I also like the fact that Zimmerman is getting a crappy gun back that nobody will touch now and he's going to need to have a book ghostwritten just to keep his head above water for the next decade.

To anybody that thinks he got off Scot free, I'm guessing that his legal bills are pretty deep. Haven't bothered to look it up because I don't give a shit about vigilante shitheads with poopy firearms.

 

I'm not guessing that he's scot free. but he's breathing oxygen and he's not in prison after killing a 17 year old. Sorry if I don't mourn the awkwardness he faces.

I'm tired of the Guilt and Shame and Tragedy cards being played by everybody like this kinda shit doesn't happen. every. goddamn. day. in multiple countries across the globe. I realize that I'm white and like to poke holes in cardboard targets and thus must be evil and racist and likely to do __something negative__, but I couldn't give a fuck less about this whole shit-show of manufactured outrage and canned stereotypes and fear-mongering. It was like the media was actually clamoring for African Americans to riot in the street over this shit. Baiting, even. "If you don't get out there and flip over cop cars and set a convenience store on fire, you're all just tools of the racist system!" Ugh, it's all so violent and ugly and nobody wins and blame game-y.

Everybody wanted a trial and wanted justice. They got six women to sit in a room and play god with this vigilante dipshit and they decided he was in the right. If anybody should be blamed, it should be those morons. And the prosecutor.

Enough of this piddly single body count shit. Let's get back to the Guilt and Shame and Tragedy of Colorado Theater Shooting Sandy Hook, for fuck's sake. God knows those innocent white babies deserve justice.

I take exception to the fact that because I am white that somehow I am not entitled to outrage. It's classic obstructionism. This happened about five miles away from my house. I see facsimiles of this young man every fucking day making their way up to the bus stop. Only thing is, they live here. To look for 'them' here would be inefficient. But, cross the street, that's another story. If you're ok with that, just say so.

Hell, ask Noodle about the Ethiopian hookah bar we drove by when I dropped her off at her hotel yesterday. It's next to the Afghan kabob run by real Afghans and across the street from the German restaurant and the Italian deli. Many parts of the United States are diverse. I don't have an Encyclopedia Britannica on hand to reference the actual statistics, but I'd venture to say that most of the East coast between New York and Miami is pretty much mutt soup with all the colors of the human Crayola crayon box. My neighbors on both sides are African American and have teenage children.

Nobody has gunned anybody down yet. Although if somebody keeps taking up all the reserve parking spots, we're likely to have a fistfight at some point. Seriously. I had to park over a block away last night because someone took a my usual free space.

I'm sorry a tragedy happened five miles away from your house and involved strangers that you will never meet. People of all skin colors are shot, stabbed, beaten and hit by drunk drivers every single day. Spend a year in Afghanistan or Iraq to witness the senselessness of a marketplace car bomb that kills only civilians. I'm not really getting the debate point of this tragedy argument, my friend. You, with your occupation as such, should understand how stupid and senseless people are with others' lives.

I don't know Sanford. I don't know what it's like to live in a town where the media has made a tragedy into a !Tragedy! Deluxe. I realize that the incident disturbs you and how it was totally preventable.

I empathize with those that feel like the whole thing was a huge waste.

 

You don't even address my point. That where it is expected for a young black man to be seen is different from another place right next door. That is not a problem?

My point is that people throw around assumptions based on race, mine, his, ours, that is regardless of crisis. As if crisis is an immutable phenomena slanted against black people by some sort of acceptable social theory. When, really, it just depends on which neighborhood you're in. Zimmerman had a previous history of violence but it was considered by the court to be irrelevant. But Martin's pot smoking...that was essential knowledge for the jury to have privy to. Trayvon Martin is dead and I would have no opportunity to work with him as a nurse because he is dead. I've tried really hard to be pleasant and non-combative. But there comes a point where people listen to reason... or they just spout off whatever ideological nonsense that suits them. For me, it's that this young man is dead with only the last things that he bought from a convenience store in his possession. Sorry if the only thing one can take from that is some internet-acquired 'white guilt' rationale. If you're white and don't feel at least some compunction about this death, then, I don't have much respect for you as a person. That's how I feel. Can't change that.
