What a travesty, why would I waste any money on that? To quote Orson Wells here “Keep Ted Turner and his goddamned Crayolas away from my movies” .

This was the film that was remade in 1996 as The Preacher's Wife

I have never understood the appeal of colourized films.

I may be labelled pedantic, but I won't watch them. One year, Mom tried to make me watch a colourized version of It's a Wonderful Life. I sat in the other room while they watched it. It was too painful.

Up with Orson Welles!

 

I have an especially strong dislike for colourised films, completely butchers the original. Orson made that statement just a few weeks before his death when the possibility of ruining Citizen Kane in that fashion was mentioned. I refuse to watch It's A Wonderful Life that way as well.

Colorized films look so bad. It's like looking at a bad water color.

In other news, I'm re-watching Aliens and Alien 3 in an hour.

 

The problem with colourized film is that when it was originally filmed, it was done so in black and white. As such, the cinematographer lights and shoots it differently than what one would do in colour. I am sure they will eventually perfect the process of colourization where it won't look like bad water colours. That said, the contrast and use of shadows, so useful in black and white, will not only be lost but it will make the colour version murky and/or flat.

 

I have a 2 hour seminar and 1 hour department meeting today. It's nice to have a break in the monotony, but it also fucks with my schedule a bit.

 

Asian chicks are way too much into Bubble Tea.

 

So... hubby came home last night and told me we were going to Clearwater Sheraton's Sand Bay Resort in October for a weekend.

Won't complain about that. I think my gypsy travel bug has finally started to wear off on him

 

Clearwater is beautiful and quiet. Close to Ybor and Tampa.

 

About to do a simulation for mental health class in which we have to go to different rooms in the school and complete various tasks while wearing headphones and listening to voices. To simulate what life is like for people who live with aural hallucinations. This should be interesting. The voices are creepy.

 

i'd like to watch kurosawa's "ran" in black and white.
i want options.

i sent out the translation and the article. within minutes, i finally got confirmation that i can add a pile of copy edits and change the title of the book. 5 months out once i send back the ms. academic publishing--it's fucking glacial.
