April Fool's Day!

April Fool's day is a pretty polarizing "holday". For the most part, I think the pranks are silly, but also kind of fun.

My highlight of pranking history was showing up to school the day before April Fool's Day on crutches, and going through until the next day. I had so much dedication, I broke down crying when a few people tried to call me out on it, because I wanted to be convincing.

I also usually like some of the silly things companies do. This year, Google Maps is doing a worldwide Pokemon hunt, which has been a lot of fun. Reddit also introduced "Headdit", which involved navigating Reddit with facial expressions picked up from your webcam. Surprisingly, it works pretty well!

What are your thoughts on April Fool's Day? Ever pull any fun pranks?

34 years ago today, I was on my way to the courthouse to get married. I realized it was April Fools day and made a U turn. I didn't want to make it a joke. My wife thought it would be funny and something that we could tease each other about forever. I hate to admit that she was right. We got maried 2 days later.

I'll probably pick up an anniversary card and scratch in "almost" on it, today.

Oh GOD. My mother is the prank master. *shudder* I've blocked out the memories of her pranks.

If I were teaching today, you better believe I'd be pranking my students. I like prank quizzes.

I supervised a young man who was introverted and painfully shy around girls, even the girl he was living with. They had been roomates for a few years, he had a total crush on her, but never made a move, even though she apparantly dropped more than a few hints about wanting him. They did get married (only after she told him some other guys had asked her out). Since no one in his hometown would ever believe that he got married, he chose April 1st.

    ---------------------------------------------------

I don't like surprises, or pranks. At all.

I saw one of the prank videos where a guy is bungy jumping. Just as he is jumping, his friends start panicking and yelling "No, wait!," You're not tied off!", etc. I can honestly say I would never again speak to them. If I decided to let them live.

One of my favorites was the TFP Canadian Takeover back in...2009? Trying to find a screen shot, but not having any luck so far.

Edit: Did find what it SAID, at least:

Edit the Second: I don't really go all out for April Fool's Day...I feel bad legitimately tricking people. I have posted a couple of silly links on FB, but no one appears to be amused or fooled yet.

Oh my god. If you use Skydrive to create a document today, the paperclip pops up and tries to help.

Oh, I play pranks...but not on April Fools Day...too many are expecting it.

My ex & I played a great one on my in-laws...we found a huge blowup snowglobe on clearance ($20).
It had a rotating Reindeer, Penguin, Candy Cane and something else.
We snuck into their front yard when they went out...blew it up.
Put "Merry Xmas" on it. (they're Jewish and so were we)
And left it, rotating in all its glory.

They came back and said WTF!!
But at least in this case, they had a sense of humor...they took down the sign, but kept up the globe for fun.

My pranks tend to be more in the moment.
Although I do appreciate the ones I read about and see on AFD.
There's some good originality out there.

I'm going to watch the Craig Ferguson show, he switched with Drew Carrey of the Price is Right.

I don't mind April Fools Day. I never think of a prank and no one in my circle of friends ever tries one, but I do like the idea of the day. I especially enjoy when companies and businesses get in on the fun.
    Here are a few examples I saw this year;

the Gold Coast Bullitin and the Sunrise show announced that the 2018 Commonwealth Games held on the Goal Coast in Queensland would be reverting to its original name the British Empire Games
I live on the other side of the country so I didn't see the newspaper story, but the Sunrise story tricked me.

This one didn't get me but I thought it was a good try.
Vegemite announced on its fb page that they were releasing the iDrink 2.1 energy drink. Vegemite flavoured.

I thought this one was funny,
Kogan Drone Broadband Network takes flight - Kogan Australia

Then there was this one that my Sister is still hoping is real

On the way to work, I thought about asking a friend to call my boss and a coworker saying that I had put them down as references for a new job, but I didn't have time.

On a day like today I wonder how long the battery on a ThinkGeek Annoy-o-Tron lasts ... and where I put mine.
    Woah.
    Nice dedication from the kids.

    ^ That was great.
I loved how the professor said he would always treasure it.
Probably used it as a teaching moment for the rest of his career.

My son's year 4 teacher pranked them this year. She got the teacher next door to tell the class that she had gone home sick and that the student reps would need to "take" the class until the substitute arrived. My son and the other rep got the children started on their spelling...after about 15 minutes they discovered the teacher hiding in the storeroom.

My son thinks it was hilarious :)
