Fidelity is easy / infidelity is hard

Yep, but when you're married to an irrational person that you can no longer communicate with about your problems - that grass on the other side of the fence is mighty enticing.

Has anyone addressed emotional infidelity? That's a slippery slope there - even if it never is more than that and doesn't turn into anything physical. I won't say it's worse than drunk fucking a co-worker...or maybe it is because it involves your mind and not just your body. So yeah, keep the lines of communication open.

Certainly. We've had posters show up here and post questions about "Hey, how's the best way to cheat on my frigid partner?" It totally read like: "I'd rather cheat on them than talk to them; they're that intimidating/frustrating."

Mmm, I think it is worse than drunkfuckery, but emotional stuff is difficult to measure. Who among us hasn't been temporarily infatuated with an attractive coworker? I guess the line-not-to-cross is how occupied you are and how it affects your relationship with your current partner. If my partner wants to slish it up thinking about the produce guy at the grocery store, it isn't a whole lot different than some celebrity. The fun ends when I get a hang-up call on the land line at 3 AM.

I agree with Borla, and Plan9. I've seen some married men & women who will immediately go after some strange at every chance, but for the most part the affairs appear to develop over time.

Life can take you many directions. Based on how and where you work and socialize, infidelity can be easy or hard.

I can say in my entire time with my wife, I've never had a woman overtly try to tempt me in that direction, and I don't have a job where I'm on long road trips or the like where it can just happen "naturally". So for me fidelity would be easy. Infidelity would be hard because I'd have to work at it. It would be a project and a half to hide it from my wife, one shes smart, two she controls the money, three she knows my hobbies, and four my work hours are set with no travel.

I would just like to add that this thread is totally not complete without the following song playing in the background:

    ...

That tingle in your balls can be a great motivator. Don't discount it.

How does that make you feel? That sounds downright claustrophobic.

Temptation can only really exist when the opportunity is there. I'm curious: has anyone (married or partnered in any way) actually experienced someone deliberately trying to tempt you? I know it happens, but it seems to me that most people would shy away from someone they know is in a relationship. Without the actually opportunity, can it ever be more than an infatuation? Just curious.

Shit, I got hit on at the bar last Saturday while my husband was standing RIGHT BEHIND ME. This happens with a fair amount of frequency.

I've been hit on before a few times. I used to get quite a bit of play during the short period I was toting a big gray metal band on the appropriate finger.

Wedding rings on young guys? It's like catnip for saucy wenches.

I think the flirting women do to guys at bars / grocery stores / gun shops is just playful banter and may not be all, "Hey, I like your shoes, wanna fuck?"

I like flirting with women but I enjoy it because I work to make sure it isn't taken seriously.

Some men, on the other hand, typically look at dancing as a way to get their crotch on target.

I understand, but do you think there's a gender difference, @snowy? Isn't it more likely that an attractive woman would be hot on than a married guy? It just strikes me that women would be far less likely to hit on a married man. But, I haven't had much experience with it, so in clearly not an expert.

Age may have a lot to do with it (speaking as a dinosaur). But do you think that women see married men as "safe," making the flirting really harmless in their eyes?

If I were hard up sure, but I'm not ;)

Awesome, being I don't have to deal with mundane shit. A good marriage is a true partnership, if I can't trust her, then I shouldn't be married to her.

Only if combined with table push aways and fork put downs.

She's observant, controls the money, monitors your free time activities and work hours... what's she do for a living? And does it involve tarps, ponchos and fire axes?

Do you ever feel like a kept manchild?

    ...

I do. Just as many married guys see flirting with married women as safe. It's a way to boost your self-esteem and have it boosted all in a single-serving encounter.

Hey, it isn't trolling if I'm envious.

And you could have gone the funny route with your answer--always the best choice on TFP.

There is a certain segment of the female population that this is VERY true for.

Well, that's a given. I don't know too many dudes that crush the iron and then hit up a case of Natty Ice for a cool-down.
