I was going to wait until I had a machine in my hands before posting this and fully realise that this may be a moot point for me personally if for whatever reason I am unable to finish paying the lay-away thing. Whatever, sounds like a good excuse to create a place to discuss just PS3 games, whether they be a 1 or 10 on the scale.

My personal experience with this gaming system is very limited and covers just GTA IV. That one is high on my list and a very reasonable $20 now. Sharp graphics, you get to run from or into the cops with any vehicle you can steal, etc. etc.
The system I would/hopefully will be getting does include Uncharted 3 and 1 year on the Playstation network thing (whatever they call it).

Some that have caught my interest and sounded promising when I read about them briefly in some magazine or online:
    > Gran Turismo V
Last time I played anything in this franchise was on a PS1 back in the navy . I do enjoy these types of games, and this has the standard bargain price of $20 now as well.
    > Fallout
I have talked about this game (1 or 2 I think, I understand that number 3 is out as well) with friends in the past and this ranks on my "definitely need to consider" list from that alone.

I enjoyed GTV a lot. The main complaint most people had is that the audio is not the best. Most of the cars sound pretty close to the same. IMO everything else that is awesome about the game more than makes up for that.

I read the list of the 1000+ cars that were included and was immediately interested. I was specifically curious if the Veyron was in there and saw that it is.

Just remember, a LOT of those cars are very similar to each other. There are like 25 various Mitsubishi Lancers, almost 20 Honda S2000s, and a bunch of Silvias and Skylines that they count as separate cars but are extremely similar. The car list is pretty incredible, but there are some near clones that inflate the list.

But for $20, if you are a car guy or like racing, it is a no-brainer.

What I figured, for that price though I can handle something like 300 or 400 at most "different cars".
How are games like Need For Speed and the like? Those are the type where you are running from the cops/other criminal types correct?

GTV is more of a simulator, fairly realistic and it takes a lot of work to get really fast.

NFS is more of an arcade game. Fun, but totally different and more cartoonish (not the graphics, but the gameplay).

Excellent thread. I don't really do racing games, but I can suggest a few others.

Naughty Dog is good at what they do. I've enjoyed all three Uncharted games, and I'm currently working on The Last Of Us. Uncharted has a heavy Indiana Jones vibe, but more modern. There's similar globetrotting treasure hunting goodness, with a twist of the supernatural in each game. I like that there's a lot of exploration -- it's not all go go go run and gun. Sometimes you get to take in the sights. And then you fight a helicopter from on top of a train.

Red Dead Redemption is awesome. Grand Theft Auto with cowboys. I don't feel like there's any more I can say about that one.

Prototype is an interesting idea, but I feel like they dragged it out a bit too much. It's tons of fun for the first few hours, but gets repetitive.

I had trouble with Heavy Rain. It wasn't even the weird controls -- the plot just seems to drag on. It might pick up later but I put a good couple of hours into it without getting anywhere meaningful. Expect to have to work through it a bit.

Oh yes I saw the posters for that Last of Us when it was first released and almost saved one of them from the cardboard baler just for how it looked.
Something about a father and daughter wandering a post-apocalyptic American landscape and no doubt encountering frequent danger along the way.

Are there any good zombie games set in the actual walking dead universe?

Gran turismo 5 is pretty good. Have to say however, that forza on the xb is much better. Both in graphics, gameplay and less cheese factor. Plus the cars actually have more variety its a shame because I started with gran turismo on the ps1 and it was amazing. I am a huge fan of fallout 3 and fallout new vegas. Love those games. Totally ready for post apocalyptia. That being said, I heard that the franchise was much buggier on the ps3 than the Xbox. Never tried it myself, but the interwebs claims that.

Telltale did The Walking Dead for PS3 (as well as PC and XBox 360). It's a point and click adventure game, which is a format that doesn't see a lot of use these days. It's good, though, and it's got the whole father/daughter thing again to tug at your heartstrings.

That also raises a point; I play a lot of games on PC, and a lot of those are cross-platform. I prefer a mouse and keyboard for shooters so games like Bioshock Infinite, Borderlands 2, etc are all ones I've played on the PC. I can't comment directly on the Playstation experience but I know if the games themselves are any good (and those two are very good, for the record, though Borderlands is only really worth it if you have friends to play with).

I've gone on and on about Mirror's Edge in other threads, so I'll just say this: If you're into first-person action, play it.

I enjoy the FPS games on the PC. The biggest "problem" I have is the one-time remapping of the keys away from the 'AWSD' setup that they think everyone wants, and that is a minor one. Not about to switch the mouse to my right hand just for a game, especially when it wants precise control. My 2009 era dual desktop system is fast by my standards but is scraping the bottom of the minimum specs now for current release games if not below them, so an option like a playstation will work better for me at this point.
Definitely lacking the funds to make the proper upgrade I would like with the desktop, and any soundcard with a breakout box (the most important part as far as I am concerned) will cost me some money as well.

I said 'why not?' and paid it in full today. Biggest problem so far was realising that the disc loads on top of the bloody system and not in front like I was expecting. Also had to make sure it was on proper 24 hour time rather than that silly 12 hour AM/PM business.
Had limited selection at the store and turned down these games:
The Last of Us - too expensive at $60
NBA 2k 2013 - too expensive and more importantly bundled with an utterly useless baseball game

I was hoping for NBA 2k 2012 but that will be easy enough to find online cheaper along with games like Fallout. Bought the XL edition of Gran Turismo V.
The appeal of the wireless controller is obvious to me very quickly but I can handle saving money with the relatively short usb corded one for now.
