Halloween 2013

It's almost that time of year, less than a week until Halloween!

Personally, I love Halloween. It's fun, there aren't any expectations of presents, family get togethers, church, so on.

This year, I'm going as Pam from Archer.

    (for the uninformed)

I wanted something funny and easy that I already had most of the pieces of at home.

Thursday night, I'm probably helping pass out candy to the kids, since I work all day and will be working Friday morning.

The weekend after Halloween, a friend of mine is having a party, where we will again be matching (she will be the Cheryl to my Pam), and we will once again defend our Halloween beer pong champ title.

    I'm so excited!

Are you a Halloween fan? What are you going as? What are your traditions? Any big plans?

  2. I LOVE IT!

Pam is my favorite and I find myself saying Cheryl things ALLLLL the time. "YOU'RE NOT MY SUPERVISOR!!!"

I bought a shirt to wear to work on Halloween....

It's sort of morbid, but I still like it. My baby skeleton has a little pink bow since it's a girl. I kind of regret doing that because my baby will probably not wear much pink and gender stereotypes...blah..blah..blah. She does have a Bengals Bow though. ;-)

I'm hoping my bell rounds out a little more over the week so my costume looks a little more legit. Going as a Pumpkin Thief. It's not really a costume since I'm a Klepto and stole about 5 pumpkins last year while "camping" near a pumpkin patch near Oktoberfest.

  4. TIL: Pam is a dolphin proctologist

  5. I NEED THAT!

It looks super comfy and I would never want to take it off. I want the Totoro slippers.

BabySquirrel's room MIGHT morph into a Totoro theme. It's going to be a woodland theme, but I keep finding adorable Totoro items that would look cute.

There's also a Pikachu suit and DaddySquirrel has a thing for Pikachu....I'd be afraid to get that one and create some weird fetish for him.

    YAY HALLOWEEN!!!! I LOVE IT!

I love Halloween, it's my favorite holiday.

But I'm in a mood this year, so no candy from the scary man this time.
And I'm not planning on going out.

So if I do something, it will be spontaneous.
And it will have to be one of those old-school spontaneous costumes. (Bum, Fangs, etc...)

Of course, I could always go as myself...so a Dork, Geek...or God of War.

Boyfriend is a lumberjack. He grew out a beard for the costume.

I decided to be a unicorn this year, which is apparently the least original idea in Columbus this year, judging by how many unicorns were at Highball Halloween last night. Sigh. I'll hopefully have pictures after a party we go to tonight!

I was only dressing up for a dog costume parade, so costume had to be family friendly. I went as a tooth fairy, until the "h" came off my shirt at the beginning of the event. Then, I was christened the toot fairy.

Flat tire on the way to Michigan for the party means no party and no pictures tonight. :(

I was a Halloween fan from ages about 4 -11. At 12 -15 I liked handing out candy as I lived in a house with a neighbourhood. Left home at 18 and didn't do much for H'ween until my 1st son was three y.o. 8 years later. By then I lived in the slums in an apt. so I took him to the fancy side of town where he got full-size treats. Score.
Son #2 got into H'ween when son 1 was outgrowing it. We lived in an apt then but not in the slums and w/ no trick or treaters. We only had to walk 2 blocks to get great treats as well as enjoy very fancily-decorated homes so again, score.
Today: No more small kids, live in a condo, so no trick or treaters. The town restricts trick or treating hours, too.
I do not dress up for H'ween. I don't get it. A costume party any time of the year-- cool but not for me on H'ween. It's for the kiddos and I've had my turn(s). Putting on makeup is no novelty; I do it each day and I can play dress up, too-- whenever. Don't need to wear a costume to be goofy.
(I love, love, love goin' to the pumpkin farm, though. Love having a horn o' plenty with multi-colored gourds spilling out, Indian corn hangin' on the door, etc.)

I never dress up for Halloween. But in the wee hours of last night I received a text message from my friend that included a picture of him in his Travis Bickle costume - the vigilante sequence. I swooned a little. Then I went back to sleep.

I don't even know what the Boo is going to be for Halloween. I am totally not involved. Her sister is helping her with her costume and she is going out with friends. I didn't realize last year that it would be the last Halloween trick-or-treating night I would ever have as a mother. That's it, it's over. It's kind of weird.

A friend invited me to a Halloween party last night, but I couldn't attend the whole thing since it conflicted with my orchestra's season opener. The friend encouraged me to come to the party after the performance, even though it wasn't going to end until close to 10 and she and her husband live about a twenty five minute drive from here. Knowing I'd have next to no time to change when I got home before leaving for their house, my lazy plan was going to be to go in concert dress as an out of work musician, violin in tow. Turns out I was too late, as guests were already leaving the party just as I'd gotten on the road, so I turned around and took the scenic route home.

I need to go get a pumpkin today.

Speaking of which, my friend runs this site and he is amazing, so you should check it out: Pumpkin Carving Patterns and Stencils - Zombie Pumpkins! - Home

I looooove Halloween, but I haven't done much the past few years. Our town apparently doesn't even HAVE trick-or-treat, which makes me sad...I always loved dressing up and handing out candy.

The lobby of the shop is decorated, though, and we will probably dress up on Thursday. I had originally planned to do Captain Malcolm Reynolds, since that was one of my DragonCon costumes...the pants ended up being ridiculous big on me, though, so unless I find another pair in the next few days, I'll just wear an orange shirt and a witch's hat to work.

Oh! Our local theatre is going a one-night showing of the original Halloween, so I'll go see that with some of my friends. I'm not a huge fan, but I feel the need to do something scary. I will also probably watch Hocus Pocus, the Halloween episodes of Buffy, and It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown in the next few days.

He hates holidays, and he hates costumes, though. I suggested something similar to this for Thursday:

That reminds me... I need to grab my "403 Forbidden" underwear when I go home for the holidays.

That's right... he hates cake, too. What about Halloween candy?

Peanut butter cups and Runts, yes. I MIGHT have been stealing from his candy drawer at work for the past couple months *whistles innocently*

I need to borrow someone's kid so I can get a Halloween candy stash. It's not as much fun if you just go to the store and buy it.

Edited to add: I recently found out my cousin's kid (two years old) is going as a can of Spaghetti-Os for Halloween. It is adorable and hilarious.
