1. We've had very few donations over the year. I'm going to be short soon as some personal things are keeping me from putting up the money. If you have something small to contribute it's greatly appreciated. Please put your screen name as well so that I can give you credit. Click here: Donations

I love New Year's. Not for the holiday itself, but because I'm getting paid stupid money right now to sit on my couch and do not a damn thing.

We had friends over and played board games last night, because we're exciting like that. We realized that midnight had passed about fifteen minutes after the fact.

I use New Year's Eve as an antidote to Christmas, which for me involves lots of tedious family commitments. New Year's Eve I spend with my wife and friends, the people I chose to be close to.

Meh, only one "New Year" comes to mind as being special. I would guess it was my Sophomore year of High School, I was at the Roller Rink for a lock in and a girl I had the hots for BIG TIME came to the door, I went over, and we talked for a bit and while we were talking the clock struck midnight, and she gave me a kiss to remember forever. It was just a kiss although I had hoped it was more. Every year it comes to mind. Hell I don't even know what became of her.

Me? Oh, I never turn down an opportunity to punch something in the face, even if it's at the last minute and for no good reason.

As such, I always make sure to throw one more quick jab to the nose of the outgoing year to let it know who's the fuckin' boss.

I did a lot with 2013. I'm better for it. 2014 is pretty much quaking in its floral print granny panties. I love me some New Year's.

I think I would care about New Year's more if I had people to party with. I like watching the different Times Square coverages on TV, and I'll make a little toast, but other than that, it's just another reminder of another year survived, and another year closer to becoming an "adult". I stopped making resolutions years ago, after I realized I was making the same resolutions every year, and that it was a pointless endeavour.

I also think I'd like it more if the U.S. did fireworks. Come on, U.S., get with the rest of the world. No one cares about a shiny ball. Explosions are where it's at.

  9. Hey, I remembered to put the correct year on documents today. 2014 is already a success!

I remembered this post today while filling out paperwork at the urgent care for my flu shot, so I dated everything correctly... Thus making this new year awesome so far :)

  11. I like celebrating the New Year and packing away the old year. I'd say that 2013 wasn't the best professionally, but awesome personally. I believe 2014 will be the best year of my life and I will have a sweet baby girl to show for it. Taking a moment to reflect on all of this is good for my soul.

I also like lists. I make lists. I process data through lists. The end of one year and the beginning of another brings about lists upon lists. The best or worst of your interests in 2013. Plans for 2014. All fun lists to see and create.

Becoming a mother will undoubtedly make me a better person. I see no need in resolving to better myself. There are things I plan to let go of in order to make that possible. BabySquirrel will always come first and DaddySquirrel a very close second.

I think it also plays into the little quarks I have. I must start things at the beginning. I must have closure.

Somebody needs to write a song, other than that Auld Lang Sine or what-have-you. It reminds me of a funeral dirge and sets me off - feeling sad about the passage of time instead of inspired by the newness and impending possibilities. I want a new happier song. I hate that one.

I like celebrating the New Year in large part thanks to the freedom and flexibility to choose how and with whom I can spend it. 2013-2014's New Year passage was unmistakably better than 2012-2013's for many reasons, and that's really all that matters to me.
