Who do you root for?

As the college football season gets underway, I've got to ask--who do you root for?

Personally, I cheer on a few teams.

First and foremost, my alma mater:

(I don't like the new logo. Makes us look like we're the Fighting Nutria.)

I also cheer on the University of Washington Huskies, when they're not playing my Beavers, as I grew up a Husky. This logo was on my favorite childhood sweatshirt:

When they aren't playing the Huskies or the Beavers, I'll also root for the Cougars, as my godparents are passionate Cougs, and like us, they're often the underdog. Cheering on the Cougs was also an easy way to needle my dad growing up, since he's a fervent Husky:

I have an order of importance for the Pac-12, in terms of who I root for. These three teams are at the top of it. I also cheer on the Golden Bears if they're not playing one of my teams, as I have some friends who went to Cal or come from a Cal family. And yes, Borla, Oregon is at the very bottom, even below USC.

    How about you?

Not quite so fearful lately. I was there when Boomer Esiason was QB.

And next year, its out of the ACC and into the fire of the Big Ten.

I would root for George Washington Univ, my grad school, but they dropped football 50 years ago.

    Go Colonials!

I like to route against the Cougars and Vandals because they are local and have poor team colours. Having combined records something like 2-18 any given year (adjust accordingly for sport of choice) also amuses me.
I would attend a Cougar home game decked out in Huskies gear in a heartbeat if I did not have to pay for said items.

I root for a different group of Huskies than you do, but working there is a pretty strong motivation.

  9. My son is a Cougar and my DIL is a Vandal. Sounds backwards, but that's the way it is. The teams play in Pullman this year, but they will likely sit in the Idaho student section. Tickets for Idaho students are cheaper than for WSU students. How can that be?

Idaho has the distinction of have 2 games on the list of Ten Least Anticipated Games on FBSchedules.com Ten Least Anticipated 2013 FBS College Football Games

    Me?

I do "root for" the Ducks and Beavers on the college level, at least as much as you can without actually following them much at all. They are my home teams along with the Blazers on the NBA level; I follow every game there no matter if the team is a potential contender like the early 90's or dead in the water from the start like more recent years.
I definitely consider myself an Oregonian living in Idaho more than an Idaho resident.

  12. My son and DIL have 2 extra tickets for Saturday's big game! $5.00 off student price! Hurry before you miss out!

I'm from Kansas, and not a huge football fan, but here in Lincoln it's hard not to get caught up in Huskermania.
Last Saturday in Chicago, I watched most of the Oklahoma - Texas game. It was nice because one of them HAD TO LOSE!

Boston RedSox (from when I was in the states on vacation (in 2005 I think). I stayed with people in CT and every night they were on TV, so started rooting for them then)

i am not much of a sports fan, really. i find myself vaguely interested by stanford and oregon at the university level.

    the red sox.

i kinda like liverpool. the french national side. barcelona because, well, when they're on they are lovely to watch. this seems to require no moral courage, however.

For sports beyond college, I cheer on the Seattle Seahawks, the Seattle Mariners, the Portland Timbers, and the Portland Trailblazers.

I was a Seattle Supersonics fan for many years until the team was sold/moved to OKC. I'll NEVER cheer for the Thunder. EVER. Instead, I switched my allegiance to the Trailblazers. There were some good years where I got to laugh at the woes of the Blazers (the Jailblazers era). Thankfully, they've cleaned up the team considerably since then.
