dallas in general, the dallas cowgirls).

    Win, Spurs, win!

It's Detroit. I could have done all those things, including probably 10 misdemeanors in front of him and had nothing happen because I am a relatively pretty young white girl and they have bigger fish to try and fry.

Not saying it's right, just saying it's true.

Wow, got some writing done this morning and managed to get the bedroom all packed up. Next up is the spare room. I'm leaving the office for last. It's about 65% packed up.

In Texas, as a woman (especially being white, young, attractive, with no serious record) you could commit premeditated murder and receive a very light sentence. All you would need is the filmsiest of a reason for doing it. You wouldn't even need a lot of $$$ for an attorney, many of our best criminal defense attorneys love to take cases defending white women on murder charges. A high profile case defending a "helpless" female, even taken pro bono, brings them many wealthy clients in return.

I now have the image of you & @DamnitAll reworking a classical opera as rap.

Hmm.....now where did I last see my wife's book that explains Figaro?
