    I love massages.

Thanks to my sister, I went out yesterday morning and received a really good 80-minute massage. The therapist was talented and she really listened to me. Plus, you could tell that she was experienced because she detected where I was having pain without my having to tell her. She was able to completely work out the pain that has been radiating from my neck out to my R shoulder blade and slowly building over the last month. I always appreciate that about a massage therapist. Awareness. To me, that is what separates a good massage from a, not bad, but disappointing one.

I don't think we've ever talked about massages here before. Not that I can recall. How many of my fellow TFP'ers indulge themselves in the luxury of bodywork?

What type of massage do you prefer?
Do you like deep tissue or something more relaxing?
Do you dress down completely nude or do you keep something on?
Do you prefer male or female therapists?
Do you like to give massages?
What was your best massage experience?

I prefer med to deep Swedish massage. I have never been to a therapist trained in shiatsu, but I'd like to try sometime.

I like deep tissue massage, but not too deep. Simple, light relaxation massage is totally forgettable and just puts me to sleep. The only two times I have ever left a massage feeling ripped off and disappointed were both instances of the therapist not listening to what I wanted and kneading my skin around like playdoh for an hour. Blech.

I take everything off. I used to keep underwear on, but any kind of clothing can impede long, continuous, flowing movements and it's probably a hassle for the therapist. So I just take everything off.

I really don't care if my therapist is a male or a female as long as they are good. I've had both.

And I love giving massages. Not quite as much as receiving them. :p But I feel like I've had enough good massages to get a sense of what feels good and how to methodically cover the entire body. I've been told that I'm pretty good. :)

    How about ya'll?

I love massages too. A lot. I wish I could afford regular sessions. I'd go once a week if I could.

Shiatsu. I like the combination of standard massage techniques and acupressure. I haven't had a full session of it though. Only up to 30 minutes. This means I've only had a minimal experience with the stretches and joint manipulations that are a part of the practice.

I find the deep tissue experience relaxing. Even after 20 or 30 minutes, I walk away buzzing and euphoric. I haven't had massage purely for relaxation purposes. I've always gone in with the specific purpose of therapeutic work on certain muscles. One exception, I suppose, is the full Swedish massage session I had. Even then, I appreciated the bodywork aspect of it more than the relaxation aspect.

For the aforementioned Swedish massage, I kept my boxers on. It was my first ever massage, and I was a bit shy. About midway in, I thought how I should have gone with just the towel.

With shiatsu, it's different. They either work over your clothes, a provided gown, and/or a blanket/towel. If you get the blanket/towel treatment, it traps in more heat and can enhance the experience.

At first I thought I'd prefer female therapists, believing that having a strange man's hands all over me would be weird. I was wrong. Now I'm more concerned with adequate treatment. In my Swedish massage, I had a heavyset and rather strong woman work on me. It went well. With Shiatsu, I had a rather slight young man work on me, and he impressed me with his strength. It was a brief but beneficial session.

The best session I had was from this fiftysomething, burly, hairy, Eastern European dude. I'd guess he could crush me with those large and powerful hands of his. He worked me pretty hard, and it was awesome. I was having mid and upper back complaints (bad posture/stress), and he went to town. The session was half an hour. When it was over, I felt like a tenderized piece of meat. Yet he handed me his card and insisted I come back because he wasn't done with me yet, that there was more work to be done. Unforch, I didn't listen to him, although I should have.

I do. I believe I have a sense of what to do in terms of the general techniques on certain muscle groups. I've received good feedback from people. Some have even suggested I get my RMT license. If money and time weren't an issue, I'd seriously consider it. I think I'd enjoy that line of work. I like the idea of providing people with a healing touch.

  3. I've never had a professional massage, but I've had them from girlfriends and other close friends (male and female) over the years, and I've also given my fair share. I enjoy everything about it. I'm a very tactile person, especially when it comes to skin-to-skin contact; there's just something about the touch from another human that just seems to calm me more thoroughly than almost anything else.

There's also something about hearing the low, soft, almost-orgasmic (non-sexual) grunts coming from the recipient that tells me that I'm doing a good job, which I also find soothing.

Clothing is always optional and usually situational to how comfortable the other person is. It's usually fully-clothed in an informal setting, but those times where I've gotten full-body massages while completely unclothed... almost nothing compares.

What was your best massage experience?

I added that question to the OP, thanks, Baraka.

The best massage I ever had was about six months ago from a woman who specializes in sports injuries. Coincidentally, this was another gift massage from my sister that she picked up on groupon. She gave me the most focused and most effective massage I've ever had. It was masterful. Also, her office is literally right across the street from me. I could walk there in less than 10 minutes. Unfortunately, her regular rate is prohibitively expensive.

I also love massages, both giving and receiving.

Now, in a professional context...they are nice to relax, but I like them after a workout.
To relieve the tension in the muscles.
    • What type of massage do you prefer? No specific technique, just attention to detail and tension.
    • Do you like deep tissue or something more relaxing? No deep tissue, just firm and relaxing.
    • Do you dress down completely nude or do you keep something on? I'm typically completely nude, covered by a towel.
    • Do you prefer male or female therapists? I prefer females, their touch is better for me. Men tend to go too hard for my tastes.
    • Do you like to give massages? To be answered below...
    • What was your best massage experience? I've had many enjoyable, with no separation, I just know what's good, what's not.
Now on a personal level, I prefer to give massages.
There is something fascinating about it.
I take my time, feeling with my hands where the tension is...watch for the reaction, listening for the results.
Every part is important...shoulders, neck, back, arms, legs, hands, feet, face, buttocks and so on...
Sometimes there is oil/lotion...sometimes there is no need.

