    Punk.of.Ages Getting Tilted

Ah, what a sale it has been...

I didn't pick up as many games as normal for these sales, but I think I got some real gems:

CS:GO - I haven't played it yet, but I'm planning to give it a go sometime this week
Castle Crashers - I played this a lot when it came out on XBLA a few years back. I'm excited to have it on PC and get back into it.
Dishonored - I played through a few minutes so far. I like what I see. This game will probably take a good chunk of my time over the next few weeks.
Dust: An Elysian Tail - This is a really solid game. I have put a few hours in so far and it is a ton of fun.
Faster Than Light - This game makes for such a fun way to blow an hour or two.
Organ Trail - Another fun way to blow an hour or two. Really good buy at less than the price of a coffee.

I also finally talked a friend into getting Orcs Must Die! 2, so I'm excited to get some co-op play on that one.

    My summer is complete...

oh i know. i just as a general rule don't go too early for single player games as their experience won't change if time goes by and they seem to drop in price so fast. i save my money for games that drop below 10$ and multiplayer games where it's important to get in before the audience gets stale. also for newer games, ebay codes that activate on steam are a lot cheaper. i got bioshock inf. for 15$ by splitting a code w/ a friend who wanted crysis 3 and bagged blood dragon for free... deals like that are available constantly if you don't want to wait for the price to drop.

i'm very happy w/ my summer sale experience! i bagged dragon's lair for nostalgia @ 5$,system shock 2 for 2 fiddy, fallout 3 goty for 5$, the warframe starter pack because space ninjas, and poker night 2 for the tf2 unlocks and hearing the claptrap/brock samson dialogues.

even after i splurged and uncrated a couple tf2/dota 2 items, i got out for <30 bucks. how'd you all do?

I'm working through The Walking Dead now. I finished the first episode and just started the second. I've got a process running on a remote server that I need to babysit but that doesn't need my active attention, so now's as good a time as any to dive in. Thoughts based on the first episode: holy shit. I can't remember the last time a game made me feel like a complete asshole like that, especially for doing what was as far as I could tell the "right" thing.

This right after Bioshock Infinite may not be the greatest idea ever. We'll see how that goes.

haha cool. i wish i could get my walking dead to work. it won't even start up on my win7 64. i might have to get it on ipad when it drops.

in other news i joined dirtyrig's dota2 guild and played a fun match with him and a couple other people the other night. fun stuff! my favorite thing about dota2 so far is how much their is to learn and absorb; i get breakthroughs sometimes midgame and it's very rewarding.

I am a huge, unapologetic X-Com nerd. As such, the 2012 Enemy Unknown is my current project. Beat the vanilla version? Upgrade:

X-Com: Enemy Unknown (2012) Long War mod - Huge mod that really fleshes out the game experience

The modding scene for the new game is starting to get rolling and it's really exciting.

    ...

Some of you, however, may be unaware of the wide variety of indie X-Com: UFO Defense clones that have popped recently:

Open X-Com - Patches over your existing copy of UFOD, tons of new features

UFO: Alien Invasion - Stand-alone high res UFOD reload project

XenoWar - X-Com App game for your mobile device

    ...

Little in life is more satisfying than blasting a Floater with a heavy cannon.

    Just sayin'.

My trek into The Walking Dead continues. Episode 3 is done. Every time I finish one I need a breather.

I think I'll go cuddle my kitties now.

I did episode 4. Haven't gotten to the fifth and final episode yet. I need to steel myself for it. There's no way this story has a happy ending.

dota 2's been going swimmingly. last week was the big pro event of the year and it had a lot in common with every basketball playoff series i've watched in terms of drama and back and forth excitement. i learned a whole lot about mechanics and strategy watching the pros. never have i felt a game make it so imperative to work together. also, because of the volume of options between heroes to play and items to spend gold on in game, it's very rewarding when you put notions together and implement them successfully. the other day i shot off a slow moving missile that chased down my target over 15 seconds and caught/killed him not 5 ft. from his healing home base. my team went nuts and it was one of the best rushes i've ever got from a game.

So this didn't work last time.
    lets try again...

I've just joined a new region in Sim City on server Oceanic 2
It is called COME PlAY WITH ME ;)
I didn't create this one, i just joined it tonight.
    Sandbox mode is turned on.

Does anyone on the TFP play this game?
It's pretty good. Nothing lame like the Sims (no offence)
When i joined this region the creator gifted me 2,000,000 simoleons
I'll do the same now if someone joins us

Really interesting conference on PC gaming, from the programmers point of view.

Star Citizen, DayZ, and Oculus Rift look pretty much like the future to me.

Arma 3 is out next week - even if you don't like military sims - the Arma Editor feature makes it the best game ever.

I've been pretty stuck on Prison Architect lately. The game is in alpha so it's still kind of buggy and not everything is balanced properly. Still, I'm have a good time with it. The most recent version introduced the idea of prisoners attempting to tunnel out, Great Escape-style. Trouble is, I think they've made it happen a bit too often -- in my prison with ~130 inmates, I generally find 3-4 tunnels per night!

i'm excited about titanfall and wildstar. mechanics make or break games for me and between the wall-running and parkour of titanfall and all the thought going into wildstar mechanics it should be a great 2014.

not to mention wasteland 2, project eternity, and torment tides of numenara sating my nostalgia and writing itches :D

...And Humble Indie Bundle 9 just dropped. Trine 2, Mark of the Ninja, Eets Munchies, Brutal Legend and, should you beat the average, Fez and FTL. All for a price you pick.

I already bought mine -- I've passed up on Brutal Legend a few times and couldn't bring myself to do it again. This does mean I've got a Fez Steam key and an FTL Steam key available, since I already own those two. First one to ask gets them, but just to mix it up I'm going to say you have to pick one of the two.

In other news, Valve just announced SteamOS:

    SteamOS

    Feautres:

    * It will stream games from your Mac or PC installs, so you can play Windows and Mac games on it (provided you already own them and have a PC to stream them from).

    * It will offer at least some video and music streaming. I'd anticipate Netflix, and possibly Pandora.

    * It will incorporate some form of family sharing to allow you to share titles with other family members (probably by incorporating the separately announced Family Sharing feature seen here).

I've played with Big Picture mode. It's an interesting idea but the execution seemed just a little flawed to me. I found it difficult to navigate with an XBox 360 controller, and the Big Picture app caused a noticeable performance hit. SteamOS sounds like a more complete solution, though it will require a dedicated box. Then again, that's probably not a terrible thing.
