Oh yes, The Cow and The Spud are alive and well... and over-run with bengals.
They are ever so much fun to follow.

My favorite musician/filmmaker/toymaker/Renaissance man, Voltaire, IS going to be at Dragon*Con this year. There was speculation and rumors that he wouldn't be, but they just announced it a little bit ago. w00t w00t!

Pick the time you go carefully. The humidity is awful in the summer, as is the heat.

That is swamp country. The White House would be right in the middle of one all too soon after a zombie apocalypse/end of the scenario when the power is gone and people are gone to maintain things how they are now.

    What's it like in October?

I would guess it's better. I went in mid-July as a teenager. Yikes. My brother passed out from heat exhaustion at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

I'm headed back to DC for school for the last time, mid-July... Two years ago, it was a heat index of 117* with 92% humidity. I walked from the White House to the Lincoln Memorial. Wouldn't recommend it. Almost had heat stroke.

One of the reasons why we chose October is because of the heat (the other because of work), but I didn't realise it could get that hot. I don't do well with heat at all. Thanks for the heads up :) I'm going to add climate on my list of things to research before making any definite plans.

It's 18 celcius here today (around 65 F) and that's a perfect temperature for me.

The guy on Talk of the Nation today kept saying Siletz wrong, and it had me so confused at first as to whom they were speaking to. I thought it highly unusual that there would be a tribe I hadn't heard about in Oregon. It's not SIGH-lets, it's sil-LETS.

    Just like it's Wil-lamb-ette, dammit.

  11. I've been to DC in August and I've been in January. Hot as balls in August and cold as a witches titty in a brass bra in January.

    October should be fine.

If only they used these terms as official measurements on the weather network there would no longer be a need for figuring out the conversion between fahrenheit and celcius.

Can't even picture saying Willamette wrong. That might have something to do with spending 22 years of my life in Woodburn though (and my first 6 months in Hubbard when I was a wee little thing from what I understand).

Oh, they do it. The worst is "Will-a-met-tee." Yeah, I've actually heard that one.

The one that kills me is "or-UH-gone", that make me cringe.
I heard Bud Collyer say that as Clark Kent on an a 1940/41 episode of Superman and even now that comes to mind instantly when I think of this subject.
I can understand butchering champoeg though if you are not a local.

I didn't realise that Champoeg State Park was technically in Saint Paul, I thought that it was Newberg as far as Zip code was concerned. It has been more than a few years since I have been out that way though.

Sometimes I think the mods could lock every thread except PA, and no one would care. I'm not sure how I feel about this.

I saw a less than poster size version of this at work on something promoting the game or a guide to it/whatever, and it had me shaking my head in amusement. Seems clear enough what we are supposed to remember according to this.
Her arm looks does look cool, there is probably a good story in there that explains that.

I would like to spend a full day in the office this week, I do not want to get behind again. Being behind on work sucks when you can't pass the buck onto someone else.

    Summer in DC is bitch.

October is Taste of DC along Pennsylvania Ave between White House and Capitol!

My favorite is the shitty late-then-broken Metro service and hurdling the homeless.
