I cannot watch this shit any more, these F'ing Pharmaceutical commercials ... every one of these drugs will KILL YOU.
From now on, I am "recording" every program and zipping through the commercials

I hear ya... a home theater computer hooked up to a big screen TeeVee and a Netflix account has kept me entertained for years without having to listen to authoritative voices talking about erections lasting for more than four hours, oily rectal discharges or heart attacks while couples throw a Frisbee, a fat guy walks up stairs or some dorky 40-ish white guy smiles a lot around his neighbor's wife at a cookout.

Do you have a question for the group, @Daka? I mean, we can all bitch about TeeVee sucking a fat one but let's structure this conversation.

Maybe something like this: Who still has cable / satellite TeeVee? Why? Who cut the cable? Why?

    That kinda thing.

I travel a lot so I can't justify paying a cable bill. I also can't justify paying ~$100 just because I want Discovery and History and Al Jazeera. As such, I have a low tolerance for commercials.

If I'm actually watching, I control the remote and mute the commercials.

If I'm not watching, but others are, I put on old-style cover-the-ear headphones, and listen to music. If I'm trying to get something done, I prefer instrumentals, and songs with lyrics in another language.

Commercials can cause an unsafe drop in blood pressure.

The only live TV I watch is sports. And I've grown incredibly proficient and using commercials to surf, read, or otherwise distract myself to the point where my wife will say 'did you hear that?' or 'what do you think of that movie preview?' and I honestly won't even know what she's talking about.

I would think it was a spike!

We rarely watch regular television. I have Hulu Plus, Amazon Prime, and Netflix. I have very little need for regular cable--yet I have it. Why? Because it's almost free with my Internet. Almost. The $15 or whatever it is for local channels and the Food Network is worth it sometimes (like when I'm sick).

    Broadcast television?

What, do you still listen to one-way wireless audio transmissions over radio waves as well?

Here, let me tell you something about a global system of interconnected computer networks called "The Internet"...

If I lived where you live, I would not use cable TV at all, and opt for an antenna.

It can be a challenge, depending on where you live. Buildings can get in the way of the signals.

  10. I do not pay for cable TV access. I don't even own a television.

Anything I wanna watch can be found on Netflix, Amazon Instant Video, or through other various means (watching sports at the local bar, going to a friend's house to watch the latest HIMYM, etc)

  11. I turned on the TV for something other than sports on Sunday (I'm another non-cable subscriber). I switched on to watch Cosmos. I was interested to see NDT update the Sagan classic. Felt like 5 minutes of commercials for every 5 minutes of program. Disappointing. I may wait for the DVD to see the rest.

During the late fall and winter, I usually watch a movie. Between April and October, it's usually a baseball game.

I'm so busy that a TV series seems like too much of a commitment. Sad commentary, I know.

Agreed. Tons of commercials. We tried to watch it too. I got kind of bored.

Oh...thank you for that. I was disappointed that I missed it, and promised myself I'd be in front of the TV next Sunday. Now I think I'll just wait to watch it online/buy the DVDs.

We don't have cable. I bought some rabbit ears a couple years ago to watch the London Olympics, and I'll occasionally watch a football game. That's about it... I always forget how annoying commercials are until I watch regular TV again. Otherwise, it's all Netflix and Amazon Prime.

My mom is always surprised, when I go back home, and I laugh at a funny commercial, or get the "what the hell...?" look on my face. "Haven't you seen this before?" she asks. I think it kinda blows her mind that we don't watch regular TV.

I only watch commercials during the Super Bowl. And I don't really care about the football game even.

I am on the fence about cancelling my cable subscription.

I already don't watch any free to air TV and my cable TV is at a minimum. I am mostly watching HBO and HBO on demand combined with Netflix and iTunes.

I can assure you that TV isn't going anywhere for the time being, especially Free to Air TV. There is still a tonne of money flowing through their coffers. Additionally, they are still the best source for local content.

Interesting that TV in the early stages (late 40' on) was on a screen that is about the same size as a lot of people are watching it now (laptops)
Sure, 40 to 80" screens are available and a lot of people have them, but watching on a 10" ?? (Yeah, I know the resolution is better)
    What comes around, goes around.....
