"Unconventional" Holiday Movies

Discussion in 'Tilted Entertainment' started by ZombieSquirrel, Nov 25, 2013.

  1. Sure you can watch It's a Wonderful Life or Miracle on 34th Street, but what's the fun in that? Die Hard has a wonderful Christmas theme to it and so does Gremlins.

What movies do you watch over the holidays that may not be a "true" holiday movie, but invoke the same warm and squishy feelings that White Christmas may?

Come December 1, I am going to get myself into the Christmaskwanzakuh mood. I welcome your suggestions of Unconventional Christmas Movies to lift my holiday spirits!

GeneticShift Show me your everything is okay face.

    I love Bad Santa.
If you want some young Robert Downey Jr, I love Kiss Kiss Bang Bang. Mmmm, holiday murders.
    Batman Returns is pretty classic.
Love Actually is one of the few cheesy love movies I enjoy. It makes me tear up and feel like I have a soul.
Home Alone is the clear winner. Christmas alone with booby traps. I can watch this every day and never get bored.
While You Were Sleeping - A Sandy B classic. My mom and I love this movie
Jingle All the Way - An AAHHNOOLDDD classic. We watched this in school all the time around Christmas.

The Ref will always be my favorite christmas movie.
Then there is Scrooged. Bill Murray fabulous.
And my daughter's boyfriend introduced me to the movie Rare Exports. It's pretty fucking Christmas-y, alright.

A war movie, yes. A Christmas movie, yes indeed. Actually one of the best I've ever seen....

    I watch it every year.

Bad Santa rules my world, and I am a total sucker for Love Actually.

I'll be back if and when I think of any more.

I make it a point to watch Love, Actually every year...the others are more traditional (like Scrooged and the Grinch.) I also watch the Buffy Christmas episode every year :)

Oh, and Edward Scissorhands. Forgot about that one.

Oh, I like Scrooged a lot too. No Christmas is complete without Chevy Chase and Bill fucking Murray.

I always forget Go is set during Christmas. I might have to add that to my list this year.

And a more recent addition for me, but Nightmare Before Christmas is a must.

I liked Love Actually the first time I saw it. The second time it felt like being hugged too closely by a hooch-happy alcoholic.
I have a copy of it here if anyone wants it. :p

Not really for kids nor for adults. Only die hard Adam Sandler fans should attempt this one.

I am a big fan of Die Hard and Die Harder... great Christmas movies.

Other than those, I concur with other here: Scrooged is great.

Though many may disagree, I've always thought of It's a Wonderful Life as and unconventional holiday movie. It's only really a "holiday" movie in the sense that the climax occurs on Christmas Eve. It only became a Christmas staple while the copyright issue was up in the air.

I like that one overall. Definitely under the "different" category.

The Riggs character is the peak so to speak of his suicidal/psychotic behaviour in the first one and more interesting in my opinion.
