I've disengaged from EVE a little bit, finally. I'm still playing but not investing quite as much time in it. I have managed to nearly double my net worth since I started playing the trading game, so that's cool. It's nice to be able to say I've made 300 million in the last few weeks, just too bad that it's all imaginary.

I'm thinking of spending some quality time with my PS3 this week. I've had Uncharted 3 sitting on my shelf unloved since Christmas.

In other news, I've been following the sad, sorry saga of Simcity.

First, players were unable to play the game they bought. Then EA/Maxis disabled key features of the game to improve performance. Now players still couldn't play, and the few who were lucky or persistent enough to get in got a hamstrung experience. Now it turns out that not only is the game still experiencing server troubles, but the pathfinding AI (which is key to virtually every aspect of gameplay) is completely, utterly broken. Check it:

Traffic "AI"... This is why services and traffic are broken! - Answer HQ

I should feel vindicated. I don't. I just feel sad. This was a great franchise with a relatively small but fiercely loyal fanbase. I suspect this may be the end of Simcity. I wonder how Maxis will fare. I suppose as a studio they're relatively safe so long as the cash cow that is The Sims continues to bear fruit.

Started playing Aliens vs. Predators 2 again today.
Did a fresh game as the alien beginning as a facehugger one day before the incident in the storyline. You are the incident as the alien, and have to deal with the aftermath playing as a marine. The game is creepier than Doom 3 in some respects and does a great job building tension, especially when you are playing as a human.
And yes 2001 is still "current" for most of the few games that I do play. My latest is GTA IV from 2008 and that is definitely not the most stable game out there on the PC, it needs a patch just to load in the first place.

The ARMA series always seemed to be so promsing but I always left feeling a bit disappointed. Hopefully they get it right in this one. Love me some realistic shooters.

FTL is fantastic, but frustrating. Tip: get the idea out of your head that your goal is to win. You might win, or you might not. Your goal is just to do as well as possible. If you let losing slow you down you're going to lose interest in the game very quickly.

It really is quite sad. The more I read about it the worse it gets.

New Simcity Fact of the Day:

Power, water and sewage are governed by the same agent-based system that controls citizens. The system actually sort of makes sense for utilities, if you go with the assumption that every road comes with appropriate buried pipes, cables, etc. The real trick is that because utilities are governed by the agent system, they are subject to the same limitations as your sim citizens. In other words, your sewage in it's underground pipes can get stuck in traffic.

    Yup.

I just played Dear Esther. It was the most haunting game experience I've had since playing the original Myst in the early nineties (though I didn't play any of the sequels). On top of that, Dear Esther is visually stunning (a few parts blew my mind) and has a great soundtrack. Not bad for $5 (Steam sale) and a couple of hours.

Been playing Tomb Raider on the 360. So far a really great game, reminds me alot of Drakes but that is not a bad thing.

Or you resort to cloning the Continue log--a crude save system--so you can jump sectors without feeling like you just wasted an hour of your life only to not get the necessary upgrades before you run into the Big Orange Bitch.

    ...

I'm currently playing Retro City Rampage and really enjoying all the 8-bit pop culture action. If you were born in the '80s, you need to own this gem.

I'm still thinking about this game. A game hasn't resonated with me like this since Mirror's Edge. Why do I like these offbeat games? I need more of them!

Oh, and so this pops up on my radar: Everybody's Gone to the Rapture.

It's basically the spiritual successor to Dear Esther: more interaction, more characters, bigger world. During the apocalypse.

Are you kidding me? I'm going to hit this so fucking hard.
