Bombs went off in Boston

Discussion in 'General Discussions' started by Borla, Apr 15, 2013.

  1. We've been lucky in the US to not experience random bombings like chinese crested talks about. I have a friend whose sister moved to Israel. He would tell me her stories of being near pizza restaurants or out door venues when a small bomb went off. I often wondered when that would eventually begin happening here. I thought after 9-11 we would see it, fortunately not. Christmas time in shopping malls would seem to be a prime target and time.

Does anyone really think these bombings weaken the support for the ideology that they are attacking? I am so sick of violence.

at this point, it isn't yet clear that this was a political action at all, is it?

  3. True, however since multiple bombs were used this seems to me to be more than just a lone wolf who went off the deep end.

Time will tell, soon I hope

  4. My son left his bag on a railway platform, and when he went back for it there were police there - you start to assume, you see, that a bag left behind may well have a bomb in it. As Craven Morehead said, Christmas time was a time to be extra alert. Its the sort of time that murdering and maiming gets an unbeatable press coverage of 'human interest' stories - pics of kids with no parents any more, or grieving childless parents. Pictures of a shoe with blood in it - you have all seen the sort of thing.
A hotel where I worked sometimes got a call to the bar one night with a bomb threat - staff evacuated the bar and went home - manager found out about it the next day when the police called round. He and all the residents had been left undisturbed - its a Holiday Inn now I think.
Many bars had instructions next to the phone 'What to do in the event of a bomb threat' - they included asking the caller for their name address and telephone number!

Up really early this morning for clinical and have been listening to things unfold. Lot of unanswered questions. Sounds like Cambridge and the surrounding neighborhoods are being totally shut down.

  6. Surreal. Hoping it ends soon.

  7. Seems its one down - with injuries like an explosive device went off and he was shot (I do have a bit of an evil streak, and think it would be a waste of anaethsetic to use any)- and one to go.
If its the right guys, then you got them quite quickly -
    Boston suspect killed in shoot-out - FT.com
Whats the average tariff for killing three people in the Boston area and injuring many others?

  8. even if it wasnt the right guys, no one should have the right to run around shooting and throwing grenades at police.

ive read in a few places now that they are of chechen origin. im not sure how true that statement is though

  9. How the feck do they get hold of grenades? Did they make their own type of thing?
We passed in the night sort of thing Lish - see he listed career and money as his personal goal - didnt mention murdering and maiming though.

chinese crested - it really isn't difficult to get weapons. Ignoring the minefield discussion on assault rifles, the black market and hundreds (thousands?) of arms dealers make it easier to obtain these types of things easier than it is to obtain a house these days. Thankfully they don't seem to be backed by anyone and are short on cash. If they were backed then we would most likely have seen C4 used in the bombings with a "better" planting and they would have had a meticulous exit strategy.

Everyone is still reporting they are from Chechnya but we all know details are going to be muddled at this point.

I don't know that I've ever seen the type of things like this unfolding in the US. It's almost like a martial law scenario.

One thing is certain, don't fuck with Boston!

  12. considering that the US was backing the chechen rebels and Aslan mashkhadov's boys up until the moscow theatre hostage taking scene, i think this is going to be super interesting how the US manages the international terrorism card with Russia on the scene. No doubt russia will try and justify (and most likely re-intensify) its 2 drawn out wars against the chechen rebels as a war against terrorists.

Without question, the wahhabi card will be dealt. Chechen=wahhabi jihadist=Osama=AlQaeda. Sadly, i cant wait.

Glory's Sun i agree. Had these guys been organised, they'd have been in Chechnya, Georgia or Dagestan by now. Small-timers by the looks of things. But it nothing Cuck norris couldnt handle on his own.

I wish I could have another media blackout time but I'll be with my parents this weekend making it next to impossible.

madness. boston is under de facto martial law.
as a matter of inconvenience but no more than that, i think my mother is sitting somewhere on a train prevented from reaching boston from the north.

it looks like a bonnie and clyde kinda situation---once the photos were released i imagine the idea was to go out in a blaze of glory.

no idea yet really of motive.
there's a TON of bullshit circulating.

    madness.

edit: as it turned out, she went to dunkin donuts for coffee.

I was hoping to hear from you and get a "local" POV that isn't tainted by mass media sensationalism. Thanks :)

    Police scanner link.

Says someone is down and has a device on them. Tactical team and SWAT coming in now, they are backing off the media.

They have somebody (sounds like the remaining suspect) in cuffs. Waiting on EOD to come check him out before letting him move.

It's not the suspect they were originally looking for (the younger brother), it is someone else. They say it is someone else who is wearing a vest and appears to have something in their hand that they think is a device or trigger. Sounds like they are afraid the vest is an explosive suicide vest or something.

    The feed is pretty incredible.

Either this is someone connected to the two original suspects or it is the largest false alarm ever.

The feed says the guy is about 60yrs old. They are driving an armored truck up next to him to block the potential blast if he sets off the suicide vest they think he has. They have backed the media off 1000' away. That feed is spelling out step by step what law enforcement is doing. Interesting stuff.

I just don't want it to be some Trayvon Martin guy walking down the street with a soda and skittles.

That's what I'm wondering. I still have no clue what made them zero in on this guy other than they think he has an explosive vest on. I hope it's not just some big puffy vest and he was clueless that he wasn't supposed to be on the street this morning or something.

at least they aren't doing full press, trigger happy like they did with Christopher Dorner. Again, hoping that this is just some guy having no clue wondering why traffic is light to non-existent.

They just said he "definitely" has a device in his hand.

For all we know that could be a cell phone though.
