I want to believe it's because I wore my Leafs t-shirt on Saturday and told anyone who asked that I was wearing it in support of Kessel (seriously).

You mean the Leaf is doing well? He's the only leaf having a decent Olympics... JVR has been non existent... I'm a particular fan of the leafs slide downward.... gives my Wings a decent chance at Pittsburgh :S

Jeff Carter did it the day before so please.... follow the Canadian to the rink.... don't you know, the NHL team with the most Canadians on it, is most likely to win the Stanley cup...

At the rate they're going, your Wings are going to have a time of it getting into the playoffs at all.

And? They're devastated with injuries and they're still in contention, I couldn't be more proud of the depth and heart of the team...

They're devestated with injuries because they're old and busted. Alfredsson is what, 42 now? Let's face it, he's only using Detroit as a pit stop between the Canadian Tire Centre and the golf course. And Bertuzzi, apart from being a disgusting thug who never should have been allowed back in the league in the first place, can only have a few years until retirement at this point. Datsyuk isn't exactly young either. That leaves you with what, Zetterberg and Franzen? Better hope for some good draft picks.

In other news, the Leafs pulled out another win tonight against Anaheim after an anemic post-olympics start. Their L10 isn't looking as hot anymore but this win does place them second in the division. A playoff spot is pretty much guaranteed unless they manage to flatline in the next dozen games.

With the stats being what they are at the moment it seems like a quarterfinal pairing against Montreal is in the works. I'm down with that. Honestly, as long as it's not Boston I'm happy. I can't handle that game seven heartbreak again.

And we all know they can manage to flatline quite well. Especially in the last 2 mins of a game...

And I would be very happy with a Montreal QF. That would be sweet.

A loss and another win, and that's 80 points with 14 games left in the season. A 100 point season isn't realistically in the cards, but mid-nineties is a possibility.

Montreal is now jockeying with Tampa for third. We play the winner. Number two is a comfortable place to be, keeps us well away from Beantown. That's just fine with me.

I'm proud of how the boys have played this season. They're a very young team and it shows. They're often sloppy, they tend to show off a bit too much, and they've made their share of bone-headed errors. But man, when they're in the groove it's a sight to behold.

I'm going to be honest. Real talk, here; the Leafs are not a cup winning team this season. I mean, stranger things have happened but if they even manage to make the finals I'll be as surprised as anyone. But a season or two, maybe a good defensive pickup somewhere in there to give them a little more depth, a little more experience as a team? These kids, with the right coaching, they're going places. I'm a life-long Leafs fan and by god I know better than to get my hopes up, but they make me want to do it anyway.

    ...

In other news, I met an Edmonton fan the other day. All I could say was that I respected his commitment. He was understandably bitter.

As for the Edmonton fan - I respect that too. I've always supported what I thought was my "home" team. And through my life the Leafs have been my home team. It helped that there was always a strong rivalry built on the competition between them and Montreal (historically) and the Flyers through the '70's as well as the Sens and their insufferable fans more recently. As well, they have won the Stanley Cup 4 times (62 through 67) since I was born - not that I remember any of that very well.

So even if the team is in a prolonged championship drought, that's all the more reason to get behind them. Ask any fan of the Detroit 'Dead Things" with their 42 year drought (1955 until 1997), Buffalo, Vancouver, St Louis and LA who have never won in over 40 years (since inception of their clubs) or the Original 6 teams of Chicago (47 years between wins) and New York Rangers with an astounding 53 seasons between championships!

So Edmonton is only half way to the level of angst experienced by the Toronto fans. I'm sure they can find the strength in themselves :)

BUT - Last night the boys in blue really showed their stuff in winning against LA, even with Bernier pulled with an injury. Reimer came up big! And the team has 4 out of six points on their Californian road trip. Very nice!

Looks like Bernier's out indefinitely now. Reimer's starting for tomorrow's game.

    This is me, not worrying.

I'm not a huge hockey fan but since I'm in New England I'm rockin' with the Bruins winning 8 straight!
