What are you obsessing over right now?

    For me, it's ajvar. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajvar

I bought a jar of this red pepper and eggplant spread at Trader Joe's last year, thinking: oh, that looks like something I could break out in case of a party. While I was convalescing over the weekend, I was looking for something to put on Triscuits and fished it out of the cupboard. IT'S SO GOOD. If you've never tried it, please do.

Tip: mix a little mayonnaise into it and use it as a sandwich spread. You'll thank me later.

    Your turn.

That looks awesome. I should try it. I think most of the bigger grocery stores here carry it. It looks familiar. I think it would make a great addition to hummus and the like.

    As for obsessions?

Nothing currently, though in the past there have been a few, and they're likely to resurface:

    • Sauerkraut
    • Dijon mustard
    • Quinoa
    • Almond butter
    • Tahini

I'm probably missing a few, but those ones are pretty high-profile for me.

+1 for quinoa and hummus. Ugh. I'm big on texture and those two are very pleasing.

How about kim chee? I go through kim chee phases every couple of months where nothing will satisfy but hot hot pickled kim chee.

I don't think I've had kimchee (though it's quite possible I have). I haven't really had much Korean food. Though I'm sure I've had a lot of stuff like it in my adventures in Japanese food.

Right now it's melted peanut butter, and a mixture of spicy and yellow mustard. Not at the same time.

For three months now, our local food-bank has been offering jars of soon-to-be-out-of-date, Dickinson's Lemon Curd.
    What a treat. Thank you.

Xiao long bao - pork dumplings that when you bite into them release a gush of soup in addition to the pork filling
Bubur Pulut Hitam - a dessert made with black glutinous rice and coconut cream (warm and soothing)

I go in phases on these two where I have to have them once a week.

    Greek yoghurt and honey
Bagel with cream cheese and jam

These two, again in phases, but daily for breakfast.

Local market has some really tasty carne asada at the butcher counter that I've had about 5 pounds of over the last 2 weeks. Not to mention the fresh, still warm, thick corn tortillas to go with it.

I cannot begin to describe the sheer awesomeness of what you have just posted. I get excited enough about biting into a decent wonton in some nice broth, but that just sounds epic.

Bear Cub, I empathize with those who are overcome with 'wonton desire' :p

snowy, - Red pepper and eggplant spread is a long time favorite of mine. At the moment, I am beginning to come out of a 6 month obsession with potato chips eaten with very cold tomato juice with Worcester Sauce in, in micro sips and nibbles. Taking over the wheel is chocolate with crispy puffed rice in it, so it is slightly aerated and crunchy. I wash it down with two mugs of tea.

Dang .... I just know that next time I am at the shops ... red pepper and eggplant spread. Oh ... and bagels :)

At the moment.. Greek Yogurt or Hummus or Baba Ghanouj, all as breakfast food. That's pretty much all I have for breakfast these days (the latter two with bread, of course).
Although I've always eaten hummus so that's not really new. I used to dislike baba ghanouj for some reason though, and I definitely like it now...

And on another note.. Dark chocolate, 80-90+...

I've been eating lots of Greek yogurt this week. I've been on an antibiotic due to my injury. My two favorite ways to eat it: mixed with blueberries or with a half teaspoonful of jam. My mother-in-law's cherry freezer jam is very good with Greek yogurt.

Heh, just before seeing your post, I had some Greek yogurt for breakfast, and put in some of the last remaining blueberries from our back yard, and added some blueberry jam to top it off (since there weren't enough blueberries).
This yogurt also reminds me of the Icelandic-style yogurt (skyr) that I used to have for breakfast back in Iceland - it was also very high in protein, and firmer that typical yogurt. Similarly, Lebanese labne is also thicker and higher in protein.. All good stuff.
