What happened to their fondness of "states' rights?"

The US House passed the "Enforce the Law Act," which would force the President to crack down on states that have decriminalized pot. Those usually extolling states' rights were, of course, leading the charge.

    Full Title
To protect the separation of powers in the Constitution of the United States by ensuring that the President takes care that the laws be faithfully executed, and for other purposes.

Of course this is just a way sue the president to get impeachment proceedings going because they haven't been able to find anything else to pin on him.

The GOP and TP are the biggest Hypocrites around. States rights on weed legalization, energy efficiency (in Ohio at least, not Mississippi), clean water, reducing spending on military and other big ticket items, etc...

If only the Democrats were organized, had a plan they could share for improving things, and get everyone all on a similar message this next election should be easy.

One base is definitely much more energized for this year's off year (non presidential) elections

Sad, but I'm afraid there is some truth to it. Maybe the non-politically active will come out and vote, but the right-wing has a lot more loud mouth passionate people on their side, a lot more corporate money, and a lot better organization to get their message out. Even if it is bad for people.

Yep, that seems to be the norm now.
GOP leveraging the presidential off years, because their base is more focused and active.
Dems leverage the presidential election years, just because that's when the pay attention and are willing to go.

If Dems could somehow get out the base on the off years, the GOP would be in trouble.
But for the most part, they use their advantage on off years to get people in to cause trouble for the Dems.
Ironic to say the least.

Is the GOP attempting to demonstrate every unethical (but not illegal) and incompetent manipulation know to man??
What we are supposed to be teaching our children...this is how you should conduct your life and treat others?

New G.O.P. Bid to Limit Voting in Swing States

I agree that Dems are wishy-washy, apologetic and don't know how to leverage their own position and push their platform.
But the GOP is deteriorating into a cartoonish real-life version of Snidely Whiplash...trying to cheat & skew every race to win.

How can I vote for a group like that, even if I agree with them on some aspects???

I can tell you this..."if" the GOP wins the Senate,
Obama will go from being one of the least vetoing presidents...to a vetoing sonuvabitch.

It's 6+ months to go to the elections...the GOP better not be presumptuous...and get their act together.
They may have the initial, "leanings" and voter advantage this mid-term.
    HOWEVER
    1. The odds can change like the winds in that time. (remember how Obama went down, then up, then down, then up all in a matter of 2 months...)
    2. The story/tone could change too with an event.
    3. The Dems could leverage their own resources and find some spine...and get out the vote.
    4. The GOP candidate have a REALLY bad habit of sicking their foot in their mouth and saying something stupid or insane.
It's theirs to lose. (at least that's what the stats people say...but they've been wrong before)

Actually, I hate to say this...they better hope the economy stops improving and some bad stuff happens,
because when people are pissed, they want change...but when it's decent, they stay the course.
Probably why they're screaming so much...

I didn't think it would be this soon...but conservative reps are already "sticking their foot in it" (10 days after I predicted it...but it was a gimme:rolleyes:)
Not only racist ranchers which they put up on a pedestal just before his inane remarks...but otherwise (The GOP's bad boys)

Now, the Dems weakness, their inability to get their own behind them...even at times of need...this is subtle, but significant. (especially during the mid-terms)
But this weakness of GOP's...it is apparent, obvious and just plain old fodder for the media. (like feeding a horse sugar...)

Their saving grace in this is the Public's weakness...which is Attention Deficit Disorder and inconsistent memory.

So the question is...will they allow this to turn into a trend again?
And will the Dems actually hammer them on it...and turn around and get out the vote?

Grimm arrest makes re-election tougher – CNN Political Ticker - CNN.com Blogs

I don't know if their districts are as gerrymandered as ours, but I would hope the people of New York in his district are smart enough to not re-elect this guy.

The problem is the spin machine will try and make it seem like he is the 'victim' when he is the bully.

I'm hoping that the Democrats have a better plan than to hope that 20 GOP congressmen get caught breaking the law or kissing a staffer. They should have a long list on every senator, congressman, and congresswoman of all the lobbyists they helped screw over the public, how far right they turn right after trying to appeal to the rational center at election time, and what damage their policies would cause.

The guy kept two sets of books so he could pay the people who worked for him under the table.
He didn't pay payroll taxes and unemployment, than lied about it under oath.
I really don't see how he can make himself into a victim.

I guess he is saying that this is 'political' and the DOJ is out to get him because he is a Republican...

I'm sure he will, loud and long.
Just interested to see how the former FBI agent gets out from under the charges of hiring non-papered immigrants and paying them cash to avoid having to report it to the IRS.

Or accuse them of wanting to be more like Iran.

    Iowa. Iran.

They're both four letters, beginning with i.

Can we waterboard Iowa congressman Steve King?

On young girls getting pregnant from statutory rape or incest
Well I just haven’t heard of that being a circumstance that’s been brought to me in any personal way, and I’d be open to discussion about that subject matter.

On judicial “activism” (but only if he opposes the “activist” decision
“If we’re going to respect judge-made law and stop praying in our public schools, that was the beginning of the judicial activism that’s begun to break down this civilization, and this culture.”

    On Planned Parenthood
Harry Reid can defend those ghoulish and ghastly and gruesome practices that Planned Parenthood is advocating along with child prostitution and illegal immigration..”

On establishing a ‘50s McCarthy era House Un-American Activities Committee
I think that is a good process and I would support it....to study “the ugly spread of Marxism in America, its roots, branches and current manifestations, particularly within the administration of President Barack Hussein Obama.”

    On gay marriage
So, I’m afraid if that happened — if we lose the marriage, we lose the home, we lose the nuclear family then we can’t teach our values. We won’t be able to teach our faith. We won’t be able to teach life. We won’t be able to teach our Constitutional values either...”

On DREAM Act allowing kids brought to the US illegally and have never committed a crime or been in any trouble with the law be allowed to stay and work towards citizenship.
For every one that's a valedictorian, there's another 100 out there that they weigh 130 pounds and they've got calves the size of cantaloupes because they're hauling 75 pounds of marijuana across the desert.
