This is a funny statement in this thread, because probably half of the discussions about feminism I've read online descend into squabbling about the meaning of words and terms.

Wow, you have quite a memory. I believe I was referring to my sexual activity at that time. Please feel free to continue tracking everything I say at various times on the board. I'm getting old, I need the reminders.

Just to be clear. That statement was towards me and people who somehow had developed a bad or wrong impression about the term feminism.

No, I didn't suggest any equivalency. I have acknowledged multiple times that, in the realm of employment, women are overall getting the short end of the stick than men. However, I am saying that there are currently some, limited areas/cases where women have the advantage over men. It's not a black/white situation as some purport it to be.@arkana seems to think it's unnec

I don't know what makes women have a higher tendency than men to pick part-time work. I'm also not about to simply make assumptions in favor of one group of the debate. If there are arguments you guys have on the topic of women and -part-time work, then make the case.

And even if I did propose that there was equivalency, "I have nothing more to add" doesn't seem to be the appropriate response to that within a discussion. I understand that most people in this thread blindly applaud any argument made to show the plight of women's victimhood, but let's not assume a position and expect everyone else to blindly acknowledge its validity, yes?

Absolutely, ma'am. Please feel free to continue to make inane declarations about your sex life so I can track everything you say and always be able to counter other silly statements of yours. Young blood is perfect for stalking activities, after all.

Either way, let's end this stupidity here.

    You're so sensitive.

Came across this a few minutes ago, and thought it was interesting. I don't think all of these clips are good examples (if Miley and Rhianna want to show off their ass, whatever; I think one of the news clips was a satire bit; and who takes the Onion seriously?), but overall, a nice little summary.

@Cinnamongirl , nice that you brought this up. I recently wanted to start a thread about how women are portrayed in Western media/by Hollywood.

Maybe I'll do it later today. :)

Please enlighten us as to why you think feminism is unnecessary then.

Fastest contradiction EVER. You assume women are "picking" these jobs. I think many of them would prefer full time work but must take the part time positions available.

When exactly did I say that?

What contradiction? "Picking" is a perfectly reasonable assertion to make in the Western context, where people directly apply for positions in companies and then choose the best-fitting offer. Show me data that a widespread practice exists where companies forcefully employ women in positions they don't want, and coerce them to continue working, and then I'll change my description.

Nevertheless, it's a much bigger assumption to believe that the majority of women doing part-time work have been forced into it.

You're going nowhere with this contradiction stuff.

You don't need to say it. Almost every position you have taken here undermines the need for a feminist movement.

    Please unpack the word "assumption".

Enlighten me as to your definition of "contradiction".

Another video I found today. It's long, but worth it, I think. I found the bit about blind orchestra auditions and women in forensic science especially interesting.

I still need to watch Cinna's videos but in the meantime, I found this (by accident).

I'm not great at the type of pick-pick-picking being done by some here on the topic of being a woman. I don't wish to run to Wikipedia to be able to cite facts and figures. My personal experience differs from other women in many ways but there are commonalities including soul-crushing expectations like this young woman poet describes of her own. Yes, she is obviously western and wealthy--that misses the larger point. It's only a few minutes and it is real and relevant.

Wait. So I mention multiple times that I'm new to discussions of gender issues, question the validity of pro-feminism statements made during the course of these discussions, and then you conclude that I don't believe there is a need for a feminist movement?

Or did my pointing out of several things that give the feminist movement a bad name rub you the wrong way?

Is this another "dissenters are enemies" situation?

Regardless, it is good to know what you, @Fangirl and @snowy falsely believe to be correct impressions of my stance.

Again, not impressed with the way you conduct a discussion.

I haven't asserted a position on the necessity of the feminist movement in this thread, but you guys go on and continue with your bullshit interpretations.

Holy crap, the stubbornness of some people on here is beyond stupid.
