Why do you hate me, travel gods? Last one off the plane... Had to sit in the back window seat by the toilets. Arrive at MIA. No car. No shuttle. I'm stuck in a cab listening to Paula Abdul in stupid traffic in Miami.
Ugh. This trip will be great, I'm sure, because the training is awesome, but, still. WTF?

I knew the importance of backups as far back as the early '90s. I don't care if you're 5 or 50, in this day and age, there is no excuse for not knowing that you need to back your shit up.

I mean, seriously, for small amounts of important data, it takes seconds to set up and it's free. (Not like the old days, yo.)

My bike's been in the shop since last Wednesday and won't be ready until Friday.

This is unacceptable. I'm going through withdrawal.

My desk still isn't here. I think Staples dropped the ball on my order that was likely supposed to have been next-day (i.e., Monday). I checked with them last night, and they seemed rather clueless as to what's going on with it, and the warehouse was closed at the time. The situation is probably now being checked on by a third associate (ostensibly) sometime today, but all I want right now is a proper place to sit with my computer so I can do work. I'm back down to one screen, and it's sitting on a couple of boxes full of books that I'd rather have unpacked right about now.

They should at least call me to let me know someone's doing something.

I'm usually pretty lenient about these things (I worked in corporate/chain retail for years), but there are certain thresholds to be mindful of, and at some point it does make sense to (respectfully) pester people until something gets done.

I am also going to pout at length because October, though still my favorite month by a mile, is being extremely uncooperative.

I just cancelled my hunting trip this weekend. My back is killing me and I don't think hiking up and down hills and ravines, then sitting in a tree stand all day, would be helpful. Boo.

My spouse is laid out with the ick (ppl at his work are sick). I've had a runny nose for two days but I'm refusing, REFUSING to get sick!

I do that a lot too. The only way I get sick is with my stomach. Because I am little careless about what I eat...

    Welcome to the insomniac's club.
If I had known how great it was to sleep through the night, I would have appreciated it. And then it stopped. If I can do 4 straight hours sleeping I'm super-excited.

I remember in HS and the first part of college I could sleep anytime. But for the last 15 or so years, it's just gotten worse. Lately I'm lucky to get 2 hours at a time. It's so hard to function in the real world feeling so exhausted all the time.

Yep. I hear you and sympathize. The only thing that saves me is the double sword of heart failure allowing me to have almost complete control of my schedule. Barring Really Important Stuff to do, I get up after being in bed for about 9 hours with a minimum of fully waking up 3X. Sometimes it's 6X. It is really hard to function well on fractured sleep.

While indeed it sucks about the HF - have several ppl in the fam with it (mostly manageable, though) it is GREAT to be able to create your own schedule. I'm able to do that to a degree as well. It sort of makes me feel at odds with the rest of the world, but I don't know how at this point I could survive a normal 9-5 job. Working from home and in a freelance role has afforded me lots of flexibility.

But I still long for a great nights sleep. I do get one every so often - when my body just finally gives in - but they're few and far between. I've not found any drugs that help very much.
