    What, the hippie dude?
Pretty sure he'll show up...maybe he and Carol can start a new tribe.

In developing the characters this season some of the changes are jarring--even if "X" amount of time has passed (they we didn't see). Instead of growing, they seem more Jekyl-Hyde--like Michonne. When she smiles, it creeps me out because she never smiled before, then she defaults to her surly look and it's just weird.

Carol--I don't even know what to say. They could have had her be tough without being compassionateless but they seem to insinuate that the seed of her of lack empathy for others came before the apocalypse as a horribly abused wife. So there was no saving her, no redemption? It was a very quick downward spiral as far as what played out on our TV screens.

Rick is back to being the Ricktator. It seems he's got only two modes: farmer or ruler/cop. And the farmer is gone, probably forever.

WTF. Did someone piss someone off??

Well Hell, so Rick kicks out Carol for having the same attitude as what his son does??

She was the only one who wasn't boring who didn't constantly put herself at risk at the same time.

Eh, she probably pissed off the producers...that's the only reason someone is written off so fast.
    From, Practical level-headed compassionate teacher/healer.
Bam, murderer. (oh yeah, not just any murder...but has to kill loved ones before their time and burn them to a crisp)
    Bam, exile

What the hell is Darryl going to do?
Correct Rick on his decision?...go off to find her, like he did his brother?

Not a spoiler since it already aired. It's a comment or review. You watched it in real time as did I (sorta). :)

Melissa McBride (Carol) did not "piss off" the producers. She was a huge cheerleader for the show. Why they did what they did is anyone's guess. I'm thinking the now-expanded cast meant trimming of members that were not fan favourites, though credit to the actress, she took a thankless role and made the most of it.

McBride was cast by the original showrunner, Frank Darabont, and they've killed off almost all his hires/real-life friends: Dale, Andrea, Lori, and now effectively, Carol. McBride's most current interview indicates that they have let her go and that if she were to return it will be as much of a surprise to her as to us.

Sorry, I just don't want to spoil it for anyone who may have DVR'd it or is watching it on demand.
But I guess in a discussion thread, you'd have to deal with it if it's run already...otherwise you'd have no discussion.

Well, I guess if you want to save on staffing...run a zombie show...they'll eat the costs. Heh.

I have another link, which one of the producers give some insight into the characters' thinking in this.
I guess it was a shock to everyone, since it's being discussed...and not just by us. -- LINK

Well, I guess if Rick can go through a phase where he's saving everyone,
then go through one ignoring everyone...then he can go through one where he's pushing everyone away.

Only, again...he's pushing away those who are capable. But letting in those who are vulnerable.

And why can't these people think with some survival beyond the basics.
You live in a prison...close the friggin' STEAL door when you sleep. Hey, guess what, you're less likely to be attacked while you're dreaming.

And can't anyone make a brick anymore??? Not that hard, they did it back in the old days.
Bricks can be built up as a base support to the fence. Oh yeah, they can have holes in them...so you can jab walkers through them too.
A nice leaning stack can also be walked on from above...so you can attack even hostiles.

Does anyone remember aquaducts??? I'm sure there's a stream nearby. Zombies don't attack water.
Just build it one part at a time...get water of some volume there....You CAN purify it.

It's like they've decided to never take a bath again.

Sure, Rick is good with his "morals" and gun...but what they really need is someone like the professor on Gilligan's Isle.
But they'd probably allow him to get himself killed too.

Can't someone just setup a simple generator??
Get a computer going...use an old Encylopedia on a CD like they had in the 90's

Or even go to a library or book stores...they still have those...pick up a "How To" book.
Funny thing about books, they don't go bad like meds and food.
And they're still finding those...so I'm sure they can find books.

But enough bitchin'...I still tune in. It's like watching wreck.
Maybe it's like why people watch those damn reality shows.

Actually I hear the show is a big hit in China. Somehow translates well.

What if Carol runs into the governor and they become good friends. Remember, they don't know what each other look like.
    or Morgan for that matter...

