I think the ex is taking one of my two cats to go live with her today. While it was my decision to make and I told her she could—partially because he has always felt more like her cat than mine and he also has a penchant for scratching the furniture and shitting on the floor—I'm feeling torn and sad about it now. I think I'm going to miss him more than I had expected to.

I feel ya. My ex had the dogs written into our divorce. I wasn't thrilled and one of the dogs was MY dog, been with me during some really rough times... never left my side. The other dog was +/- my daughter dog but my daughter had enlisted. So I agreed, at that point in life I'd have chosen homeless over continue the relationship. Plus I knew whatever was wrong with our relationship she truly cared for the dogs and even if it meant she would go hungry the dogs would be cared for, well care for. In short she treats animals much better them people. So I agreed and signed off on it. When the time came she moved into a place where she couldn't have any pets. I told "well I'll keep them I promise when you get into a place you can have dogs I'll not try to keep them any longer then you agree. So after a few months of being completely retired I came to the decision I wanted to move to Mexico. She called and told me I couldn't move to Mexico because I had her dogs. We had several heated phone calls over this issue. I finally agreed if I took the dogs with me to Mexico once she had a place she could take them I'd drive them up to her (Putting my dogs who've been treated like kids their whole life in cargo cages for air travel would not be an option.) After a year, maybe 18 months, she called and wanted the dogs. She was living with my daughter and grand kid in NorCal, not too far from SF. So I agreed to drive them up over Christmas and New Years. I drove 4 and a half days solid, 16 and 18hrs a day. My friends here didn't believe I'd actually made it there in the time until I sent them a cell phone pic of me by the G. Gate Bridge. I get to the house which was pretty nice and my daughter came down the stairs with a shocked look on her face- "Why are the dogs here?" "Because you're mom insisted i give them back to her." "Well they can't live here, it's in our lease "no pets." I looked at my ex and she stated "I just wanted to visit them, they're only staying a few days." WTF! I had to get in my truck and go sit at a park and just stare in the distance for an hour or so. I finally decided "shit like that is exactly why she is the ex and not the wife." About a week later I packed them back up in the truck and we returned to Mexico. 8-9K mile round trip and about 6K in cash for gas, motels and food. She has never called about the dogs, or anything else again.

Daughter's friend is coming over to spend the night. Daughter's friend's mom is a religious nut who won't shut the fuck up about discipline and respect. She is bringing 'a movie' over for them to watch that teaches 'good values.' This should be interesting.

  6. Don't know about that, sounds like two señoritas were interested.

Ah, grasshopper there's a difference between interest in a person and interest in their bank account. It's a fact you learn quickly here.

Gillard truly is the reincarnation of Margaret Thatcher. She was so bad for Labour's PR, even Rudd with his charm couldn't win the voters back.

Don't be a fucking idiot this Saturday

    Un-fucking-believable.

There goes the Aussie economy within 3-5 years.

    ...

I need to revise my mid-term plans. Australia has suddenly become much less attractive.

Best of luck with the new government, Lish :p

    I like my patio.

But I wish it had the baller set-up that my buddy in Eugene has, so I could sit by the grill and watch Gameday on ESPN at the same time.

Uh, yeah, that would be awesome. If I pinned stuff like this, I'd pin this for later for when I own my own home and have a spare $15k to spend on the sweetest outdoor kitchen imaginable.

That pic only shows about half of it, it's from the bar facing the house, all done in cool Brazilian wood (can't remember the kind), slate, and granite. It's just as big behind where I was sitting there, with a stone patio, several gas heaters, one of those pebble-gas tables, and some nice furniture. Probably 600 sq ft or more altogether. I'm doubting that type of setup is ever going to be in my budget, so I'll just have to enjoy his once a year when I can. :p

With your climate out there, and the fact that his is mostly covered, he gets about 10 months a year of comfortable use. Far more than I'd ever get here.

Yeah, there's actually a great deal of the year here where it's comfortable to be outside...except for the rain.

His pergola has a semi-transparent roof on it, so as long as the wind isn't blowing hard you can sit under it in comfort and stay dry. It's an awesome set-up.
