  1. Geez, noodle I didn't know it was that bad. I've battled migraines for years but not so much lately. I wish yours would go away, also.

My nephew was in the playoffs with his baseball team last week. They came in 3rd, if I can interpret my sister's rant on Facebook correctly.
Something about blind refs not being able to tell their assholes from a hole in the ground.

If you ask me, blind refs should be able to do that better than sighted ones.

  3. My youngest son played a lot of sports growing up (he's now the head coach for girl's tennis and boy's basketball at a high school). I don't think I enjoyed attending any of his games more than I did baseball. Sitting outside on a nice summer's eve. Chatting with other parents in the stands. So relaxing. I really miss those days. Enjoy them the_jazz and congrats to the team!

It doesn't get this bad all the time. A lot of the times it's just a low-grade tension headache. Most days, I don't treat it.
So, although it's there, it's manageable. You get used to it. There's a spectacular regimen of magnesium, riboflavin, and b6 that keeps it at bay, but I can't take it right now because of my stomach issues. Yay, grad school!

That were done. My 'patient' was two days post-op for an appendectomy, was vomiting, reporting abdominal pain on a scale of 9 out of 10 and had low potassium and no bowel sounds.
And he was yelling at me, lol. They love to fuck with us. Makes it more realistic...and nerve-wracking. I swear, knowing that they are watching you on a camera and listening to everything you say is far more unnerving than walking into an actual patient's room in the hospital.

    But, paralytic ileus. Bingo.
I only forgot to do a few things. I didn't notice that he wasn't wearing an allergy armband and I didn't palpate and percuss his abdomen. But realistically, I have never seen a real nurse palpate and percuss any patient for any reason. And he was already in pain, distended and had no bowel sounds. Pressing and knocking on his abdomen is not going to give me any additional information that is worth adding to his pain. Unofficially, the professor agreed with me.

Glad that's done. I'll just study for next Monday's exam for the rest of the day. Smooth sailing.

Oh, and I forgot to recommend an NG tube when talking to the doc. That's a pretty big one that went over my head...the connection there. So I learned that.

The more I watch the 3rd hour of the TODAY show, the more I fall in love with Jenna Wolfe and Willie Geist.

This sounds like the perfect topic for this thread -
I saw something just now on ESPN that caught my eye - "MLB executive vice president Joe Torre ..."
I even checked with google to make sure it was the same person. Last I knew he was Coach/manager/whatever the hell for the Yankees. When did this change?

and to state the obvious, yes my knowledge of MLB is nearly as low as my generally non-existent interest*. I do know that the Red Sox won the title recently for the first time since 1916 or thereabouts and that the Mariners have gone something like a 30-100 record in recent seasons.

*I o love seeing the bench clearing brawls though, those are great. Those films Cobb and that one with John Goodman about George Herman Ruth were good as well.

Torre left the Yankees in 2007.

He managed the Dodgers for the next three seasons.

He's worked for MLB as an Exec VP for the last 2 1/2 years.

Six years? Last manager I can name for the Dodgers is Tommy Lasorda.

Ran through this test online, the results were about what I expected. I am probably more "Libertarian" if I tried to apply an overall term .

One of our faculty just collapsed from the heat. It was actually quite frightening as this faculty is typically kinda bulletproof.

Now the last one you can name is Joe Torre. ;)

And if you want to get crazy with your baseball knowledge, Don Mattingly (yeah, that Don Mattingly) is the current manager.

It felt particularly hot here today, as well. It's difficult to qualify the heat this year, because, while there is usually a breeze and it doesn't feel like the usual oppressive heat, there is a sense when you first walk outside of intensity in the light. The light is brighter and more intense and when you stand in it directly without any interference, it feels like you are sizzling. That is my impression of the heat this year.

It's been unseasonable cool here this summer. I'll be in Florida for the next two starting Friday so guess I'll be headed north to get the heat. That sounds backwards.

I'm sure it doesn't have anything to do with global climate change because that's a myth.

Meanwhile, here in Oregon, it's been muggy and unpleasant today. It was the kind of day where you're pretty sure it might thunderstorm but instead it just sprinkles a little. At least it didn't reach the 95 degree temp originally called for in the forecast. 85 was hot enough.
