Interestingly, but maybe not surprisingly, the songs they chose have become pop culture icons of themselves, for better or for worse. Not at all representative of the worst of the worst, I don't think, because if they were we wouldn't be hearing them now as much as we still do.

The only one that I would call "Bad" from the list is "My heart will go on". DOn't hate just because it is catchy.

The songs on that list are all pretty dreadful. I would have a softer spot for tubthumping if it hadn't been overplayed so much. It's not a bad song, it's okay, really. I just can't bare to hear it played anymore.

All of that said, I am sure if I put my mind to it, I could come up with a much better list of crap songs. The pop machine grinds out so many crappy songs, it's like shooting fish in a barrel.

Yes, but in being bad they're perfectly good. Most of those songs are exactly what they're trying to be. This list is like going to Mcdonald's and calling it the worst restaurant in the world. My answer would be yes in a vacuum it has bad food but they're not the worst restaurant because you're getting exactly what you expect.

  7. I can't believe I haven't responded to this yet.

All I really want to say is that Ace of Base is my least favorite band EVER! I was sad that "All that She Wants" and ESPECIALLY "The Sign" are not on this list!

Now Barbie Girl is in my head.

If intentionally bad is allowed on this list, the "Little Pig, Little Pig" by Green Jello/Jelly at least deserves a mention. I can't help but do the voices when I read that story to the kids.

I'd like to throw in that music being objectively terrible is no reason to dislike it.

Very true. I like the Spice Girls as pure bubble gum pop music but there is little reason to actually like them artistically. I just like the harmonies they have and the songs are catchy. Of course I have not played any of those songs in umpteen years though.

Um, if that's the way you need to think about it.
I don't think of them as good in any way.

I don't give a fuck what all y'all say. I don't give a fuck what Rolling Stone says...

Linda Perry is a fucking genius. (And hot.)

I will never understand the appeal of Robbie Williams. He gives me nothing but the creeps.

Agreed with most of the list, excepts What's Up, and tubthumping. I like those tunes. The rest make me physically ill to hear.

I liked What's Up. For me hands down the worst song of the 90s was Sex and Candy by Marcy Playground. Hated that song the first time I heard it and have hated it since.

Most of the music in the 90s was terrible, though it was better than the crap that has been coming out recently.

  19. My eldest was pre-teen/teenager through the 90s. My other kids were toddler thru pre-teen. I did my best to educate their musical palate: Beatles/Who/Zeppelin/Orbison etc. with a healthy dose of Bach, Beethoven, Mozart and such. Still, I got exposed to the Grunge and Pop of the 90s a little bit. Looking back, there was some entertainment to be found. I didn't mind when the kids played Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Live or a few others.

This thread induced me to Yahoo (http://new.music.yahoo.com/videos/44649266;_ylt=Aofndb5AMHnd7z1H5VXES0U0tCUv?cat=44649266&page=1). Yikes! Quite a bit of that stuff would leave me begging for a lobotomy!

Agreed- the recent stuff is even worse than anything the 90's produced.

Now the 80's? That was some quality stuff!
