  4. Should be interesting. The Lions, at home, dominated for 3-1/2 quarters and appeared to have Cutler rattled. After both starting CBs were knocked out of the game and the Lions went "prevent" is when Sunday's game got dicey. The Bears are much better at Soldier Field.

I agree that panicking isn't necessary, but the Texans offense collaspsed under pressure during the last four regular season games last year (3-1), and appears to be doing the same this year. The QB question is a tough one, and there are no easy answers. As for Dennison, is he just a clipboard holder? Someone, maybe Kubiak, has to answer for zero in the second half, as well as the collapse last year.

The Texans clearly have the talent, now someone needs to figure out how to get the offense back on track. The rankings look good on paper, but the Texans are still 2-2.

I'd still argue that their two losses just happened to be against teams that are better. Especially the Seahawks one. The Texans are a decent team, but I don't think anyone outside of Texas expects them to be more than 9 wins or so. They are a borderline playoff team IMO.

They had the Hawks game all but locked up at 3-20 but let them back in. The Hawks don't exactly have a great record of coming back from the grave. So while I do like the fact the Hawks stuck in there (finally.) I think it was more like the Texans lost that game then the Hawks won it.

My DVR is on it's way back to Canada to be replaced as it went tits up this last Sunday, right during SNF. I now have a replacement or back up box hooked up that has no PVR and locks up every time I switch from a HD channel to a standard one. Every time It locks up I have to call Shaw and wait for them to reload some kind of software. Hopefully by Sunday I'll remember to stay with either HD or standard.

You know I never realized how often I use the PVR's features. Just watching a game or movie and being able to pause or do my own instant replay is sorely missed.

People in Texas got all hot and bothered over a football game, do tell.

There's the rub. The fans here expect a team with that much talent to do much better than sneaking into the playoffs. They were on fire last year, 11-1, then went 1-3 in the last four games (not 3-1 as I previously posted, oops). The loss to the Patriots was no surprise as the Pats are tough at home, the thorough ass kicking the Texans took was not expected.

No doubt the Seahawks are a good team, but the Texans choked and gave the game away. It's that kind of choking that has Texans' fans concerned.

Football in Texas is huge, although not to me. Hell, we get High School FB highlights on the local news, you'd think that the media in the fourth largest city in the USA could find some real news.

I think Tully Mars might've hit it on the head earlier. It's you crazy Texas football fans. :p Cowboys fans have overestimated the talent on their own teams for going on almost 20 years now. Instead of realizing their teams are "ok" to "fairly good" they think the talent is "awesome" and it's just under producing. When in reality, IMO, the talent isn't quite as good as they are thinking it is. The whole "things are bigger/better/we invented it" in Texas schtick becomes reality to them. I think the recent mild success the Texans have had is causing you Houston fans to start doing the same. ;)

I'm half busting your chops, but I think there is some truth to it.

Regardless, I hope they play good enough to make your season interesting. This weeks match-up should go a long way towards helping us figure out which team (SF or Hou) is not who we thought they might be. *cheers*

Lately I've found myself spending the night in cities I would not normally visit due to layover that turned into a hotel stay because of a missed connection. The local news covering Friday night HS football seems to be pretty common. For me it's kind odd to see a HS quarterback being followed off the field with adults approaching him for autographs.

There is certainly some truth to what you posted. Hey, if I can't take a little chop-busting, I should keep quiet :p.

Tully, I apologize for not qouting your posts, I need to figure out the 'multi-quote' function. I'm not surprised that other major cities also ignore real news in order to bring us HSFB reports (I've never done much travelling for business, & only a little for leisure). I can understand the popularity of HS FB as it affects the people close to the teams, but I really don't care to see & hear about it ad naseum on the local news.

Do NOT get me started on the dallas cowgirls, especially their obnoxious fans who live in Houston. I've had people call me a traitor to Texas because I like to ridicule the cowgirls. I sincerely hope that the 'girls remain mediocre for at least the next 50 years (way to go, jackass jerry, keep up the good work!). One thing that I'd love to see is jackass jerry try to move the cowgirls to a city outside of TX; hearing the whining from the cowgirls fans would be priceless!!!!. Of course that won't happen anytime soon, especially since jackass recently built an expensive shrine to himself.

