Food What's For Dinner Tonight?

Discussion in 'Tilted Food' started by Magpie, Aug 7, 2011.

  1. I have a crap-ton of eggs to eat in the next few days, so I'm going to make an omelette of some sort. Need more cheese.

We went to our favorite Italian place, in Lincoln Square, so: celery, fennel, and apple salad with champagne vinaigrette; tomato basil bisque; house made cavatelli with petit pois and a Parmesan cream sauce; pomegranate panna cotta with black sea salt and saba; an '08 "Polizetti" Montalpulciano. Fan-fucking-tastic.

Grilled chicken thighs from a local farm. Asparagus on the grill from another local farm. And some bread from a local bakery.

Risotto alla Milanese with Zucchini and Bacon. Spatburgunder red german wine.

A Risotto with Saffron (typical of Milan), made with
-olive oil, onions and zucchini and bacon cooked at mild fire for a couple of minutes until the onions becomes transparent
    then
-put the rice (carnaroli type if you have it, in any case you need a rich consistent rice, without a too hard shell or too hard core) and it for a couple of minutes.
    in the meantime
-put some water and a meat-flavored soup (chicken is the best, otherwise use
    Boillon cube).
    After few minutes
-Put red wine with generosity over the rice..
When the rice is dry again
-Put the soup on the rice, almost covering it.
wait that the soup dries and do it again until the rice is cooked.

At the end, when the rice is almost cooked, turn off the fire, put the saffron inside to get a yellowish color, then put some butter and parmesan cheese (grana padano is the best). Eventually some other wine.

Stop in Beaumont. Eat at Saltgrass Steakhouse, Floyd's Cajun Seafood and Texas Steakhouse, or Hamburger Depot, depending on what you are in the mood for. Report back and let us know. ;)

I managed to eat a third of a package of Honey Nut Cheerios from a gas station in Mauriceville about 20 minutes ago.
And an Honestea. This was an accomplishment for which I am now paying. Yay.

Making Vegan Yum Yum's Italian Rice & Beans, with a few tweaks... I use a whole jar of sundried tomatoes, 'cause they're magically delicious, double the recipe, and triple the spinach. Also, because the grocery store I stopped at didn't have pine nuts, I tried a couple spoonfuls of pesto instead.

My kitchen smells amazing right now. Om nom nom.

Flat iron steak rubbed with kosher salt, black pepper (freshly-ground, of course), cumin, and paprika, grilled to sexy medium. Sliced nice and thin, wrapped in a burrito with a bit of shredded cojack and salsa.

Love sloppy joes. We make vegetarian sloppy joes from a mix from Fantastic Foods.

I like it because they're ready in 10 minutes and they taste really good. TVP has a similar texture to ground beef, but it's healthier.
