Maybe your doc don't make it as plain, but I'd like to see how he could bypass the fact that uncontrolled hypertension leads to one of three variables: heart disease, kidney disease or stroke. At your age that means not only taking a considered interest in your medical care to avoid premature death (ie, your lifestyle and the ideal combo of meds) but in what you can do personally to make the prognosis better for your family. Really, it's your body, either you accept the fullness of it or you don't. This is based on not only your posts on this thread, but others I have not posted on. But this is just a forum, you know? These people are only as real as typewritten space. Meanwhile you have folks, prob. sleeping now, who rely on you. You're young, it's crazy to give in to misconceptions about what lifestyle choices you are able to surrender. Just do it, one step at a time. But there are no shortcuts. You either accept a life without smokes and weight gain or you don't. That's really what it comes down to.

I don't mean to sound insensitive, but there's a time for gentle persuasion and a time for brutal facts. I think your situation sounds dire and you don't have a lot of options. You need to take it seriously.

Fairly certain that repeatedly listening to Bieber/<insert current poor quality boy band or "singer" here> will lower intelligence though. There is mountains of evidence to back that one up.
