Annoying Commercials

I suppose I could just say, "all of them," but that wouldn't make for a very interesting thread, now, would it?

So. I really can't stand the McDonald's Fish McBites radio commercial. I wasn't aware that there was also a television commercial (of course there was, Cinn, jeez.)



Eden has made the observation that, part of the reason I hate it so much is that little "fishy fishaaaaaay" tune gets stuck in my head, which is what it's supposed to do.

I get that. I do. Except I don't eat fish, and I usually don't eat McDonald's at all, so the marketing is completely lost on me, and I'm just stuck with this stupid little earworm, and then I write ridiculous run-on sentences.



What commercials completely grate on YOUR nerves?

 

Awful '90s language, ahoy!

 

Purple stuff! Radical.

 

"It's got healthy junk, too." "Who cares?"

Indeed.

 

McDonald's serves food? As in something people are actually supposed to eat? When did this start?

On the subject of commercials, I can start singing along with or reciting more radio adverts from years past than television counterparts.
"C-A-M-E-L-S" The campaign during the war where they gave half a million packs to servicemen overseas in honor of the "Yank of the Week"
"LSMFT"
Bill Conrad touting Cigs on Gunsmoke
Harlow Wilcox pushing Johnson's Glowcoat and Johnson's Carnu on Fibber McGee & Molly, and of course Autolite sparkplugs on Suspense.
Harlow touting the "Stayfull battery" that only needs water added twice a year.
But I digress I actually like hearing those.
Most of the recent commercials are incredibly stupid in my opinion. Effective ones that do not grate like sandpaper such as Wendy's "Where's the Beef?" are few and far between these days.

 

Another radio commercial. The service itself is pretty cool (free upper-tier service for military families), but the commercial is overplayed. Every time it comes on, Lordeden and I yell, "Damn it, Bobby!"

 

There is this jewelry store around here that puts ten times the amount of ads on the radio then they should. They are super annoying. I've stopped listening to the radio around here for that reason.

The baby E-Trade ones are annoying too. I could think of a lot more I'm sure.

 

Is it a local family store? God, I hate those. They have the whole "our 19 daughters each say a word" thing. There's one of those in the DC area and it totally makes me think they just had more daughters so they could run longer advertisements.

AT&T's latest round of commercial with child focus groups. I generally don't like child commercials, when we're talking about products that aren't specifically aimed at children. I don't think they're cute, just annoying.

 

All of them.

 

Oh man that fish McBites commercial is killing me. The worst is the stupid "Fishy Fishay" jingle gets stuck in my head. I hate seafood and I don't care much for McDonalds so this is a terrible commercial for me. Also the Viagra commercials need to stop they are kind of creepy.

I detest the boner pill commercials.

 

Why? Because that all-natural tent you pitched back in the '60s hasn't gone down yet?

 

I still get that damn jingle stuck in my head every now and then.

 

Yeah, something like that.

I can't stand the pseudo John Lee Hooker sound bed while men are doing masculine deeds and the announcer talks in innuendo about the one masculine deed they can't do. Or, the bad acting couples that are in the midst of normal everyday activities as their eyes meet and the moment 'arises' or doesn't arise as the case may be. Both commercials are so hokey.

The reality is...
"hey, I've just taken (insert 'hard drug' of your choice), get your ass ready because I'm going to pound you like Plan9 would on a Saturday night."

Now that gets to the point.
