Food What's For Dinner Tonight?

I was craving cornbread, so I made some. Then I thought I needed some soup beans and fried taters.

The soup beans didn't taste exactly like my mamma's because I didn't cook it with salt pork. They were good, but they definitely need something...not pork based.

Cooked a steak to the proper nice pink interior. A tiny bit overdone perhaps but better than well-done - fastest to ruin a steak next to burning it.
"Cooked" some mushrooms with garlic and butter with the steak and added a microwaved potato.

The wife is having a 'girls night out' with two of her friends. I'm having a bone-in ribeye and baked potato. Shocker, I know.

Red snapper and prawns in an awesome home-made marinara sauce.

SO impressed me beyond any measure tonight.

Deer steak. Trying to figure out if I want to light the grill or just do it in a cast iron skillet.

Carryout from Shapiro's deli, an Indianapolis landmark and all-around treat. Reuben, German potato salad, borscht. A piece of carrot cake that weighed around seven pounds.

I am at this dive bar/BBQ place in Louisville. It's called 'hammerheads'. Look it up on Yelp. Looks to be pure awesomeness.

I'm starting with a couple smoked sliders, one duck and one brisket.

I am at the end of the bar by the kitchen door and the food walking by looks insane.

    I'm making...
    • Mixed spring salad with fresh mushrooms and roma tomatoes
    • Roast chicken with spices.
    • Cooked red potatoes with butter
    • Steamed baby carrots

I think tomorrow I may do chicken livers...mmm.

I made what I'm calling a "New World Bowl." All of the ingredients in it are from the Americas. Sweet potato, black beans, corn, tomatoes, and quinoa.

Good lord, man! Louisville is only 3 hours away, maybe 4 or so with the construction at the Indiana state line. What am I doing sitting here?!?

This was place was legit. One of the best dives I've been to in a LONG time. And I don't throw around that praise lightly.
