Food What's For Dinner Tonight?

4oz wild caught salmon lightly brushed with toasted sesame oil, sea salt, and peppercorn blend.
With 4 cups of baby greens topped with a few tablespoons of goat cheese, pecans, and dried cranberries.
3 blocks each of protein, fats, and carbs. Yup, yup.

 

Top Sirloin steak. Just like the last 3 nights... For the protein. Trying to put on a little size.

 

Last night, all homemade, except the chips & ice cream.
Quacamole and chips. Beef stew. Ginger snaps with Blue Bell coffee ice cream.

 

Last night was hamburgers.

 

Frozen burritos.

 

Last night was homemade tacos for us. We were discussing the last time that we bought packaged taco seasoniong, probably at least 25 years ago. We got home too late to deal with making

manicotti, which is going to be tonights dinner. Very time consuming, and so worth it.

 

The manicotti is cooling on the counter, and the fresh salads (green leaf lettuce, spinach, tomatoe, muchrooms & asparagus) are chilling in the fridge.

This is an unusually nice weeknight dinner for us, my wife is on spring break.

 

Ah, manicotti!! Another form of Hamsterball Kryptonite....

 

Taco salad. No chips though. Tasty.

 

Oh good, next time you can help us prep it . The good thing it will taste even better after the seasoning have a couple of days to fully set.


Tomorrow we're going to make buttermilk battered fried chicken, the first time either of us has ever cooked fried chicken.

 

We'll give that a try, my wife is a fan of America's Test Kitchen. I think that the TV program now has a new name.

 

As part of our get-some-of-this-damned-crap-out-of-the-kitchen-cabinets effort, we rearranged our cookbooks and loose recipes. Lo and behold, I found a cookbook that we had forgot about (we have a shitload of cookbooks!!), Here in America's Test Kitchen.

A tip to anyone new to cooking, or anyone wanting to add some new cookbooks to the arsenal, and not wanting to spend a small fortune----Thrift stores are a great place to score cookbooks on the cheap. One group operates two stores near us, and HBs are $1.00. I frequently find CBs there. One day I was digging through some boxes recently brought in, and I must have found at least 50 CBs ranging from very new to quite old.
