    Tonight: High rep dead body squats, flat dumbbell press, bicep curls and V-ups. The numerous young college girls doing Crossfit stuff late at night keeps me motivated. Kick me back to my early twenties so hitting on them wouldn't be awkward.

    I'm having twisting issues with squats. Trying my best to push even but my left hamstring seems to tweak out. Happens every other workout or so. I've started taking a wider stance and going a little pigeon-toed. Dunno. Need better stability.

    I'm typically fine with my boxer briefs and Under Armour* training shorts. It's when I have to do something lying down that my package is all like, "Hey, I'm this guy's junk! Look at me!"

    Tonight I did kicking drills for the first time in Hapkido class. This was after a Muay Thai class of knee drills.

    For the first time, I did kicks other than Muay Thai-style roundhouse kicks and push kicks. I was doing side kicks, front snap kicks, stretch kicks, Hapkido-style roundhouse kicks, and even variations with front and back cross steps.

    In other words, my hip flexors (and probably my hamstrings) are going to give me shit tomorrow...and likely the next day.

    Are your hamstrings tight? What is your stretching regimen?

    I usually go lighter for a while and work on perfecting my form for a while, then slowly move the weights up. I also do some easy stretches before and between lifts. Real stretching is for afterwards. ( I sometimes don't have the energy for the real stretching... Thus I get tight )

    Still resting up post-Toronto. Probably won't hit the weights again until next week. I'm having some foot pain and my back is jacked up. Yoga and stretching only for the next few days. I'm sure it'll work all the kinks out.

    Woo, lost a couple pounds while Torontoing, and 3% body fat. I'm also down 2 inches off of my waist and hips since my initial measurements.

    I've had issues with my hamstrings since I joined the military. I actually had to get a shot in one because I tore it sprinting. As a guy that sucks at martial arts, I do a lot of stretching and I'm quite flexible in the hamstrings from kicking practice.

    My issue with squats is probably just a "slow down, focus" and "it's going to suck regardless of how you position your feet." I'm good at maintaining proper posture but once I reach thighs parallel the initial push up tends to be a little twisty.

    Perhaps I should try sticking some 5 pound plates under my heels. I've seen guys do that to elevate their heels a little so as help with stability when they're doing deep squats. Dunno. The Intarwebz is full of conflicting information on this.

    You could also use a shoe with a heel on it... Stilettos should be a proper color to match your gym shorts, though

    Sunday was my second day of squats since November of last year. The first day I did 20 reps with 135 lbs. Yesterday I did a couple sets of five with 135, 185, 225, and 275. The weights felt pretty easy, but I'm feeling them today. When somebody tells you that squats use your whole body, you better listen. Ouch.

    Any-who, I am liking the new gym.

    Apparently I'm a lot faster than I gave myself credit for. I used Google Maps on a new route then used it to measure all my other existing ones. Turns out I was short on all of them by significant chunks (20% short on one). I thought I'd been running ~8 min/miles and no faster than 7:15. Turns out that I did this morning's run in 6:25's.

    I just might scare 18:00 in the 5k I'm running in October. Huh.
