    A digression (sort of):

What you describe is what author Jean Auel (female, an important fact IMO) wrote about in her Earth's Children Series of novels. Prior to the extended sexual education, the girls underwent the Opening Up ceremony. Basically a man was chosen and was asked to do the honors of deflowering the virgin girl in order to "open" her vagina to womanhood.

Now for the part that ties into this thread. One of the main characters in the series of six books, introduced in the second novel, is Jondalar. He has a long history of participating in many Opening Up ceremonies, and not just within his tribe. The main reason that he is so often asked is......he has a huge penis. He's also very tall, handsome, and muscular. As I previously mentioned, author Jean Auel is female.

I understand your curosity. I'm not sure that you're going to get many responses.

And I certainly hope that most women don't carry around rulers, tape measures, etc. for the express purpose of measuring men's penises :D . I would find that embarassing :( .

There's no need to start a new thread, it's been discussed and some of the ladies have already been kind enough to answer.
Answer: it varies according to woman, mood and preference. No rule.

Or our vaginas. I have no idea, nor do I really want to know "how much I can take."

Sorry fellas. I'm with Snowy on this one. See, I haven't ever measured my fellas, or even asked. It's never really mattered to me. So, I've no idea.

I grew up reading Penthouse Variations and similar magazines. They were my primary source of porn. Sure, I have a few magazines with pictures, but it was text that turned my crank and filled my head with ideas. Moving images were a rarity as I was too young to rent porn on VHS or get into a porn cinema.

  6. I feel as though Snowy and Katia have stated the general opinion of most women I've talked to on this subject; the long of the short of it is that, unless it's at either extreme end of the spectrum, it really doesn't matter. If you fall anywhere in the middle, you're fine.

Said ladies (the ones I've talked to) have also said that they actually tend to prefer more towards the average side of the spectrum than the 'large' side, mostly because guys with larger packages tend to get lazier and assume that their dick is going to do all of the work. Rarely does it work out that way.

It's not about 'having it' or 'not having it.' It's about learning how to use what you have, in whatever way that means.

Also, it's extremely interesting to me that, as a whole, guys care more about this topic than girls do (in my experience).

As a swinger topic this is pretty common, because guys are always afraid the other guy will have a bigger dick and now their wife won't ever be satisfied by them every again. No matter how many times women say it doesn't work like that, it still comes up pretty consistently. (pun intended)

A couple of things that have become clear over the years of doing "swinger advice" and reading a lot of articles on it.

#1 - The average penis size is closer to 5 inches not 6. It turns out the 6" thing was from self reported measurements. When actually measured its 5, go figure. This was done by the only people on the planet where such data needs to be accurate, condom manufacturers. I can tell they shifted this too. When I was a lad in college, condoms fit me fine, now they are tighter then hell and I can't function in them. Its not the length but they also reduced the girth. So either my penis is bigger since I was in my 20's or they made condoms smaller. I'm going with smaller condoms.

#2 - Scientifically looked at, and I no longer have the chart, the over all best possible penis was 7.5" and girthy (I forget the girth).

#3 - The above obviously will NOT apply to all women.

#4 - The "big dick" factor is a bigger turn on for women who have never had a big one then those that have, that shit can HURT.

#5 - You are more likely to get rejected for a big one. I've never heard of a women who called off sex cause it was too small, but its not unheard of if its too big (see hurting).

#6 - In personal experience, we have only "run into" one penis about 8" or so. The guy was about 5'6". Every other one has been 6" or smaller, usually smaller.

#7 - Girth matters more to women then length. Obviously there will be limits.

#8 - Swingers tend to be nudists to a good extent. Put swingers in a clothing optional environment and the clothes come off. For the women. Men are just innately insecure and for every man fully nude there will be about 3 women. This I think leads to the bigger dick myths out there too. As guys with bigger ones are more likely to "show off".

    1. I've always thought that the size surveys were too generous. Most guys will lie, or at least exxagerate a bit, regarding their size. Self-delusion plays a role as well.

    4. I firmly believe that women who haven't experienced a large penis are curious about trying one. It's perfectly natural IMO. I can speak for my wife's curosity/fantasies verses our experience (with large toys, we've been monogamus for 29 years), the reality is there's a point where really big is too much. In her case, I'm not sure how/if her "taking" a large penis IRL would work. We've discussed it. If she ever reaches the point where she really wants to go for it, I'd be OK with it. I wouldn't be too concerned (I readily admit that there would be some concern) about losing her.

