Is anyone watching the "Masters of Sex" series on Showtime?
A docudrama on the sex studies of Masters & Johnson.

I find it interesting...not just to see what it takes to do a study on sex.

But I'm also fascinated for the moral relativism.

What is comfortable for one...is uncomfortable for another.
What one knows sexually...doesn't automatically transfer to another.
    And so on...

    I've always found it interesting.
Why does it have to be so complicated?? (and sometimes it doesn't...)

And actually...that's cool too, trying to find a baseline, a pattern...for scientific purposes,
    in something SO inconsistent.

And to have done this study in such a prudish time...not like now.
But then again, we have them to thank for helping us get to now. (The web would be different)

    ---------

They're doing an excellent job so far.
Can't be shy being a cast-member on this show.

I can't comment on the program, no cable or satellite TV here. Seriously, TV isn't that importnat to me or my wife.

I've always admired the pioneer and other early sex researchers. Sex has been , and still is to a certain extent, taboo and controversial in the US; it took some serious backbone to broach such a subject.

I really want to watch it, but I don't have Showtime. I grew up fascinated with the work accomplished by Masters and Johnson. I'll get my hands on it somehow ;)

Well, I figure if quite a few can watch "Game of Thrones" and "Homeland", then this one would be legit.
But I guess it needs to be distributed a bit more first.

I've never understood why so many have hang ups on it.
Put such an onus on it.
Even the experts are often like fish out of water as they acclimate themselves to certain ideas around it.

You don't have to be an extremist to just let go of the taboo.

It's a great examination of the whole thing.

I loved the scene where one of the study subjects has had a bad night, and screams "Why won't my dick work?!!"
And the whole subtle gestures of the characters leading up to it. (even those watching it...)

I ended up watching the first episode last night, and it was good. But, I don't know why they didn't hire some porn actors and actresses to have hardcore sex scenes.

Maybe for the main characters they wouldn't have wanted to. They could have also used a stunt vagina and penis for them. But, I'm pretty sure that the volunteer girl could be played by someone who has already made a few porn videos. Maybe not a really well known one, but with the number of people used to watching on-line porn where they show everything, a movie that is about uncensored sex research shouldn't hold back.

I really don't think they hold back, at least for Showtime "levels".
It's just that they are focused on the conflict and confusion people have about sex...and the interpersonal relationships related to them.

Makes me wonder how we continued through the generations with all the stupidity of sexual relations...and misinformation about it.

Take a look at what is on TV in 'progressive' foreign countries.

NSFW, but a uncensored look at sex and the reality of it.

This is a objective look at this TV show and the criticism it has received in the press.

Masters of Sex is one of those shows where it would be OK to push the boundaries of sex on TV in the USA and mix it into a good portrayal of history. And while the US culture has progressed on being open about sex more than it was in the 50's, I'm pretty sure what is happening behind closed doors is much more hardcore than what you can see on TV. And by not talking about it, it leads to problems like this:

ooo...it just got a bit more heated.
    Masters & Johnson...crack the wall.

But actually, it's fascinating to see them discuss ideas that many of us just take for granted now.
But ironically, many still have trouble understanding and dealing with.

I wonder how long it will take for most of the world to simply take sex as it is.
Get educated on what to do and what works.
And stop being as titillated. (uhhh...he said "tit", he, heh, heh  )

  16. Following in the footsteps of Havelock Ellis, the well known sexologist. He never managed to get his junk working till he was 60.
Do you think thats what drives em all?

I almost never cringe. You just earned yourself a beer for that one. That was so awful that TFP grandchildren will be making the Mr. Yuck face.

Thanks, @Plan9:) As an incorrigible punster I'll accept a cringe as a high compliment. Even higher than a groan.

We starting to get into new territory.
I wonder if M&J would value the sociological aspect of our perverted board?
