Duke University rules porn star student has not broken any rules

A freshman student at Duke outed herself as a porn star and the college ruled that she wasn't breaking any rules so they weren't going to kick her out.

Of course the world had a hissy fit and people posted nasty things on her Twitter feed but the fact is she is going to graduate without a $60,000 debt.
Duke says they have assistance programs so she really doesn't need to do this but I'm sure none of them pay for everything.

I knew a woman who put herself through college as a stripper but that was many years ago and it was a very different time.
She had to be very careful to keep the two worlds separate.

I know folks here probably don't have the same issues as the rest of the net but I'd be interested in TFPs take on this.
My kiddo is starting graduate school soon and while I know she would never go this route.
She's a hardcore feminist who likes porn but wouldn't be in it - and yes. that's a fun conversation to have with your 22 year old daughter.
I can't help but wonder how her parents feel about the situation.

 

I know a woman who put herself through law school as a stripper.

She was not happy after she graduated, when she found beginning law jobs didn't pay as well as stripping.

Eventually, she moved away from the area where a return to stripping would be a temptation.

 

If she is of legal age, I don't see any reason for the unversity to care if she does porn.

Perhaps my view is too simplistic.


The bigger question in my mind is, what would anyone want others to know they do porn?

 

Why would a University give any shits what someone does to make money (assuming legality)?

The fuckers who have been harassing her over this revelation need to eat a dick.

 

I don't think your view is too simplistic at all.
She had responsibilities to meet as a Duke student, just like all the other students there.
The only thing that matters is whether she met those requirements.
If she did it's nobody's business what she does outside school, so long as she is not breaking laws.

 

There's something to be said about the 'high moral fiber about the students attending this university' that the administration wants to try to maintain (unless, of course, you're on the lacrosse team, in which case make sure you stay away from crazy escorts).

But did she break any rules? Fuck, did she even do anything wrong? No, and no.

Seriously. She's still paying money to the university for an education. Leave the woman alone and let her live her own damn life.

 

Update: The owner of a number of porn sites has made an offer to the student who outed Belle Knox, giving him a chance to bang any porn star he wants and offering an extra $1000 for every inch he over 4.
My favorite part is how he calls the kid out on his very expensive porn habit.

I'm not sure why I'd care how she spends her money, either.

I brought it up for a number of different reasons.
The crushing debt that every college student is going to have when they finish school ( she found a neat way to avoid that).
The fact that another student who spends his parents money on porn felt it was necessary to out her to the school (jealousy much?).
That the school even felt it had to have a ruling on the subject.
I have to admit as a parent I have mixed feelings on the subject (yea sue me, I'm a dad. It's easy to talk about consenting adults and an open society, not so easy when it's your kid doing a DP on camera.)
Finally, I think it's interesting how much our culture has changed.
When TFP started I'm pretty sure she would have been kicked out of school.