    8. I've ranted about how pro porn can lead to skewed views of what is "normal," especially among the inexperienced and/or impressionable. In amateur porn, or even with guys simply sharing some explicit images with a limited number of others, which guys are most likely* to show their erections? The guys with a large penises. I've seen it happen on TFP 4, the version previous to this one. And to throw a wrench in the works, take a wild guess as to which images received the most favorable (in content & in numbers) comments from the ladies.

    * There are exceptions.

I also understand that, no matter what the size or orifice, a real penis is easier/better than any kind of artificial device.

In other words, there are sizes for which a human could be accommodated and enjoyed, but a toy of exactly the same size would cause great pain.

ok.... from a man with a small penis reading the above makes me wonder why swingers are more comfortable with their body than most other people

It would be difficult to swing without showing at least some of your body? ;)

Serious answer--Some people just are more comfortable with nudity. I've had experienced nudists/naturalists (not swingers) tell me the naked body is practically nothing to them sexually speaking.

  15. Wow, I never realized how pathetically inadequate I was in girth before.
...and here I thought all that laughing was because of my witty personality.

    !
I can't post a link? Even an internal link to someone's post? Great. And I have a small dick. Well hell, I'll just go stick my head in the oven now.

Kind of surprised by the tone of the response, although that might be a "self selection" effect (i.e. the ppl who feel the strongest are the most likely to respond).

I was curious because, while discussions of penis size are rampant the "complementary" discussion is almost non-existent. Further, as penis size is largely self-reported and subject to variation in method (top, bottom, supported, unsupported, along the curve, across the chord, ...) meaningful comparison is questionable. On the other hand, in my experience, most (80%+) woman own at lest one sex toy and many I suspect own more than one. Assuming (please try to keep flaming below medium-well, I'm a newb) that at lest some of said toys were bought by the woman herself, I thought woman might have a more accurate idea of their measurement(s).

It just seems odd the amount of time that is spent discussing penis length with little or no consideration given to the corresponding metric.

Perhaps a better question (new thread?) would be do woman like it to bottom out? Is it a turn-on? Do some woman find it painful and unpleasant while others find the sensation pleasurable, or painful and pleasurable. For that matter, how about our well endowed male members*; is bottoming out painful? A turn-on. Any closet sadists that are just a little bit turned on that it hurts her when you go really deep. Be honest, does it stroke** your ego, just a little (at lest when you were younger), knowing you're "too much man" for her.

    *Yes that was intentional.
    **That one as well.

[Of course the answer is yes, no, all-of-the-above, sometimes... It's supposed to be a discussion, not a definitive declaration of universal truth]

There's a post count until you can post links; it's designed to cut down on spam.

Speaking from personal experience of a variety of sizes, both in length and girth, there are lots of things to be done if the man is on the small side--position changes and the like. The options are much more limited for a larger man, at least for me.

    You're not alone in that.

You need to stay around and post more, and eventually that ability will come to you.

That head-in-the-oven thing is archaic, a relic of the days when many ovens were powered by deadly coal gas, which was 10% carbon monoxide. Natural gas, which we use today, smells terrible (deliberately) and doesn't kill you until it displaces all the oxygen. See "Why have people stopped committing suicide with gas?"

Pfft. Only owning one sex toy is for amateurs.

The problem with your question is that the vagina is pretty flexible and accommodating. With the right warmup, I can accommodate more, for example. As for bottoming out, that again depends on how turned on I am. If I'm not that turned on, it's painful. If he hits my cervix, it's painful. Now, if I'm turned on adequately, it's pleasurable, but it has to be in the right spot--NOT the cervix. If he works me up to it (and my husband is quite good at this), bottoming out with a little wiggle is amaaazing.

I think overall you are right but thats just experience of being out there. My wife is STILL insecure about her body but thats just who she is, she is a lot more sure of herself than she was prior to swinging though. I think it may have a bigger boosting effect on women then men over all. Swingers come from, and this is not a cliche, all walks of life, quite literally and ALL body types. Some could be underwear models, others need to apply for weight loss surgery before its too late. I've very confident in my body these days but thats 100% gym/diet and 0% penis. This is going to sound maybe at odds with the thread theme but being a "grower not shower" means that at times my penis will turtle up and my WIFE is the one who gets embarrassed for me, being she doesn't want anyone to think I have a really small penis. I wonder if when we are on swinger vacations its why more men stay in the hot tub than the swimming pool :p (half serious)

I think so, or it was one like it, it was several years ago. Looking at that chart I think it errs on the side of "too big", and the girth seems kinda unrealistic.
