It is similar to what the corporate industrialists did back in the gilded age.
Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Ford, JPMorgan (hmm...that last one is at it again, probably leading remotely from the grave)

There was a time, when we broke up the monopolies...even as close as the 80's
But these days, it's anything goes...but now on a global scale, instead of just national.
And this makes it even harder to track things down and control those taking advantage. (over the border leveraging)

But I heard that the G20 agreed to start cooperating across borders, so multi-nationals can't get away with as much.
Trying to make things more consistent.

What the governments are starting to realize is that even though the companies are good investments,
they aren't bringing back to the nations they are using their resources in...including their citizens.

I can recall when the Fed had to go through this with the states.
I wonder how long it will be before the International Groups, get the conglomerates to shape up.

Again, I don't mind businesses making a buck.
But they need to consider the resources they use and the impact they have.

It's a bullet that many of us didn't realize we just dodged, if that makes any sense.

At any rate, he can renounce all he wants; the GOP still has a natural-born socialist in their midst.

So, those 4 year olds who were brought to the US by parents who weren't born in the US and have never known what it is like to live outside of the country should be deported... too bad we can't deport Cruz, but lucky for Canada.

Luckily the immigration bill already passed the senate.

In a poll of Louisiana republicans last week, more blamed Obama (29%) than Bush (28%) for the failed federal response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

Obama was a rookie senator at the time so it must be his fault.

    Simply delusional.

But then again, this is why many get away with bad things...because others aren't aware of the truth.
They are either neglectful or biased...thus they get scammed on by those who distract them.

Principles of a magician. ("look nothing up my sleeve...")

I think this is the case on a grand scale. A mass illusion—nay, mass customized illusions. Personal fatal distractions, wholesale.

Americans would be politically engaged—like actually engaged, not just posting to social media—if it weren't for all the bread and circuses. (Or corn and showbiz, as the case may be.)

Maybe this is the best way to deal with climate change deniers in Congress.

Boehner to step down as Speaker after the 2014 mid-term elections? Thats the buzz.

It might make for a promising fall of this year and a somewhat productive 2014, but looking ahead to 2015. would make the current Congress look like a dream team.

The only issue is who would become the speaker then? Assuming the Democrats can't win back a bunch of seats in 2014 that is...

You can't run for President or Vice President if you have the work of being Speaker I would think. However, it might setup a possible run in 2020 or 2024.

If the House Republicans attempt to shut down the government over the debt ceiling or Obamacare, Democrats will likely pick up a fair number of seats next year and that has the current Republican leadership concerned. Boehner can protect the Republicans against charges of obstructionism over the next year by blocking the actions of his extremists and working with Democrats on passage of extension of debt limit, immigration, etc...then step down on a series of accomplishments.

But it would take a miracle of Republican stupidity for the Democrats to win back the House.

    The times...they are a'changin'...

I'm still reaching for the golden ring...but it's only because now I have nothing to distract me. My time & mind are mine.
But most are trying to juggle a lot...the system is too complex now. The burden is on the consumer, the benefit of the doubt with the corporations.
Most don't have time or mind to focus on getting a leg up...it's mostly about keeping a job, paying the bills, being distracted.

Are they depressed...or are they just being "real"???

It is 1:25 am and Sen. Ted Cruz has been speaking for 11 hours now on the evils of the Affordable Care Act.

He just went off on a tangent about Obama being anti-Christian and something about no atheists in a foxhole.

    I'm going to bed now.

7:00 am and Ted is still going strong.

At some point, he took to reading Green Eggs and Ham because Green Eggs and Ham is just like Obamacare for the American people: "they do not like Obamacare in a box, with a fox, in a house, or with a mouse.

Is he almost done talking to himself?

Out of curiosity, did he speak about alternatives such as a single-payer system that aims to bring down exorbitant (if not ruinous) health care costs?

Wait—probably not. Right-wing extremists don't look for solutions for others, especially not rich and powerful extremists. I mean, why bother, right?

My guess is that despite the outcomes, Ted Cruz will find quality health care he can afford for himself and his family. Is that about right?

  16. By virtue of having been elected to the Senate, Ted will be suckling on to public teat for the rest of his life. No need to shop for health insurance.

Will he get residuals from those "Ted Talks" videos?

So what happens when a part of your population is either unaware of the consequences of their vote
or votes with intent to place disruptive representatives in???

What is the check on that in your government???

You know, I keep getting people telling me that we should get rid of EVERYONE in government.
But who would you replace them with?? There are no guarantees of quality.
We are the ones that voted them in, in the first place.

It's like the boss that said, I don't care what happened...JUST FIX IT!!
Without realizing that they were just as complicit in the problem.

The Founding Fathers were correct in not trusting anyone, including themselves and the public.

We reap what we sow, but unfortunately the American political system is currently overrun with obstructionist ideologues and bloodless pseudo-progressives.

    How does one choose?