I thought about creating a new thread for this and if there's enough commentary and interest, I'll split it out.

What a curious case of dumb the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Josh Freemen are. When I first heard that he'd overslept and missed the team photo, I wonder what he could have been thinking. Based on what's gone on in the last 2 weeks, I have to at least passingly wonder if someone didn't set him up to miss it.

If you haven't been following along, here's a decent article about most of the shenanigans to date:

Reports: Buccaneers Fined Josh Freeman Three Times Last Week

Let's start with the idea that, most likely, someone within the Buc's organisation is most likely in violation of the HIPPA statutes that protect patient confidentiality when they leaked the drug rumor. If I were Freeman, I'd have my lawyer on speed dial ready to file a suit against them for that as soon as they released me (which seems to be coming). There may be something in the CBA that precludes that or gives separate remedies, but maybe not.

And then there's the team fines. He's been fined for missing meetings and meeting with the press (more on that later). These are internal fines not imposed by the league, so the CBA says that they are not to be disclosed. Except they were.

It's not rare for players to have to get approval from the team before sitting down for a non-locker room/press conference. For 31 teams, that gets cleared by the press office. Except in Tampa Bay where it's the head coach.

There's even a rumor that the players vote for captains was rigged against Freemen, who was a captain. There are several players that suspect exactly that.

If I were a player and had any other sort of options as a free agent, I think that I'd bypass Tampa.

Aaaaaaand while I was writing this, Tampa released Freemen. Prepare to watch them try to screw him out of the money they owe him. You heard it here first.

This whole thing has been a mess all season. Schiano has looked horrible, as has the organization in general. 2-3 years ago I was a Josh Freeman fan. I really thought he could grow into being a very good QB, a guy you could build around. He had a very good season in 2010, he seemed very well spoken and intelligent in interviews, and I though it could be the start of a solid run. I don't know exactly what started it sideways (lack of talent around him didn't help, neither have the repeated OC and HC changes), but it seems obvious now that Schiano and Co have been working on smearing him since the beginning of the season. Maybe he's a bad dude and asked for some of it, it's hard to say. But right now nothing seems to clearly point at that. I put the vast majority of the blame on Schiano, who I think is in over his head in the NFL, and those that are supporting him.

FWIW, NFL contracts are non-guaranteed. All the Bucs owe him at this point is the balance of his 2013 salary. I can't see them being able to skip out on that, but we'll see.

Which is $6.2M. If they tell him in writing at the time of release that they're going to try to claw back some or all of the remainder, they can try. If they don't, according to the CBA, they have to pay him his money.

I can't imagine what Freeman could have possibly done barring sleeping Schiano's wife to warrant this kind of treatment. Mainly because by handling things this way, the Bucs completely screwed themselves since no GM, no matter how dumb, is going to give up anything at all for something that he can just get for free down the line.

Even if the team meeting absences are legit, I can't see anything that he's done to warrant more than some minimal fines. I think he'll get paid the $6.2M. If they fight him on it, they are just going to continue digging a hole for themselves in the FA market, which they already did with the way they handled the MRSA stuff earlier in the year.

And I agree, taking pot-shots at him and making him look bad was a horrible strategy. They should've kept their mouths shut and quietly taken offers for him. I think they could've at least gotten a middle round pick for him.

One of the things Freeman's agent has said is that at least one (possibly more) of those missed meetings were because the team asked Freeman to stay away. Which, if it's true, makes them look really petty for then fining him.

I think that they're going to have a real serious issue in the next off season, regardless of the shitshow they become for the rest of the season. I can pretty easily imagine even a mid-first rounder pulling an Elway/Manning move. And making it work.

I read that about Tuesday AM's meeting, but I wasn't clear if that was one they fined him for. If so, that is bad news for them.