The key is the attention...and the giving.

And BTW...no I haven't had a "rub & tug" professionally, that is not the point of why I get them. It's sincerely about the relaxing of tension.
    Now, personally...that's another matter...another time/place...and another reason. ;)

One thing that was really nice about the massage I received yesterday was that she did my feet once while I was lying on my back, then again when I was lying on my stomach. Two times! Feet are the best.

I guess that could be another question. What part of your body do you find to be the most pleasurable zone for massage?

I love all of it, but my favorite would have to be my feet. Plus I also love it when they take your hand and spread it open and massage your palms. I get covered in goosebumps when they do that. Another favorite area is the backs of my thighs. Oh, I love massage. I would get them every week if I could, too.

  7. That's one of my favorites to receive and to do as well. It feels amazing, and most people I give hand massages to have never had one before, and afterwards they're flabbergasted at how great it is.

Deep, long, hard, and full body.

    Refer to above answer.

Depends on who is doing it. Usually I'll go completely nude, though.

Male. Much more relaxing for me.

Yes. And I'm decent at them, even after my (non-massage related) injuries.

One of my long-term lovers is a professional masseuse. He's absolutely phenomenal. But this last time I visited him in San Francisco, god, that was stellar. Late night/early morning session. In the dark. Free. With healthy snacks afterwards. <3

I never tried a professional massage, they told me to try shiatsu because I suffer of headhaches, that should work.
When I was living with my father I had (and give) massage from my sister for some time after workout, definetly not nude (that should have been awkard). No technique in particular, just deep tissue massage after training, we were both sporty (at the time I was practicing parkour a lot, and she was a 1st division handball player) and so known how should it be, more or less. Morevore she had also being teached by her team masseuses, and then teached to me, is definetly not a professional traning but is still better than nothing...
Now that I'm trying again to be sporty, not having massages is really a pain (in this moment I'm aching in more or less every muscle of my body :p)...
    I like to give massages!

Other than my sis also with my girlfriend, but, expecially if I'm not recovering from training, that turn very rapidly into hanky panky so doesn't really counts.

I love both giving and receiving massages. I prefer female therapists. I almost exclusively prefer no clothing at all, I'm very comfortable that way. Years ago I went once or twice a month to a female therapist who altered her technique to fit the situation. Before the 1st session we talked and filled out some general info paperwork. One of the questions asked if any body parts were off limits, I answered no. I'm glad I did. Her sessions always ended well. I always left rejuvenated and feeling like a million bucks. Hated when she moved....

I like deep tissue, but that's mostly due to my current work situation. I'm high stressed in a sit down job. The best one I ever had was a little tiny girl who was able to find most of my knots and work them out. I had too many to get them all, but she did get quite a few.

    Fully nude

    No M/F preference

I do like giving massages when I'm in the mood. I really liked it with my ex boyfriend. He was extremely ticklish, so he would be able to take some of it on his back and then I'd hit a spot and it would turn into a naked tickle/wrestling fest. :)

I have never had a massage. Not really sure why... guess im scared of it for some reason. My wife has had quite a few she enjoys them as far as i know. Every time she comes home from one she seems more relaxed. I have tried to give her a few i the past but honestly i wanted it to end in sex. Normally it did but im sure that i dont come close to being as good as a professional masouse. I always herd they were expensive. Each time my wife ever went it was normally cause someone gave her a gift card to go.

    I love it
    I don't enjoy deep tissue
    Mostly prefer relaxation massages
    Swedish long strokes
Always prefer female but with strong hands
Once she pointed exactly where I use to have pain often I was amazed
The last one I has in feb was unforgettable (!) I was trying not to be rude but she surprised me ....

I had even slept off in some sessions

I would live to get some training on massage so that I could offer some relaxation to others (girls)

I get a massage about 3-6 times a year depending. I prefer deep tissue but I had a trigger point chair massage once and that was very enjoyable. I get fully nude because as someone else said it allows uninterrupted long strokes and I don't have to worry about oil or whatever on my underwear. My best sessions are with a friend of mine that is a therapist. 80 minutes with her and I'm relaxed but sore after. And yes I prefer women. It's probably a dumb preference but that's just how I am.

  17. I have never been BUT I did win a gift certificate for a free massage. I haven't gone yet, but I really need to schedule.

I believe the masseuse is a woman. I wouldn't mind the sex as long as they knew what they were doing.

    Any advice???

Go at a time when you're either a) under stress, e.g., going through a stressful period at work, or b) suffering some specific complaint (neck/shoulder tightness, lower back ache, etc.). That way, you'll get a solution to a specific problem. There is little more rewarding than a stress-busting full-body massage when you really need it.

Alternatively, go just before you have a day or two off. It would be good to have a relaxed lead-in to some ZS time, y'know?

(Is that what you meant by asking advice? Or were you asking advice on how to get proper sex from a masseuse? I wasn't sure.)

    Just out of my massage
My whole back and shoulder was sore playing with auger digging holes for fence posts and I really wanted some pampering. This time it was way better the trick is I asked for someone experienced.
