Gary Kubiak is back home. Reports are he won't be at work this week, a VERY wise decision IMO; blowing off a TIA is a bad idea (ask me about my FIL). I haven't heard any word re the upcoming game.

It came across today that Phillips is the interim HC until further notice.

Yep. For how long is the big question.

Hopefully the Texans will go with the idea of moving the ball and scoring some points...for the entire game.

Mentioning questionable decisions by the Texans--Randy Bullock, literally the worst FG kicker in the NFL, has kept his job. Seriously? WTF? Reports are the Texans tried out three kickers, all former Texans if I understood the news story correctly. They couldn't entice any other kickers to try out? Did they even make the effort?

Wade Phillips made the announcement, it sounded as though the decision was his. He said that Bullock was told that he has to make the FGs. He had to make that clear to a veteran kicker? Well shit, Wade, do you know why you're not a HC (interim doesn't count) in the NFL? Please stick with the defense, and while there close the holes in the secondary, if you need a clue watch the second half of the Cotls game.

OK, I've taken out some frustration on Wade. Yes, he's in a tough position, but he has clearly made at least one blunder.

Contact the Texans. After the next game you might get a free RT ticket to Houston :D .

    Lol

I'm listening to sports radio today and the question is, if you have a hundred million dollar quarterback is it fair to blame him if the team sucks. They are referring to Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons because I do live outside of Atlanta its funny to hear people call in with some stupid shit.

I didn't get to see the entire thing, but I've seen/heard bits of it throughout the day.

I started out thinking this was 100% on Incognito and he was the worst type of trash.

Now, while I still think he is a scumbag, I think there is some shared blame with the coaches and the organization.

It is interesting to listen to former players talk about this. I've found that most of the ones who were very successful (i.e. lots of Super Bowls, played on lots of winning teams, were considered good leaders, etc.) are condemning it. They are basically saying "sure, some things are said that the public would think were horrible, but no GOOD team had that level of hazing/bullying/whatever going on, and the best players and coaches I was surrounded with never would've allowed it". To me, that seems to fit. Everyone seems to say Incognito has always been like this. And if you look, he was thrown out of school, had to change colleges multiple times, has been on several NFL teams, and has never really been on a successful team. Maybe he is always like this. Maybe some people do think it has a place in football locker rooms (I don't). But it sure doesn't seem to breed SUCCESS, let alone being reasonable way to treat teammates.

  11. Seems to go against everything related to "team building" that has ever been taught anywhere.

In other news: The Lions were given a great gift by the Bears coaching staff. Leaving Cutler in so long when he was quite obviously hobbling basically cost Chicago the game. Not complaining. Thank you very much!

Agreed. You could tell cutler was hurting. He only left cause he hurt his ankle...

After the interview incognito let jay glazer read the texts between him and martin and one of them said that he didn't blame anyone on the team.

Yet again another 'almost' performance from the Texans. I keep telling myself to just let this season go, and see what transpires in the offseason (new coach? retooled offense? improved secondary? better offensive line? new kicker?).
Andre Johnson may've lost a step (not a criticism, 11 years in the NFL will take a toll on any receiver), but he made two spectacular TD grabs. His performance last week was overshadowed by Kubiak's collapse. I hope Hopkins & Posey are learning something from Johnson. Maybe the offensive line will learn to pickup the blitz. Bullock didn't suck (he didn't get many chances to suck), the blocked FG wasn't his fault, somebody completely blew a blocking assignment.

On a positive note--The Saints beat the crap out of the cowgirls, the whiney-ass 'girls fans have no excuses. Not that it matters since most cowgirls fans disappear like farts when the 'girls lose. If the 'girls weren't in such a pathetic division their playoff hopes would be pretty slim.

What's up with the Dolphins/Martin/Incognito? The scant info I've heard would indicate that the Dolphins took a make-or-break (not anticipating an actual breakdown) policy with Martin and Incognito was the enthusiastic drill sergeant.

As you've pointed out, teams don't like to fire coaches midseason. Yes, I know the question was rhetorical.

What's going to happen with Kubiak? A timely resignation might be best. Kubiak saves face (his health concerns are very real) while McNair & Smith don't look cold-hearted. I can see Kubiak landing on his feet, and having a great career as HC, provided he learns from his mistakes in Houston--Don't let loyality to coaching staff (Bush, now Dennison) and players (Schaub) get in the way of making needed changes.

Ed Reed getting cut by the Texans today. Supposedly at least in part for commenting that they've been getting out coached.

In the local media Reed has been referred to as "the seven million dollar mistake." His comments (the truth) didn't help his situation, but basically the Texans are taking a $$$ hit up front rather than keeping a player who is clearly past his prime.

Some members of the local media are calling for Rick Smith's head; that's the stupidest knee-jerk reaction I've yet heard re the Texans' implosion. Has Smith made some mistakes? Yes, but he's also done a great job of finding good players who flew under the radar in the drafts and around the league.

It would be just my luck as a Texans fan and a cowgirls hater McNair would sack Smith, and jackass jerry would suddenly see the light and hire Smith as GM. Nobody employable elsewhere and/or in their right mind would want to work for jackass jerry, but the man is willing to pay dearly for what he wants. IIRC he overpaid Garrett to stick around while Jones waited for Phillps to stumble. I'm not saying Garrett didn't deserve a shot as HC, or that Wade didn't deserve to be fired, but it couldn't have been easy to coach knowing that the owner was following you with an axe in his hands.

But why sign reed in the first place. He's 34 years old and clearly past his prime

I believe going into this season the Texans expected to compete for the AFC Championship. They probably figured that he would add some leadership and experience, as well as depth. He also probably expected a shot at another ring.

Obviously when things started going sideways both parties ended up frustrated with each other.
