This is the first time I've used the bbq since my brothers dog moved in.
The dog has no idea how much I appreciate it laying on its bed and not bothering me.
Score one for the pound puppy.

I've met a handful of sports and Hollywood stars. I can't remember any being downright rude, but most just acted like it was an unavoidable function of their job.

Well the only time I can recall being introduced to a celeb was on a beach south of Cancun. One of the guys in a dive club/shop I freq. manages comedians. He knew my daughter was a fan so he had Jeff Dunham send my her a personal wedding day greeting and gift basket and enough DVD's and T-shirts for everyone at her small Coast Guard station. One day I saw a guy walking toward the restaurant after our morning dive and thought he kind of looked like Tim Allen, a little over weight and with a few day old beard. I knew Robin was his manager and long time friend but had no idea he was around, he was and it was him. There was about 7 of us sitting at a table enjoying a like snack before the afternoon dive. Tim approached and Robin stood up and said "hey hows the palapa treating you? Tim looked around the table and asked, looking directly at me "who's this guy?" complete with a look of "who the fuck are you" on his face. Robin said "this is my dive buddy and friend _________." Tim looked down at the menu and told the waiter to bring him the seafood soup to his palapa and walked off. Robin told me not to take it personally as Tim doesn't like meeting new people sometimes. I can understand... to a point. But he could have been more pleasant about it, say less "dickish." But he obviously knew everyone at the table except me and with his history of partying it's highly likely that he's met a lot of folks who take a photo with him and then post or maybe even try to sell stories of doing lines of coke off hooker asses on the beaches of Mexico.

This is part of what has probably changed for the worse in the last decade or so for celebs. Now basically everyone has a camera phone and some form of social media to broadcast their pics to the world.

I would guess that probably sucks. Even before the whole social media explosion fame surely had a downside. I'd like to have the money but not the fame. Having people interrupt your dinner or just your day to day activities has to suck a little if not a lot.

Beaver football starts in a week! This time next weekend I'll be cooking or baking something to take tailgating. Can't wait. It's like Christmas.

Oh thank you FSM. No more band. And I've received a solemn pinky swear that there will be no goddamned crawfish either.

I should feel guilty or bad about not working on my dissertation or psych reports today... But, I don't. I only get one if these days a year and I want to spend it making red sauce and watching "Happy" on Netflix with a cat on my lap. I love Dan Gilbert. And I'm digging this Hedonic Treadmill concept.

I don't know you but I cannot imagine knowing that I hurt my kid deeply due to my insensitivity, and not in some way expressing regret that I did so.

  13. Aaaaaaand post-thunderstorm it's 88 degrees outside, with a heat index of 99, a dew point of 76, and 67% humidity. I'm having to drink a cup of water an hour just to stay hydrated.

Woo yeah Summer (finally) being here!

Checking in to see if our new nursing courses have been loaded into Sakai. No.
But found some emails from the fundamentals professors directed to the new incoming nursing students. It was weird to think of how far past that I feel now. And how glad I am about that. I am so anxious for school to be done.

About to watch Touch of Evil.
Perhaps the best opening shot ever conceived and created.
The rest of the movie is pretty fucking great, too.

Totally agree. I came home after film class and made my husband watch it.

  20. Played a benefit for an organization raising funds to convert a farm into a substance abuse treatment facility. Second time we've participated and will likely lend a hand next year, too. They pay us in delicious pulled pork bbq. Now, there's a substance I will gladly abuse;)