I would welcome back Carol in any way. I liked that she went from mousey to a survivor. She made a bad choice (maybe) but did it out of concern for the group. That dumb Bob Stookey help take down the entire "Big Spot," killing Beth's bf and almost killing everyone else and making sure they got no supplies--just so he could get some booze--no consequences for him--yet. By banishing Carol, Rick sentenced her to death--unless she can find a good group to take her in.
I would love to see Morgan again--under any circumstances.

I do know that the set design and building peeps wanted to make a moat around the "prison" but once they started digging found actual quicksand--which sounds great on paper but the insurance company wouldn't go for it.

I agree with pretty much all you've said. Ya know, Hey Carol, you can fix a dislocated shoulder!? Get out!
The Ricktator is back, full throttle and he himself says he made terrible choices when he last was in charge. Maybe they should give Carl a go at running things.
It is a train wreck but I love the craftsmanship in the zombie effects and that the actress playing Michonne is wielding her own katana sword and riding her own horse. There are some compelling aspects of the show--like Daryl in any scene.:D

Actually, it is a great show for moral relativism.

Everything is not black & white.
    Everyone is not perfect.
And sometimes your ideals will get you killed...or at least put you in a worse situation.

And it fluctuates daily...if not minute by minute.

I'm surprised the writers have let Herschel live this long.

They probably got him on the cheap...

Still, there's no telling who or when anyone comes and goes.
Hell, even they they die...they can come back. (looking a "little" worse for wear...)

Scott Wilson, the veteran character actor, for cheap? Maaay-be.
Herschel is my favourite character or at last was in season 3. Not sure that his save everyone at all costs attitude is really helping this season.
That said , I'm afraid he won't make it past the end of the first half of season 4. You guys know that TWD only goes for 8 episodes then takes a break until 2014, then resumes with 8 episodes, right? (I keep forgetting.)

  13. Article on children in zombie flicks and Frankenstein.

I like that the Walking Dead is a bit more realistic than the zombie movies I've seen. However, last night I was thinking that there are still very few zombie children in the series. It opened up with a zombie girl and then there was Sophia. I don't recollect seeing too many other children as zombies in all the heards. Then I thought...kids probably don't fight off the zombies well enough to escape with just a bite or scratch. They probably get eaten in whole. Especially since they are smaller. A baby would just be an appetizer for a zombie. There really wouldn't be enough left over to turn zombie. And if they died in a crib, I doubt a zombie baby could get out of the crib and is probably still there.

Also, parents are probably REALLY over protective of their young. Carol took in two girls as well and was very protective of them. People may fight harder to save children from becoming zombies.

But still...you think you'd see more zombie kids....

Things I think about when watching TWD. Along with why the lawns look so nice and roads are so free of debris.

None of the animals are zombies. It's a human conditions/virus. So far.

Well, Hershel was pretty amazing last night, but did much of what he did make sense? Dr. S., in his last gasps, told Hershel to triage and save those that were least worse off and let those in end-stage like the doc die--and FFS! close the jail cell doors! But no, Hershel held out the same kind of hope he did when he kept his zombified family, friends and neighbours in his barn. That that worked out really well, too. <sarcasm>
At least some of the carnage could have been avoided if the jail cell doors were properly closed, specifically the (female?) walker on the lower level attacking and the healthy male getting bit and accidentally shooting/killing a healthy/ non-zombie woman. It was also probably foolish to ignore Glenn's concerns about how long they should continue to keep almost-dead patients alive, as the effort to do so almost killed Glenn and almost got both Lizzie and Hershel bitten.
So despite the actor's (Scott Wilson) strong performance, much of what Hershel did was heroic, but stupid.

Yeah it's amazing they're still not keeping the cell doors closed on a more regular basis. I mean when Herschel walks past the dead blonde lady's cell and doesn't close the door because he's distracted by Tyreese's sister being on the ground, you knew something bad was going to happen. It only takes one second to close a door and he got sloppy.

But then again if they did keep the doors shut, most of the chaotic action in Hershel's wing last night would not have happened. So I guess the characters will keep "forgetting" to keep the doors shut as a plot device.
